A: Thank you for your inquiry. When using 2x material, you will be using a 2-1/2" screw.

A: The K5 is larger and meant for bigger pieces of wood and it also has a built in clamp and dust cover. The K4 is moreso for DIYers and smaller. Both are great.
A: Thanks for the questions. The Kreg K4 will work with your standard 2x4 that is 1 1/2" thick.
A: Yep! I’ve used it on 2x4s plenty of times.
A: It will. I have used this many times with 2x4s and they are solid joins.
A: Given the depth settings and clamp depth it will certainly create pocket holes in 2x4 lumber.
A: Yes, it comes out and you could clamp the drill guide to your work piece.
A: Exactly, its all in the booklet identifies wood thickness etc.
A: Yes, it is removable and can be used without the base. I’d recommend going to Kreg website and watch videos, i found them very helpful.
A: Not sure if you can use it without the base, but I’ve never had the need. Using the system has always been easier. As for the guides, there are locks and guides for screw length and wood thickness.
A: The drill guide will come out of the unit, but and you could clamp it to a piece of wood - it doesn't have positive stops like the units that are specifically designed for this task so I never used it in this manor. Removing the guide does make cleaning the whole unit easier.
