I installed this lock all on my own and am very proud of that. The installation was super easy, but took some time because I tried to rush it and glazed one or two simple steps. I paired it with my smarthub and now am able to control it with our Alexa and the app on my phone. Now we never have to worry about accidentally locking ourselves out or hanging onto a key while out for a bike ride. I also like how the app keeps track of which code was used and the time it was used. Best purchase this year

These locks are so great!! I love the fact that you don't have to carry keys around to get into your home! This is the best invention ever. The deadbolt lock works perfectly. You can just punch in the code when you get to the door and it opens seamlessly! There is a key that you can use if the battery was to die, so it can either be kept under a mat or in your car, as a back up!! Also, the #'s only light up when you touch the keypad, so no one can even tell there's a code to open your door!

This review is for the Kwikset Smartcode 916 Z-Wave electronic door lock. I had been looking for a keypad doorlock to be utilized on the walk though side door into our home as that is the most used entry that we use. I looked at several makes and models until I found the known brand Kwikset, model Smartcode #916, that I obtained from Spectrum Brands HHI, a USA company. I love the look of this keypad entry. Sleek, no exterior keypad keys for Arizona sand to enter, it's all glass sealed with a covered sensitive key pad. Installation was straight forward. Anyone with some experience at home repair and maintenance will have no problem in installing it. Instructions are well written and diagrammed. The keypad is very sensitive to the touch and once you tap in your 4-8 numbers, the deadbolt retracts and you have entry. To lock the door once you close it, you just tap the padlock icon on the keypad and it throws the deadbolt. This specific lock comes with 2 keys but it may also keyed to an existing door key you have keyed for your entire home. A nice option for those who wants less keys. This Kwikset lock "has" to be connected to a home automation system device, otherwise known as a controller, if you want to control it remotely. A simple WiFi connection app will not work to provide control of this lock from your smart phone. A controller is required. If you want to control this lock with your smart phone and you don't have a home security controller, they price out at around $70.00. Though these types of automatic locks don't really offer any more security over a standard manual dead bolt, they do offer a lot more convenience, which I Really like. Kwikset has been around since 1946 in this country and are a well known manufacturer of residential and commercial locals. This lock is exceptionally well made, it's build like a brick, has excellent features and I would recommended it to anyone looking to simplify their lives and put away the key! Good Job Kwikset.

I am continually look to add to the Z-Wave collection that I already have at home. It is a great technology for lights and have my front door deadbolt on it, seems like a no brainer. I already use Kwikset keys, so taking the keys I have and changing this lock to fit them was really easy. The Kwikset Smartkey technology makes it so, allowing you to take any Kwikset key and use it in this lock. Again, the key is for backup. The really great part about this is the digital code feature. I like it for being able to have different codes for other people in case they need to come in. Setting the code or unlocking/locking from anywhere in the world, with the phone app, makes for a secure house. Also, getting alerted when it is unlocked or locked is great. Installation is very easy, taking only about 15min if you are replacing an already existing deadbolt. The only thing I don't like is that on the inside it is a turn lock and not a key. My front door is a nine light door and somebody could potentially break a window and turn the deadbolt to open the door. Other than that, it is great.

