What is the amperage rating on this dimmer switch?

The amperage should be on the package or stamped into the steel housing.

The wall box has one black, one white and one red wire. No matter how I connect the dimmer switch, it will not work.

This is because that circuit is wired for a 3 way switch. Idon't think you will find a 3 way dimmer switch.

The reason for two black wires is that you put them is series with the black wires you have giving power to the light. if you only have a black and a white wire in your box it is mostly that the person dong the initial wiring didn't do by code. should have been two blacks. Your are only braking one leg of the voltage being supplied to the light. Black is hot and white is normally a ground going back to your electrical panel. to be sure take a voltage tester to the two wires in you box. if not voltage is present take one leg at a time to the ground wire in your junction box. One of the two should give you 120VAC

ONLY MY OPINION. I am not a scientist or electrical engineer. I'm sure that there is a scientific explanation about the rheostat interaction and the cause. I have had many different dimmers in 30 years of use I have heard the hum/buzz/noise in some of them. I have this switch and it doesn't make the noise at all, but I have two others that do/did. It increases in pitch as the brightness increases. The noise in modern day is either a problem with the wiring. It is not tight enough and a loose connection will make it buzz. In current LEDs and old light bulbs, there could be a problem with the bulbs. If there is a buzz return the switch to the store and explain the return and they will exchange it (usually) there are also compatibility issues with some bulbs/LEDs and dimmers. Read the details carefully

How to install on a vanity if the vanity has white and black cords only?

On a standard 2-way switch, the white wires are connected to each other with a wire nut, and the 2 black wires are connected to the switch. DO NOT connect a white wire to the switch. (The black wire on the switch will connect to a black wire, and the first red wire on the switch will connect to a black wire; the red wire with the label should be left alone unless you have a 3-way switch).

It works fine. But.... there’s a gap from the switch plate
This dimmer is well-priced. But the caveat is there is a gap from between behind the knob and the switch plate: quite aesthetically unpleasant. If that something doesn’t bother your eyes, then it’s fine. The plastic part doesn’t look high end like the Lutron’s brand.

Just what we needed. Installed light switch in cabinet with deep drawers. Needed a switch that didn't require visualization to turn on/off and dim under counter LED lights that will be mounted under our island overhang. You just open the drawer a bit, push on/off and turn knob for dim/bright. Fact that it is half the price of other dimmers doesn't hurt. Works great.

I installed this dimmer switch as a simple single pole installation to control a light in the foyer. The instructions are complete and easy to follow. The dimmer switch fit easily in the middle of two other traditional switches. No adjustments were needed. I easy re-mounted the original faceplate. I attached a few pics to show the process and results. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking in this category.
