I know it's of no help to you, but mine works perfectly with SmartThings via Z-Wave. But SmartThings has had trouble with other Z-Wave devices (Eaton Aspire outlet controls and Kwikset door locks), so my sense is that it's hit or miss on whether they play well with a given platform. I read somewhere that a jinky Z-Wave device will be more stable in operation if its in close physical proximity to another connected Z-Wave device. Good luck!

I can't answer with 100% confidence because wifi and Z-wave aren't always consistent in signal strength for every circumstance. My Leviton Z-wave switch is about 20' and 3 interior walls from the router/hub. It's very solid, marrying instantly and never dropping the connection. However, I have an outlet switch at the same location as the switch and I can't get a stable connection because it's at the floor level. I also tried to do exactly what you are doing with another brand of switch (similar quality and reputation) - about 40' to a detached garage - and I can't get the switch to handshake - despite having 3+ bars wifi signal. I've found that z-wave is less consistent in this regard.

What is this "Z wave technology"?

It is a wireless tech that lets you turn on and off the lights through an Application.

Does this require Wink hub or can you use other products - ie ADT Command panel?

Answers

It's Z-wave compatible, which means that it will marry to any hub brand that supports Z-Wave. I looked up Wink, and their Hub 2 is compatible. To the best of my knowledge, ADT always uses proprietary peripherals by design - they are not interested in compatibility with other brands or comm standards. But your task is easy - just check the specs of whatever hub you are shopping to see if Z-Wave is included.

does this require a neutral wire?

Answers

Yes, In general, any non-battery wifi device that transmits a signal to a hub or router will require a neutral wire because the device requires power to operate. Older residential circuits often did not run the neutral through the switchbox.

hello Is a simple hand-held on/off remote available for this product?

Asked by Ameliasburg December 20, 2019
1
Answer

Not really. You can only control this switch remotely through wifi. Typically that will be through the Leviton phone/tablet app or through a z-wave compatible wifi hub like Alexa. You could conceivably buy a hub-compatible remote switch to control it through the hub. So unless you have the hub already or are willing to use the Leviton app, it's an expensive way to to go. However, there are low cost wall switches out there that have radiofrequency-based dedicated remotes.

Will this work with Alexa?

Yes. But it requires a smart hub that is compatible with Alexa and Z wave. I personally use Samsung SmartThings hub.

Over Two Years of Use. Zero Issues.
Between this toggle switch and the dimmer version that Leviton offers, I’ve been extremely happy with the results of converting many of my standard switches into smart switches. They paired super easily with my SmartThings hub - less than a minute each. In general I only use Z-wave products like this to avoid clogging up my wifi or getting stuck in a particular ecosystem. I have around ten of this model and have been super impressed with the looks and reliability. I almost forgot sometimes that I have have the ability to use the physical switch because I use my Google Home or Amazon Echo to toggle the lights. Makes it super easy, in rooms with multiple of these installed, to turn all the lights/switches on with a single voice command. I continually find more practical reasons to add more of these. Such as, I recently replaced a ceiling fan switch to turn on/off based on temperature. My one and only complaint is that they make it so the face of the switch can be switched out with different colors, but occasionally, if pressed at a weird angle, it comes loose. Sill, I couldn’t speak more highly of this product and will continue to convert the remainder of my switches to these and the dimmer version.

A reliable smart switch with Z-Wave, so you don't have to add another device to your wi-fi network that could be insecure and expose your wi-fi password. I prefer these to smart bulbs since I like the option to be able to use the light switch, an app, or voice control - it added easily the first time to my Wink 2 Hub and it works great with both Amazon Echo and Google Home. Installation is easy, not much different than any other switch, though it does require a neutral and takes up more room in a switch box than a standard switch, so you might want to check first that you've got clearance to fit it (you probably do). If you're not sure you have a neutral in the box where you want to install this, I recommend checking first, even if you know you have neutral in other boxes

Works as expected. Paired easily with a Samsung Smartthings hub. Works with multiple apps that can work with z-wave devices. Installation did require that I look at the instructions because there were more terminals on it than what I knew they were for. The additional terminals are for when there is a three or more way installation. For most single location installation is pretty simple, you just need to make sure there is a neutral wire. So for those of you with older homes where it's common to only have a hot wire run to a switch this will require you to run a neutral wire or not use this. Also if you have small metal electrical boxes this may have a difficult time fitting in it there is much extra wire to stuff into the box too.

