Q:can you use this on a metal roof

Answer This Question

A:  If the metal roof is flat, yes. If corrugated, no.

by|Sep 19, 2022

A:  Hello, Gennifer from Lomanco here. The turbine can be installed on a standing seam metal roof or a rolled profiled metal roof. At your discretion, you certainly can try our product but we do not recommend using these on barns, animal manure holds too much moisture and breaks down bearings and for that reason the warranty would be void. Please refer to our website: http://media.lomancovents.com/all_access/sales_literature/lo465_turbine_metal_roof.pdf to locate metal roof installation instructions. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call and speak to Customer Service at 1-800-643-5596.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, this is Gennifer from Lomanco. The turbine is not rated in NFA (net free area). With it's moving parts and the wind speed the product is rated in CFM (cubic feet per minute). This will vary based upon the wind speed. For example, a 12” turbine spinning at 5mph, will have a CFM rating of 347. At 8mph the CFM rating is 542. If the turbine were to stop spinning, it would exhaust 113 sq. inches of NFA. If you have any additional questions, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-643-5596.

Q:Could this be installed in the top of a 12' x 12' x 6' chicken pen for air circulation? The pen has hardware cloth sides and a shadecloth top. Would this device help to circulate the air in an open-air pen and keep it a little cooler, do you know?

DIY wind Turbine Installation on Flat Roof
I bought this Lomanco whirlybird wind turbine after talking to Lomanco's engineering department. The engineer assured me it would work very good for our 16' x 22' flat roof garage in Green Valley, AZ. In fact, he said there was no need for us to spend $400 on their solar unit. Today 5-21-15 I built an 18" riser and installed the entire unit on our garage. The top extends about 6" above the Parepet wall, so it does get good air. Tomorrow I will apply roof coating. Entire cost $150.

This was a replacement for another whirlybird that I had for about 38 years. It fit perfectly and was easily installed.

Never was able to get it completely level and the turbine has an obvious wobble. 2/3 of the predrilled holes weren't there so I had to improvise with self tapping screws. Works well for cooling my garage down but too soon to tell how it will last. A little rain got in when we had a really big downpour so I wouldn't recommend this for an attic.
