Questions & Answers

How many lights in a 40 x 60 shed with 15ft ceilings?

Asked by: Bsig
I would suggest 8 on 4 switches then you can light up what you need and not waste energy. That is what i have in my 55 x 75 shop but I have 20" cielings. So each will light less area with lower cielings.

I have a 25x26 metal carport how many lights should I put in to get me very well lighted

Asked by: Gary
Since this model is apparently not available without the holes in the reflectors, it would not be suitable for that use. You would need to choose a different model which is available without the holes in the reflectors and is therefore, suitable for mounting directly on the ceiling. If you want to illuminate the garage, the plastic wrap arounds are probably the best choice.

Asked by: jim55
If you r power supply is 277vac you use the red wire if not just tuck it into the fixture.

Is there a diagram for adding a wire plug to this lighting fixture?

I would like to mount this fixture on a moveable stand, but I have zero experience with wiring, any advise or resource you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Asked by: Wire guy
no wiring diagram but it is straight forward. for 110v wire the black to the black wire on your cord or plug in white to white and green to ground. I suggest buying an inexpensive extension cord and cutting off the female end to use. it is usually cheaper than buying wire and a plug end.

Customer Reviews

High Bay Industrial 6-Light Grey Hanging Fluorescent Fixture is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great if you don't mind replacing the ballast in a year or two. Purchased four of these units for our warehouse area and they are very bright! After about two years, two of the fixtures have lost a ballast (there are two ballast in each fixture) leaving only 3 of 6 bulbs lit. While these weren't hugely expensive - it'll actually cost more to have an electrician come up and replace the ballast than the fixture originally cost. I have another facility I'm purchasing 8 fixtures for but I've decided to go with a competitor's model that Home depot doesn't carry. It's made by Cooper Lighting uses an Osram ballast which I hope will work better (good name). That ballast has a 5 year warranty. Home depot may not be willing to purchase a better fixture but what's the point in saving a few bucks on the initial purchase if it breaks in 2 years. Something like this is more of a pain to fix than it would be to just spend extra on a decent fixture. If the new fixtures work out I'll likely just replace these ones with the other brand as well as buying them for all of my other locations.

We have installed over a dozen of these fixtures in our shop. Most of the fixtures that we bought replaced 2 bulb fixtures in the main aisle. I like how easy it is to install the pins of the bulb into the socket. The light fixtures are about a month old at the time of this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy cow is that the sun I installed in my garage!!! If you want a ligting system that is fairly easy to install but puts off enough light to melt the skin from your face this is it. I bought 3 of these lights upon seeing them in the store and how much light one gave off. I have a 2 bay garage and a 1/2 in the back of garage. One light gives off enough light to see everything. 3 is a little over kill but I like to work on cars in the garage at house so more light the better. If you buy this lighting system you will not be dissapointed. Cost is a little high compared to others but you get a light that starts up in like .2 secs and also starts at 0 Degress. I live in Maine so that is important even in my fully insulated garage, no heat in there though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good light but can interfere with your radio. Bought three of these fixtures for my shop (10' ceilings). They put out great light and were very easy to install. The only issue I have had is radio interference. They are on three separate light switches, so when I noticed that my DeWalt Radio was sounding fuzzy, I tracked the interference to one fixture. I checked all of the connections and they were tight. I called Lithonia and was told that these are considered industrial fixtures and the ballasts are not required to meet the residential interference specifications. So if you purchase this fixture you MAY have an issue with radio reception. I only have it on one, so it's not necessarily going to happen to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright Lights Big Garage I work in warehousing and these are the same lights that are used in distribution centers, i.e. huge spaces that need a lot of light. So when I found these at the Home Depot, I was pretty excited to try them in my garage. I installed 7 in my 6 car garage and it is as bright as the sun in there. Probably could have gotten by with 4 lights. But there is plenty of light for detailing the car, cleaning the carb on the mower, etc. It took a while to wire and hang all of them but glad it turned out so well. Oh and they come on right away, no flickering or anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Instructions - But Worth The Install This unit comes with spartan instructions on the box, and presents a bit of a challenge for the electrical connection. First off, you need to PURCHASE SEPARATELY the chain hanger for an easy install -- they are not included (Part HC-36) located in the same aisle at Home Depot. The wiring is a bit confusing, and no external diagram is included nor is it easy to find on the web. If you disassemble the fixture, you find the directions on the ballast that there are three wires -- White, Black -- and RED (although on the other side of the connector is is GRAY). The White and Black connect in the usual way, white to white and black to black.. The Red (aka GRAY) can be connected to the WHITE -- and then the fixture will function at 100% brightness. If left unconnected, it starts at 100% but then dims (I think to 60%), Alternately you could arrange for a dimmer operation by installing a switch in-line between the RED and the White.. Once installed the unit is very Bright (another reviewer said it best -- did I install the sun in here?) -- and my dark garage is now bright. Now I just need to install my other unit in the other garage bay and I will be all set. I wish the manufacturer would include instructions for the unit -- but they are here now so you don't have the long install that I did. I have included a photo of the Ballast so others don't need to disassemble their units. It shows the written instructions, and also the connector with the Gray to Red color change.
