Q:Our new Moen faucet has lost water pressure to a slow stream. I tried a new tip on the sprayer and have replaced the cartridge. The cartridge has a slide pin on the sides which change the hole closures. Is there a right or wrong way or position.

Q:Moen hasn't supplied us with directions to replace the cartridge 1255. Do the install instructions exist anywhere in this universe? Must we get under sink and take entire faucet out to access the spot of install for the cartridge?

A:  If you have a single handle faucet the moen cartridge is located in side the handle that is connected to the faucet It’s easy to install

A:  Do NOT remove the entire faucet. DO turn off the water before you do anything else. Essentially, you loosen a set screw that holds the lever in place, and then unscrew a plastic nut that holds the cartridge in place. This can all be done in just a few minutes. I believe that Moen has a video online. Otherwise, there's a YouTube instruction video for just about anything you want to see. If your problem is that the cartridge is leaking, you may find that it's more about the loosened retaining nut than about the cartridge itself. In my experience, there is a design flaw that allows the nut to loosen over time. You might find that merely tightening it periodically is the only fix you need.

                  Terrible design
These cartridges fail after a couple years, but worse than that, the locking nut is loosened by day to day use of this sink, so you have to take it apart and tighten it every few months or risk a major leak and water damage

Replacemt Cartridge Retainer Nut is Key to Success
I bought this One-Handle Pullout faucet in 2019 and it started leaking in September 2022. The problem traced to the cartridge retaining nut which had loosened over time. I simply tightened the same/original plastic nut and replaced the handle. The nut came loose and leaked again 3-1/2 months later (New Year's Day, 2023). Tightening again for a temporary repair, days later I eventually got through to Moen at 1-800-289-6636. The phone rep was excellent. After confirming I had their faucet (original installation guide, but no receipt), she ordered me a replacement cartridge and retainer nut at no-cost. The original nut has a standard continuous-thread design (no position-retainer) and is prone to backing-out/loosening over time. The new retainer nut has a discontinuous/split-thread of some sort, designed to jam in place. Installation instructions say: "Tighten the nut "Hand Tight" then rotate an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn)." But, since the jamming resistance begins to occur with every 1/4 turn during initial tightening, it's a bit of a guess what "Hand Tight" means. (It's probably something near a full-turn past the point where jamming resistance is hand-tight with no tool.) But using a 13/16 socket (alone) in my hand gave a decent sense of "reasonably tight" before applying the final 1/4 turn.

                      Working on another cartridge replacement
Bought the Brecklyn faucet [Model 87557SRS] spot resist faucet about 2 years ago and the cartidge only lasted 1-1/2 years. Think I only had to replace a cartridge one time in 10 years with my old Moen. Was sent a 1255 cartridge under warranty last November and now this new 1255 cartridge has failed again in less than 6 months. I have water all over the place. Also, the special spot resist coating has been peeling off may spot resist faucet [87557SRS]. No, we have not used any abrasives or abrasive cleaners on the faucet. Used to respect the Moen quality, but it has been nothing but a hassle and starting to think about replacing this faucet with another brand. See some of the same issue in other reviews.

To all folks out there who use the 1255 cartridge, and experience external leaks. There is a fix from Moen. 1) The leak is caused by the nut loosening a little bit every time the handle is rotated from one side to another. 2) PIN ASSEMBLY (Locking Spring) - Moen fixed problem by adding this item which locks the nut in place. HOWEVER, the nut has to be the newer designed nut with slots (spaces) between the threads. In other words – the thread is not a continuous thread. (see picture) 3) Moen sells a complete kit with PIN ASSEMBLY and new style nut, but it has a new Part Number: 205013-01 4) You can verify this by contacting Moen.

Faucet leaks after several years may cause damage
I thought the Moen brand was a great brand and have been using them exclusivly afer a Brand PF was such a terrible brand to find parts for, or fix. Now this new Moen cartridge in my Kitchen pullout sprayer Moen faucett has turned into a disappointment. The cartridge leaks after several years not the hose. Then if you take it apart and retighten the cartridge nut it will leak again after several months. It the design needs a locking tab for the cartridge nut as every time you turn the faucett side to side you are losening the cartridge nut, and then it leaks again. Water damaage down in your sink cabinent or something underneath the leak area.
