About This Product

Using Oil Bond is easier to use than sanding and without the clean-up of sanding. Save time and money with Oil Bond. Ideal for repainting cabinets, doors, trim, molding, paneling, railing, built-ins, and refinishing furniture.

Answer This Question

A:  I mix the two of them and so far it seems to have good results, the cabinet I painted is at least a year old since repainting and have a toddler that beats on it daily

Q:Can this be used on wood surfaces that have a color on them (they are inserts in our windows), but I'm not sure if they were oil stained, water-based stained or painted, though they do look more like they were stained. They are 30 years old; I just did one of the inserts with an oil-based stain and am not happy with how it is drying. So, I know I need this for that one insert. Is it going to be okay to mix up a batch of oil bond with latex paint and use on all of them, even if I don't know whether the 30 year old inserts are originally stained with oil or water based, or even painted?

A:  Read the label I would assume that urethane is same as oil base paint

A:  It did not work on a piece of furniture I was repainting. Made much more work for me I had to then sand it after using this product. I returned it as useless. Do not try on furniture.

My wife used this on a stairway paint project. Worked beautifully. We didn't sand, or prime. We used a good floor paint, with Oil Bond. With all the traffic going up and down, it has been solid, perfect. Highly recommend!

Latex Agent makes amazing products! I found a discarded dresser from the 1960s on the side of the road. It was very beat up but I knew it was solid wood and could be restored to a beautiful piece of furniture. I wanted to redo this piece for my granddaughter but needed to find a way to make Latex paint more durable, especially for the top of the dresser. I spent weeks doing research on the best way to accomplish this. I found both Latex Hard Coat and Latex Oil Bond on the Home Depot website. After more research I learned that these products were highly recommended by "This Old House". That was good enough for me to give them a try. I used Latex Oil Bond for the first coat. This eliminated the need to strip and sand the dresser. Then I used Latex Hard Coat for the next 2 coats of paint. I can't believe how hard the paint dried! I would never attempt a painting project again without these products. They aren't cheap but a little goes a long way. I have enough left for my next 4 or 5 painting projects. I found the drying time to be the same with the additives and didn't notice a change in the color of the paint. I just wish Home Depot would carry these products in their store.

This is the real deal and saves so much time for me as a painting contractor. I was skeptical at first and had to do a few tests, latex paint with oil bond passed my scratch test over oil base trim very well. Oil base is very messy, smells in my client's home, takes forever to dry, is expensive to clean up and is all around time consuming. Oil bond eliminates all of these problems for me! I highly recommend! Pictures show a recent cabinet job I did. Cabinets were stained previously and latex paint would not stick at first. I added oil bond and it stuck perfectly even right after drying. Made my life a lot easier!

I ordered this product on line on October 22nd with a delivery date of October 26th. After many telephone calls and on line chats I finally received my order. My projected was delayed almost a month. After receiving the product, I applied the product to the surface and mixed it into my paint as instructed on the bottle. The product did not work as advertised it did help one bit with application of paint. I had then had to strip and sand my retire project. I purchased four quarts and used two. I returned the two unopen bottles, but was stuck with paying for two quarts that were worthless. Don’t waste your time or money on the product.

I read online that it could be applied over unsanded varnish. After drying overnight it scrapped right off.
