Q:I have a vaction home and I shut all the power for months how long will the 10 year battery last with no electrical power?
by|Sep 9, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello. It won't. The battery is just an emergency backup for the alarm and the alarm needs to be kept in a location that stays between 40 and 100 degrees. You may need to get alarms with replaceable batteries and take the alarms down and take them with you when you leave the house for months at a time.

Q:My triple threat Kidde alarms ring is not steady green in either daylight or dark surroundings. I do see a small green light that flashes now and then. And I can?t get it to ping although the app shows all the readings including tvoc. So confused!

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Try using the flashlight feature of your cellphone or an actual flashlight straight onto the face of the alarm for a full 120 seconds. If the alarm is getting AC power, the green ring should come on solid. If it doesn't then that is an indication that the alarm is just running on battery only and not getting AC power and you will want to make sure the alarm is plugged and that none of the wires have come out of the plug or the wire caps in the electrical box. If you still are not getting a solid green ring, have this alarm trade places with another alarm that is getting a solid green ring and see if the problem follows the alarm or the location. If every alarm plugged into this location refuses to get a solid green ring even with a flashlight held up to it for 2 minutes then there is a wiring issue in this location. If this alarm won't get a solid green ring where another alarm will, even when a flashlight is held up to it, then it is an issue with the alarm and you will want to call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm in hand. If none of the alarms on the circuit get a solid green ring even with a flashlight held up to them then there is an issue with the AC power on the circuit and you will want to check to make sure the circuit breaker is on and get an electrician to check the wiring of the circuit.

Q:Does this model have flashing light as well as an alarm?
      by|Jul 6, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hello. It has a Green LED ring that is on constantly when the alarm is getting AC power and in a brightly lit area or the green LED ring will blink every 60 seconds if it is just running on battery and will only blink on one small part of the ring every 60 second if it is in a dimly lit or dark area. If the alarm goes off and sets off the other alarms, the green LED will flash every second. However, it is not a bright exit/hallway light nor a strobe light rated for the hearing impaired.

        Answer This Question

A:  I bought a smoke detector instead of the smoke detector & CO detector so I'm not aware of hiding model numbers.

        by|Aug 6, 2020

A:  Hello. 21027537 is Home Depot's part number they use when they order the alarms from us. Some distributors use part numbers and some distributors use model numbers. If you have the part number, you can go to the Kidde website and under search put the part number and the model will show up.

A:  I think they just want to distinguish smoke detectors sold at Home Depot and other places?

You'll probably not see this until it's too late..
These were selected and installed by a local electrician, reputable electrical company, and we didn't care because smoke detectors work and we HAD no brand loyalty. Over the past year of having these... We have had CONSTANT issues with false alarms... electrician replaces individual units... But this week will be one year of having these installed... 2 are dead awaiting replacement and 3 have already been replaced, the fire department has been here twice to assist with trying to discover the issue (the problem units are best placed, consistently) and we've lost half a dozen nights sleep over OUR FIRST 12 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP OF THIS DETECTOR (12 detectors, actually). They're so bad I actually took the time to come to this website and write this review, one went off at 2am last night (makes them all go off)... And I'm to the point where I don't check the house for fire, I grab the step ladder, yank it down and smash the battery seal on the back of the problem unit. Read that again. I'll be calling the electrician to try and convince them to buy units with another company. I would rate this ZERO stars... But they made me choose 1 star.

Response from Kidde Product SupportAug 23, 2022
Hello. When these alarms were installed, was any renovations done or anything that might have brought up any dust or debris? False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. Try cleaning out the alarms regularly. If that doesn't resolve the issue, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and get this resolved for you.

              Don’t deal with this company
We purchased these supposed 10 year units so we wouldn’t need to climb up and change the batteries each year. One of the units failed after just 1 1/2 years. The first call to the company and we were told to blow out the unit. We followed their instructions. The next day after climbing up to the unit 2 more times it failed again. After another call to the company we were promised a replacement unit. To actually get the unit we needed to make repeated calls to the company and it still took over a month for them to send it to us. The whole process was too much work for a unit that was promised to last 10 years and the customer service was terrible.

                Too much false alarms
The P4010ACS have been problematic for me, they keep generating false alarm, especially in the middle of the night. On the other hand, the PI2010 I have are solid and don't generate false alarms. The difference could not be more striking. I did not buy them, those were sent to me as a replacement for the 2070-VASR I bought (another fiasco). They have been sitting in a cabinet, and I plan to buy some PI2010 to replace hem.

Hello. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of one of the alarms and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. False alarms
I am switching back to individual alarms. Hardwired is horrible! These go off at all hours. My son actually said, "Maybe they know it's 2am. Time to go off!" With all of them sounding it is exhausting to find the one that initiated it. We cleaned them regularly, and tested them. We are now replacing all of them with not hard wired units. Hoping to sleep at night without the fear of all of them sounding at 2am.

                        Too many false alarms
We have had nothing but trouble with all these units. Over the 6 months we've had them, Kidde has replaced 3 units due to different malfunctions. Now the replacements are malfunctioning. Constant false alarms, sometimes the units do not stop and need to be disconnected. We clean them regularly, they were professionally installed and are in optimal locations.

                          perpetual false alarms
We have had these in our house for over two years and they are just terrible. They go off in the middle of the night for no reason incessantly. We have cleaned them, reset them etc and they continue to be nothing but a bother. Have to replace all of them in my house.
