Product Overview

Oil Bond is a latex paint additive that helps latex paint adhere to oil-based or glossy surfaces, including polyurethane. Simply pre-treat the surface to be painted by wiping on a layer of Oil Bond using on a clean cotton rag, allow the surface to dry, then add a dose of Oil Bond to your choice of latex paint. Using Oil Bond is easier to use than sanding and without the clean-up of sanding. Save time and money with Oil Bond. Ideal for repainting cabinets, doors, trim, molding, paneling, railing, built-ins, and refinishing furniture.
  • Eliminates the need for time-consuming prep work, including sanding or priming the surface before painting oil-based and glossy surfaces, including polyurethane, with waterborne or latex paint
  • Plastic bottle is easy to use with a view strip on the side panel for ease of measurement and dosing into paint
  • Works with any brand or gloss of latex or waterborne paint
  • Low odor for ease of use
  • Cleans up easily with soap and water
  • 1 bottle of oil bond (1 qt.) can be used for up to 2 gal. of paint

Had to put three coats of white paint over dark stained poly coated wood. So far so good and it definitely saved time and mess. Next time I'll use a better grade of paint.

My wife used this on a stairway paint project. Worked beautifully. We didn't sand, or prime. We used a good floor paint, with Oil Bond. With all the traffic going up and down, it has been solid, perfect. Highly recommend!

Latex Agent makes amazing products! I found a discarded dresser from the 1960s on the side of the road. It was very beat up but I knew it was solid wood and could be restored to a beautiful piece of furniture. I wanted to redo this piece for my granddaughter but needed to find a way to make Latex paint more durable, especially for the top of the dresser. I spent weeks doing research on the best way to accomplish this. I found both Latex Hard Coat and Latex Oil Bond on the Home Depot website. After more research I learned that these products were highly recommended by "This Old House". That was good enough for me to give them a try. I used Latex Oil Bond for the first coat. This eliminated the need to strip and sand the dresser. Then I used Latex Hard Coat for the next 2 coats of paint. I can't believe how hard the paint dried! I would never attempt a painting project again without these products. They aren't cheap but a little goes a long way. I have enough left for my next 4 or 5 painting projects. I found the drying time to be the same with the additives and didn't notice a change in the color of the paint. I just wish Home Depot would carry these products in their store.

This is the real deal and saves so much time for me as a painting contractor. I was skeptical at first and had to do a few tests, latex paint with oil bond passed my scratch test over oil base trim very well. Oil base is very messy, smells in my client's home, takes forever to dry, is expensive to clean up and is all around time consuming. Oil bond eliminates all of these problems for me! I highly recommend! Pictures show a recent cabinet job I did. Cabinets were stained previously and latex paint would not stick at first. I added oil bond and it stuck perfectly even right after drying. Made my life a lot easier!

            Didn’t Work
I followed the directions closely and am seriously disappointed. I really wanted it to work. The latex paint easily scratched off. Glad I put on a limited test area.

              Worked great on walls
I followed the exact instructions for use on walls previously painted with oil based flat paint. It worked as expected.
