15 Amp 10 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser

After some tweaking, I was able to make this saw the most accurate slider I've ever used. And I've used all of the 12" inchers -- Bosch Glide, Dewalt DWS780, Milwaukee 6955-20, etc. Yes, you lose 2" of capacity with this 10" saw vs. a 12" but that's not a concern for me. I rate it 4 stars -- no 5th star for the reasons listed below. 1. As has been noted in many reviews, the saw head does not slide perfectly parallel to the rails resulting in a cut with a concave or convex belly. There are two 4mm allen screws on the end of the rails near the bevel adjustment knob; you can loosen these and stick a board between the rails to twist them one way or the other then tighten screws and test. Should you have to do this on a $600 saw? NOPE. This is the biggest disappointment on this saw and it's been an issue since the saw's release for both 10" & 12" versions. 2. The fences are a disappointment as you have to completely remove them to do bevel cuts whereas most other brands, they slide out of the way but remain on the saw. The Makita fences do not slide. 3. The laser is OK but nothing beats Dewalt's shadow line system. There is no adjustment on the shadow line; it's dead accurate and you can see exactly where both sides of the cut will be. Makita laser has to be adjusted and only shows one side of cut. 4. Dust collection is OK but could be better. The saw has two dust collection shrouds - one on the saw head that follows the blade as it moves up and down and the other is a large mouth that is stationary. You connect the vacuum to the port on the saw head so collection is very good from there but you don't get enough suction through the large mouth collection shroud. It seems saws sold in other countries have this reversed where you connect the vacuum near the large mouth collection shroud. Not sure if that setup would be better or worse. 5. If you plan on cutting crown in the nested position with the optional accessory crown stops; I would find another way. You have to remove the crown stops and reposition them every time you go from 45* left to 45* right. I kept my old DW716 for doing crown. 6. Issues with the saw stand is it's very difficult to install/remove the saw from the stand as you can't wheel the stand around with the saw on it. The stand's wheels are small plastic doodads that are worthless. Do a search on online for WST06 and look at reviewer photos for how to add an axle and some harbor freight wheels to make the stand mobile with the saw installed. I did this and it's a great stand now.

Let me begin by saying that I'm a Makita fan and own many tools by Makita. Overall, they are known for their quality and ease of use, but they do have a few bad apples. Unfortunately, this saw is one of them. The cuts are not straight, the laser is awful and not a substitute for a true shadow line, the weight of this saw is ridiculous and it's awkwardly shaped due to it's massive table. And to top it all off, the controls are clumsy. I really hope that Makita improves at least some of these flaws on their next attempt at battery miter saw, which I would gladly buy.

I had an earlier model of a Makita saw, and used it for years without a trouble. This new model has many improvements that I will love.

Cons: Laser stopped working after 2 months Dust collection is the worst among top brands. Dual port is poorly designed and gets clogged on every job. Large diameter base makes the saw difficult to carry. No Led lights, Laser is not a substitute. Cumbersome adjustment knobs Pros: Very Smooth sliding mechanism Base/fence is well made Verdict. Better than average, but far from letting design engineers to take pride for their creation.

I bought this saw after reading multiple articles on miter saw brands, features and models. Also, I have other Makita tools and have been pleased with their quality and performance. While I have only had this saw for a few weeks, so far I've been very pleased with it. After setting it up, I followed the instructions in the manual to tune all of the angle adjustments to ensure accuracy, and with a few minor adjustments the saw cuts perfect miter joints for crown moldings and picture frames. Take full advantage of the saw's dual bevel compound features to cut complex moldings laid flat. The manual contains a very helpful table to get you to the right miter settings, even if your wall corners are not exactly 90 degrees. I am very happy I chose this Makita saw!