Brilliant electronic deadbolt. I have been slowly working on automating my homes. At first, it was the light bulbs - controlled by a phone. Then the garage door opener, next, a camera with audio, then the door bell and finally the refrigerator. So what next? A deadbolt for my condo! I did some research on the different types of electronic deadbolts. Here's what I found. 1. Electronic touch pad with no connectivity 2. Connectivity without a touch pad 3. Touch pad with connectivity that needs a controller - like Z Wave, etc 4. Touch pad with connectivity with and without a controller. 5. Add a fingerprint reader to above. I didn't want just a touch pad, so I didn't go with #1. I also wanted a touch pad - not just connectivity, so no on #2. I didn't want the system to become obsolete, so it must be compatible with multiple hubs #3. I would love to have a wi-fi or bluetooth compatible unit, which would be #4, however I picked #3 Installation is pretty simple. Remove the old deadbolt and install the new one - however there is a twist. I highly recommend the instructions are followed! I'll repeat that, because it is so important - follow the instructions! I did it without a helper - can be done without concern, except make sure the parts don't fall from the door as you're looking for the hardware or screws. When re-keying, make sure you remove the battery. The deadbolt can be installed on a right or left hand door - the unit determines what type of door you have. I recommend removing the screw that holds the interior battery access closed. This will allow you to change the batteries without removing the interior cover. I manually programmed the code numbers in vs using the hub (not included). At the condo, we don't have a hub - at least not right now. Access to the back under the cover is necessary, so I programmed the numbers in before installing the cover. Worked perfectly on the first try! I programmed a total of 5 numbers in. Operation: To unlock the door with a key - works like a normal deadbolt. To change keys, use the smart key tool. To use the touch secreen, wave your hand over the screen. Two random numbers pop up - touch both. Then enter one of the stored codes. Voila, the deadbolt unlocks! Aesthetics: Our new electronic deadbolt looks great. The finish is a nice iron black and it looks substantial, without overpowering. The touch screen is dark, but when it lights up, the numbers are easy to read - nice white light. Overall, it's a really wall made, easy to install deadbolt kit with the added benefit or having an electronic pad for entry. I can give the code to people who I want to allow entry and the cool thing is that I can remove the code afterward, so they can't get back in the house. This is a well built, great looking electronic dead bolt with hub connectivity. I highly recommend it.

I have installed many door dead bolts. With Z-Wave and without. This was by far the easiest to install in the door as well as add to my smart home. Style is very fancy as well as hi tech. Installation took me around 5 mins from start to end including the adding onto my smarthome. Just follow the directions step by step. Make sure the deadbolt is in the locked position. Also be sure to adjust the width of the deadbolt when you put it in the door.

This lock is just about as easy to install as a regular deadbolt. The issue to pay attention to is that the deadbolt moves in and out of the frame easily. The batteries on this lock should last over a year but if the lock has to work extra hard to move the bolt I am sure battery life will decrease. I like the looks of this lock. It is sleek and modern looking. The operation of the lock is easy and straight forward. You touch the panel to wake it up and then merely enter your code. This is a generic z-wave lock so you need a hub to make it work. It should work with any hub and also works with the home connect app. I used my wink hub and setup was easy and the lock connected on the first try. Different hubs will allow different features but entering codes is very easy either through apps or the lock itself.

Installation was a breeze. This unit has a capacitive touchscreen which is blacked out until activated with a touch from your hand, then the LED keypad lights up for easy viewing in the night time, something my old electronic dead bolt did not have. Having a touchscreen also prevents the keypad from showing wear over the years on the numbers that have been pressed thousands of times. It allows you to set 30 user codes between 4 and 8 digits, plus a master code feature for added security. This allows you to give a temporary access code to a friend, roommate, or worker that can be deleted when their time is up and you don’t want them to be able to enter your house. The key lock features Kwikset’s (KW1) keyway SmartKey security with re-key technology that allows you to re-key your lock by yourself in seconds. No locksmith required! It comes with 2 keys. The deadbolt can be locked or unlocked with the keys just like an ordinary deadbolt, or you can use the LED keypad from the outside. While they say it is “1 touch locking” you first have to touch the keypad to light up the LED digits, then hit the lock button. The inside locks and unlocks by turning a lever 90 degrees like an ordinary deadbolt. The 4 dip switch settings allow the following options: 1. Door status indicator On or Off, light flashes amber when locked, green when unlocked, 2. Enable or disable Automatically locks the door 30 seconds after unlocking, 3. Beep sound On or Off when number is pressed, 4. SecureScreen feature. Display a randomly scrambled set of numbers that must be pressed first before you enter your code. This places finger prints on all the numbers so no wear pattern will display. It uses 4 AA batteries (Included) that are in a slide out tray. You can select if you want this feature or not by removing a screw to enable the slide out tray. This makes it easier to replace batteries without having to unscrew the metal cover, Or more secure to prevent tampering. This unit is also Z-Wave Plus compatible. This allows the lock to wirelessly communicate with other devices in your home like a security system that supports Z-Wave, or a web enabled device so you can check your deadbolt status from your cell phone, lock or unlock it remotely, and even receive notifications when the deadbolt is locked or unlocked. This all depends on what security or Smart Home system you have installed.

