Good fit, bad crisper
I read a lot of reviews before deciding on this purchase. On the whole, I am happy with my fridge so far. Many reviews said the crisper drawer froze things in the back of the drawer and this holds true. I keep veggies in the front of the drawer and have no problems which is fine for my needs. But, it's a bad design. Second thing about this fridge is there is no cheese drawer. I can live with out one, but it really does help with the freshness of dairy products. I tried to ask questions about the height of this fridge before buying, and didn't get the correct answer. I have a tiny space to work with and had to cut out a hole in the cabinet above. For some reason, the motor for this fridge is on the top. So when reading the specs, be aware that the fridge is about 3 inches taller in the back because of the motor. I still like my fridge. This fridge is perfect for smaller spaces, and yet holds a lot of food.

We have owned this fridge for 4 weeks. This is a very quiet refrigerator. If yours is noisy there is probably a malfunction with it. Since we have an open plan kitchen/dining/living area and our bedroom is located off of this room, it was essential to get a quiet fridge. I love it! You can barely tell that it's running. It is also a perfect size for us (a couple who like to cook). The shelves on the door are not adjustable but they seem to be sized well - and easily hold half-gallon cartons and bottles of wine as well as lots of smaller jars. The split-shelf in the main compartment has actually been really useful for those occasional extra tall/large containers. I never tried the manual ice maker - it felt flimsy and I had some covered Oxo ice trays that work really well so I pulled out the ice maker and drawer and just placed my trays on the shelf. The freezer drawers work well - they feel a little flimsy compared to my last LG fridge but I think you'd really have to bang them around to damage them. And the top smaller freezer drawer easily holds a Newman's Own sized pizza - or 3. I also like the platinum color. It is easy to wipe off fingerprints - the metal seems to have a coating on it (just like the last LG fridge I had). Overall it's a great fridge - no regrets on buying it.

It meets expectations. Minus one star because the refrigerator makes noticeable loud sounds — the manual says this is normal, when the internal temperature adjusts.

Love the size and so far all works very well, we’ve only had a couple of weeks. It is However, highly annoying that to get the doors reversed, an LG technician must be hired at $180.....Otherwise the warranty is void on the door??

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately there seems to be a fairly big misunderstanding. The GR-389R is not the slightest bit similar to this model. Although you may have purchased your unit 3 years ago, that model has been discontinued for several year now. It was originally released in 1999 and the last production was in 2004-2005. That said, your model is well over 20 years old so it is not strange that parts would be discontinued at this point. It is far likely you've purchased a second-hand/refurbished unit from an unauthorized dealer. We recommend reaching out to your retailer for more information. In regards to the part you're looking for, though it may be discontinued by LG, you may still be able to find it through 3rd party part resellers online. Kind regards. LGECanada

I would recommend this fridge only if you don't mind the minor issues I have. The worst item is with the temperature set to 34 the crisper drawer gets down to as low as 30. I thought the crisper drawer would be warmer than the cabinet but it's the opposite. With an accurate thermometer I checked the temp every morning and it was usually at 32 and occasionally higher or lower. I know this is accurate because leaf lettuce and radishes slowly turn translucent because of the bursting of the cells from freezing. I don't know if this can be corrected or if it's due to a design flaw that the crisper gets colder than the cabinet. The other thing is the ice maker doesn't work good enough for me. One thing is you have to be so careful when filling that the rails stay completely dry or ice starts building up in channels where the rails slide and you will have to remove that ice. The other thing is usually a couple ice cubes will not drop out no matter how hard you flip the handle. You can bang it upside down on the counter and they don't come out. It turns out the plastic political signs you see everywhere this time of year are made of the perfect material to cut yourself a shelf you can slide in where the ice maker went and a regular ice cube tray fits just right and is far superior for making ice. I also should point out that the delivery guys didn't do any sort of leveling and the top door swings shut considerably too hard and fast. It's annoying to me. To fix I would have to completely empty it so I could pull it out to get at the rear adjusters and I'm a little too old to mess with it. Make yourself a note to ask about the leveling. It's easy to forget during the excitement and trying to remember everything else.

A delivery nightmare with nothing but a call center to contact. First delivery we emptied our old refrigerator and waited. No one showed up, no calls, nothing. Finally late after the delivery window someone says the truck had a problem. Second delivery they get here, take the refrigerator off the truck and put it back on because it has a huge dent in it. Apparently no one inspected the thing before delivery. Third delivery they send three Spanish speaking delivery guys. Two speak no English and appear to be teenagers. The third, the boss, who speaks very little English, wants to drop the refrigerator at my door, refuses to take away the old refrigerator even though we have paid for that. He says he must be “quick quick”. We are clearly the last delivery on the truck and he wants to leave. We try to tell him that the old refrigerator has to go. Something is lost in translation and he decides to put the refrigerator back on the truck and leave. It’s pretty obvious that Home Depot farmed out the delivery to some company that then subcontracted to some company that then picked up some delivery guys off the street. Frankly I was terrorized. This last group of delivery guys were menacing and had no intention of doing the delivery and just wanted to leave. So much for Home Depot. All the call center could do was read off a script. They still haven’t refunded my money, apparently they are waiting to see what the three delivery guys did with the refrigerator after they left. Did it fall off the truck? Clearly corporate Home Depot either doesn’t know or doesn’t care. Luckily we didn’t empty our refrigerator waiting for the third delivery. Luckily our old refrigerator looks much better to us than when we started.

        Install issues
I wanted a reversible door because it is installed in a corner with the wall on the right side. The specs indicated that the door is reversible, but I was unable to get instructions on how to do this, and whether or not any special parts were needed. Calls to LG were fruitless. The answer is that there is only one special part- a plastic cover for the top of the hinge- and this comes with the fridge. Note that there were no instructions in the installation procedures about how to reverse the door. Fortunately, my installer was experienced and was able to figure it out. From what I could tell, the hinges are simply turned over to reverse the door opening. Two people did this since one was needed to hold the door while the other person attached the hinge. Note that the door has pockets on both sides to accommodate opening regardless of which side the door is mounted on. Also note that if your fridge is up against a wall, you need some space in order to reach in with your hand to grab the pocket. About an inch of space would be good. I just had the fridge installed, so I can't comment on its operation. I like the layout, but I don't care for the pull outs which are rather cheap plastic. I like the manual ice tray, since I did not want to run a water line to the fridge, and it does not take up much space. I would buy this again, and hope I feel the same way after running it.

I did a lot of research before I bought this. Consumer reviews rates LG very well. I needed a counter model with a certain height and width. Some mode.so aren’t available in 2022 because of the supply chain issues and I couldn’t wait. I’ve had it about 5 weeks and I love it. For a family of 4 it might be more of a challenge, but I remind myself up until the year 2000 I had one about the same size, and it didn’t have an ice maker or an automatic defrost! I love the little ice maker and haven’t had any problems with it.