I just got my saw today and got it set up on a temporary stand (I will build a miter saw station for it in the next few days). It arrived in perfect condition. I've seen some reviews saying the Makita packaging for this saw wasn't good. That wasn't true for me - the packaging was very good. The saw was in a sturdy box, that was then wrapped in another set of thick cardboard top and bottom pieces with very strong and thick cardboard corners that protected it well. I literally have never used a compound miter saw before, but it didn't take me long to get the saw set up. I put the blade on (which was a bit of a struggle, since I had never done it before, but took me less than 5 minutes to figure out anyway), adjusted the kerf slot for a 90-degree cut, and that was pretty much it. I made a few test cuts on some scrap 1x4 pine I had, and although my testing certainly wasn't extensive, the cuts I made came out perfectly square right out of the box, and they were incredibly smooth, with no tear-out at all on the back side. Adjusting the miter and bevel angles is easy. The kerf slot needs to be adjusted when making bevel cuts, but it's easy to do that (just remove the fences, loosen four screws, adjust the kerf slot pieces, tighten the screws, and put the fence back in place - takes less the 5 minutes). The laser worked well, but it might need to be adjusted a bit to match the cut line exactly. It can be adjusted to match the cut line on either the left or right side of the blade, but I haven't tried to adjust it yet. I really liked that I could see right where the cut would be, which for me not only helped to make an accurate cut, but more importantly, gave me more confidence that I was cutting safely. I hooked up my old shop vac to it, and the dust collection seemed to be pretty good. There was still some sawdust around the saw, but less than I expected. All-in-all, this saw seems to be excellent quality (especially for the price - about 1/3 the price of the Festool miter saw, but with most of the same features).

I have only had this saw for a few weeks and the miter lock switch has broken off. I purchased the saw for its assumed power, capacity, accuracy, and durability; but if this broken part is any indication of future performance, I am not confident I will have it very long. I am disappointed that it broke so quickly, and that plastic was the material of choice for such a frequently used part. It may be a great saw, but the very early failure of a simple and mandatory component has been frustrating.

Space saver heaven! Having the Slade action where it is saves my workshop trailer 13” from rear of sliding action. My old alder needed 13” more room in the rear! This is a must have for anyone that has limited room or wants to maximize their area. Also have all the levers in front is a dream come true! Older models you have to do a “reach around” to adjust your bevel! No more! Must have miter saw

After extensive research reading reviews and watching videos on miter saws, I came down to choosing between this Makita (Model # LS1019L), the DeWalt DW717, 10" double-bevel sliding compound miter saw, and the Bosch Glide Miter GCM12SD. I chose the Makita. Primary reasons: it has the same or better cutting capacity of 12" saws, the soft start feature, the bevel unlock/lock knob is right in front and easy to use, the off-set slide bars result in reduced space taken up behind the saw, the dual dust collection ports, and the fact that a 10" blade costs less than a 12" (over time it adds up). Shipping was fast. Packaging left a lot to be desired as the box had several tears and the saw and loose components were basically separated by pieces of cardboard. Several loose pieces had obviously bounced around and the rubberized guard around the blade had come off. With that said however, I was surprised and happy to see there was no damage to the saw. The setup was easy, the alignments were correct right out of the box, the table was level, and everything worked consistently over many trial cuts. My dislikes are few......when talking to Makita about adapters for the dust vacuum ports, they aren't much help. Makita does not make an adapter and simply suggests going to HomeDepot and buying plastic plumbing parts. I have several vacuum ports on equipment in my shop and a central system so I have pieces and parts. I purchased the POWERTEC 70175 Dust Collection Hose with Fittings Plus Two Reducers on Amazon and was able to connect my vac system. I did not like any of the Makita rolling miter saw stands so I mounted the saw on the Delta Power Equipment Corporation 36-267 Foldable Miter Saw Stand (see picture). It is similar to the Bosch Gravity rise rolling stand, but costs less. It works great with this saw. The only "adapting" you need to do is shorten the attachment bolts in front as their length will interfere with turning the table. It was easy to simply cut them off, which I did with a hand grinder fitted with a cut off blade once the bolts were in place (see pictures). I've had the saw a few weeks now and I'm very happy with this purchase so far. It has met and/or exceeded my expectations.
