Q:I currently have a 600 watt single pole dimmer wired to a 6-60 watt light fixture and the dimmer switch gets pretty warm when the dimmer switch is up all the way. Would the 1000 watt dimmer switch be a better option to run this 6 light fixture without heating up?

Answer This Question

A:  The 600 watt unit that you are currently using should be completely fine for the amount of wattage that you have on the circuit. If however, you are concerned with the heat dissipation, the 1000 watt dimmer should be cooler to the touch at 360 watts compared to the 600 watt dimmer that you are currently using.

by|May 4, 2023

A:  Based on the research I did you should have sufficient safety margin. 6 bulbs times 60W equals 360 watt. Multiply by 1.25 to account for margin of safety and you'll get 450 watt. Your 600watt dimmer should be sufficient. You do not need the 1000 watt.

        A:  Yes, this will work.

        by|May 3, 2023

A:  The TG-10P is rated for 1000W of incandescent/halogen lighting loads. If your application fits this specification, Lutron would suggest this device.

Q:Will this dimmer works for my chandelier which has 9 40W LED bulbs

            1 Answer
            Answer This Question

A:  Unfortunately this dimmer is not rated to work with LED bulbs and should only be used with incandescent or halogen. Lutron does manufacture a line of CL dimmers that are rated to work up to 150W or 250W of dimmable LED bulbs but you will want to ensure the bulbs you are using are on the Compatible bulb list for each product. In the Toggler series, Lutron offers model AYCL-153P-IV for 150W max or AYCL-253P-IV, for 250W max. It is also important to note that while your LEDs are equivalent to 40W, they are not actually consuming 40W. So when we talk about the 150W/250W max, we are using the actually wattage used, and not the 40W equivalent. If you have further questions on your application, please feel free to give our 24/7 Support line a call at 800-523-9466.

              Hard to use
I put a nice cover over the light switch - not the plain inexpensive cover. The problem is that the dimmer part of the switch does not stick out too far and with the nice cover (perhaps a bit thicker than the cheapie) and it is hard to dim the lights. Aside from this, It looks great in my newly lit den. I will learn to tolerate this minor inconvenience - it beats having bright lights and no mood. But the design could have been better.

              Response from lutronJan 4, 2022
We're sorry to hear about your experience with your dimmer making your lights flicker. The TG-10PR is rated only for incandescent and halogen bulbs, so performance issues such as flickering can occur when using LEDs. We do, however, offer an LED version of this product, model TGCL-153P, which is designed specifically to control dimmable LEDs.

We also suggest making sure your dimmable LED has been tested and approved by Lutron. We have a mobile-friendly web tool to help you select bulbs that perform well with Lutron dimmers. To use the tool please visit lutron.com/ledfinder.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to our Customer Support team at support@lutron.com, or call us 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, so please call us any time!

I needed a high capacity dimmer of a circuit that has many halogen spots. This dimmer is doing the job! I have it running near 1000 Watts and it does not get hot or even warm.

                  Nice, but....
This dimmer was purchased for dimable LED bulbs. It states that it will dim the types of lights, but every once in a while the lights will flicker for just a moment. The level of the light dimmer setting does not seem to make a difference to when this could occur.

                  1000 watt Lutron dimmer
This 1000 watt Lutron dimmer replaces a 450 watt unit that has been running too warm for my chandelier. The new unit works flawlessly and is what the electrician should have used originally.

                  1000-Watt Single-Pole Dimmer
Product was easy to install. It did not get hot like the less expensive one I purchased earlier. It does get a litte warm, but that is to be expected. There is no buzzing or humming from this dimmer.

                  Great safe product
I just purchased a home,In the master bath there are 22 40 watt lights over the mirrors controlled by one dimmer. If the lights were on for a short time the switch would get very hot.come to find out it was a 600 watt dimmer switch so I changed it out with the new 1000 watt switch and its fine now. I didn't have to change the face plate the old one fit.
