Where is it made
Thank you for your question on the XVJ01Z jig saw. This tool's origin is Thailand. Please be advised that all of the Makita corporation's manufacturing centers around the world are held to the same Quality Criteria.
Does this actually have the dust blower? The description says it does but some reviews contradict this.
I think the description referencing a dust blower is a mistake. The user manual and illustrated parts breakdown do not reference a 'dust blower'. There is an optional dust extractor assembly, part number 126331-0, that is used with a vacuum cleaner or dust extraction system. I purchased the optional dust extractor and it works as expected on this jigsaw.
Will it cut through 2x lumber at 45 degree bevel?

Will the soft start work when cutting metal
Thank you for your question. The XVJ01Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Barrel Grip Jig Saw, Tool Only automatically reduces the no-load speed to reduce the vibration under no-load. Once the tool gets load, the tool speed reaches the preset speed. See pages 6-7 of the included instruction manual for speed adjustment.
Where's the trigger? I don't see a trigger in any of the photos. On other models, you can see a trigger.
You are right .... there is no trigger only the buttons you see in the photo. Unfortunately this makes for awkward operation and I ended up returning my tool and ordered the regular jigsaw that is also brushless.

Is there not a way to turn off the soft start function? I use jigsaws to cope trim molding. It is beyond annoying to have the tool start slow then kick into the desired speed in the middle of a cut. This has resulted in several broken pieces of material.

It's in the owners manual for all recently manufactured ones. Set the dial to 1 Press the unlock button Scroll the dial to 6, then back to 1 The LED light should be blink twice indicating that soft start has been turned off