Hard to imagine how the specs and performance of this switch could be much better. It will install in both single and 3 way circuits, mates to both the older and current (Plus) Z-Wave versions, and has a user-configurable locator light on the bezel to indicate the switch state (on-off). I have the dimming version of this switch which should be used for lighting only, but this one can control motors and other higher load on-off devices up to a 15 amp draw. My SmartThings Z-Wave found and connected the switch instantly and there's no delay in toggling the switch from the network. Manual operation at the switch is a two way toggle rather than press-on/press-off, which gives it a traditional feel. In my experience, Leviton is doing a better job currently in setup and operation of wireless switches than their major competitors (I've installed Eaton and Lutron). Instructions are concise and straightforward - any homeowner can get through an install without a major challenge. However, these are big switches (see pic) and you'll want to assure you have room in a crowded switch box. You'll also need a neutral wire in the box, which provides the circuit needed for powering the wireless function. The instructions mention a color switching option for the exposed frame, but there are no parts included to do so. However, the white works fine for my install and it comes with a thick Decora plate.

The Decora Smart Light Switch with Z-Wave Technology Wallplate goes great with your smart home. The switch supports LED, CFL, incandescent, halogen, florescent and motor loads up to 1/2 Horse Power. Ensure you use only one switch on a multi-switch item. i.e. a light with two switches. Installation is pretty simple along with programming of the switch.

(What's this)
I have three different styles of Leviton smart switches and have been happy with them. They are easy to install, look great and are really easy to connect to my smart home. I use Wink as my hub (2.0) and then Alexa for voice control via Wink. It's pretty responsive and very easy to discover new lights. Plus, with z-wave you don't have to have a ton of different apps to connect to Alexa (e.g., Kasa, Geeni, Nest, Ring, etc that all require their own app.) I also appreciate that these don't require a WiFi connection directly so my router doesn't have more direct always on connections. I believe its added security as well since I only need to secure Wink rather than a dozen apps. Setting up in Wink is native and easy as you can just search "decora smart" and dimmers and switches come up with simple instructions to connect. For this install, I changed out three switches in a single wall panel: outside my garage (switch), foyer (dimmer), and porch (dimmer.) All three took all four wires, including neutral. Fortunately, my wall box was a single large box so it was easy to have the room to unravel the wires and install. Total time for installation of a single dimmer or switch was probably 15-20 minutes. All three took an hour or so. Once done, and once connected to Alexa via Wink I can now control and dim (for the dimmers). I'm really happy with these and would definitely recommend them.

Another great addition to my smart home. Requires some higher level electrical skills. You need to have access and a hook up to the neutral wire. Once installed it is very easy to hook up. Use it as a normal switch or leverage the Z-Waze technology and hook it up to your smart home. Very easy to hookup to it your smart home hub. Capable with many different brands.

Leviton DZ15S I really like these switches. They are a quality product; they don't have that cheap feel to them. This one come with white color face plates, which is grate, and also have little sharp edges or better say sharp look to it. I have white for all of my receptacles, switches, etc. It makes it difficult to buy the z-wave devices I want, and this gives great flexibility. It connected effortlessly with my wink hub 1st gen, haven't had any connection issues. The design is great. I really like how this switch is curved out on top and bottom. These do not stay in off or on position when you press them; it clicks on and goes back to ready position and same for off without movement like a regular rocker switch but it looks like rocker switch. Unlike old designed that have one micro switch that operate on/off, this switch have two micro switches inside on top and bottom I like this design and I think it looks better than the standard flat look, like on other z-wave switches that I come across. OVERALL I REALLY LIKE THESE DESIGN SO FAR. Make sure that you have neutral wire in your box if no neutral it will not work!

These switches are great. Z-Wave is the way to go for smart products like this. Having multiple smart switches and such that connect to your home network and to the internet is not a "Smart" idea. Too many devices can cause conflicts on your network, slow down your network speed, and even make it easier for others to break into your network. Z-wave is all contained in your home and is a very fast form of wireless communication between devices. As for the switch, Leviton has always made a good product. This switch can also be used as a 3-way switch.