This is a personal review of the Kwikset Smart Code 916. First off this is a great touchscreen electronic deadbolt set that easily opens your door with a personal preset code from four to eight digits. This specific electronic deadbolt set, sports quality and function, which is desired from an automated deadbolt set. It features SecureScreen technology to prevent smudge attacks. This works by popping up two random numbers on the screen first and then letting you enter your personal code. Since the first two pop up digits are random, you’ll be using all the digits, so no one can see any unused numbers on keypad, an excellent feature. This set features one-touch locking, no need to enter a code to lock. This set also features a user enabled automatic door lock after thirty seconds, very nice feature. The touchscreen is bright and gives audible beep when pressing buttons. User can easily program up to thirty different access codes for family and guests. Ease of installation was easily accomplished with everything needed in the box. The deadbolt installs easily within minutes with just a screwdriver! No hard wiring needed. This fixture accommodates the most common standard doors thickness (1 3/8” - 2”) and the common hole back set measurements of either 2 3/8” or 2 3/4”. The SmartCode 916 by Kwikset also features my reason for getting this lock set, Z-Wave automation. I use Samsung smart hub for my home automation and this deadbolt set easily joined my SmartThings hub by a push of a button. With this deadbolt set now part of my SmartThings devices, I can program in various time to lock and unlock my entry door automatically! The SmartThings app also keeps track of when the door was opened and closed. One other great feature is that I can easily see the status of the door, wether it’s opened or closed, and then I can either open or close the deadbolt from anywhere! The Z-wave functionality isn’t needed for this lock to work perfectly, it’s just for those who like to automate its use. Another outstanding feature of this deadbolt set is that it supports Kwikset smart key, which means that you can re-key this lock to a different key used on some other lock for the house. With this Smart Key feature, re-keying the lock is simple and enables you to open up different locks with the same key! The other lock must use a common key standard of KW1 to allow this re-keying functionality. This is a solid, distinctive and very well made product from Kwikset that has all the features you could possible ask for. The instructions were clear and precise, it's battery operated and if your replacing an older deadbolt set with this new, highly automated one, you’ll be very happy with the look and operation of the Kwikset SmartCode 916. You’ll now be able to open the door by pushing in a personal code, enter with a key or automate its functionality through your home automation system! One more quick note: As I continued to work with Samsung Smartthings & this Kwikset deadbolt, I was able to set guest code attached to a guest name! Every time someone used their code, Smartthings logs in the name of the guest, whether they're locking or unlock the deadbolt and the time they entered thhe code, an invaluable piece of engineering on this Kwikset Deadbolt set & Smartthings!

The SMARTCODE 916 Z-WAVE TOUCHSCREEN CONTEMPORARY IRON BLACK SINGLE CYLINDER ELECTRONIC DEADBOLT WITH SMARTKEY SECURITY by Kwikset has new technology as well as a new look. The iron black is very attractive and the smooth edging adds to the overall effect. It is contemporary and will fit in many home styles, including our mid-century. There's so much to say about the app that goes with it. So much new technology from the one we installed downstairs last summer. You can offer up to 30 different codes so you know who entered your door and when. The Screen Touch technology prevents others from determining your code from the placement of your fingers. Instead, this lock scrambles the location of the numbers so all areas on the pad are used rather than a set of numbers that eventually leaves fingerprints and erases the numbers from wear! It also includes keys so if you have a family member or friend who can't use the keypad, they can always use a key! We are very excited about the lock and love its look and function.
