How do you bypass the built-in filter if you want to use a separate reverse osmosis system? I've tried removing the filter and then when I press the dispenser it proceeds to fill the inside of my refrigerator with water. There's not an automatic bypass.

The purpose of the built-in, internal water filter bypass mechanism, like a water bypass filter plug in older LG refrigerators, is not to stop the flow of water to the dispenser and ice maker when a physical filter cartridge is not installed. It allows water to flow to the dispenser and ice maker when a physical filter cartridge is not installed.
