Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes, Makita offers a guide rail connector kit (P-20177) which is designed to join guide rails together to allow the user to make longer cuts while maintaining the accuracy they desire. Please refer to the following website www.makitatools.com/products/details/P-20177 for more information.

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question on the 55' guide rail. This would depend on your application. The guide rail clamp number is 191J52-3. Link provided. https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/191J52-3

A:  They are available, however in most cases unnecessary.

        by|Feb 13, 2023

A:  Yes and no. It has a high friction foam rubber strip on the bottom that is usually adequate to keep the track in place as long as most of the track is on the material being cut. For short pieces or when you want more certainty that it won't move, track clamps are a nice accessory to have.

The guide works perfectly for my need. There is a splinter guard which prevents tearout. I was not aware of until I used it. Even without clamps this will sit pretty still on your workpiece due to the strips on the bottom of which provide traction and stabilizes it. I used this with the cordless Makita tracksaw

Make sure to measure before cutting...
I hate to leave a less-than-5 star review on this, but the fact is, those who are buying this are probably using it to connect to another rail, and Makita is not holding tolerances on this very well at all. This because a huge problem when you mate it with another rail, because when you set your saw gibs to be tight on one rail and the rails aren't the same dimension (even by 0.2mm), that means it will be noticeably loose or so tight you can't move the saw to the other. They either need to fix their quality control, or sell rails as a pair that are the same size, because as of now, you can't buy a second rail and expect it to fit; you need to buy 3 or 4 and keep the two closest fitting ones, and return the ones that don't work together.

If accuracy is important to you then this is the best track on the market. It is deceptively heavy which, in this application, is a good thing. I also like how grippy it is as clamps are not required to make an accurate cut, it does not move if you keep the slightest downward pressure on it. The Makita brand case is nice but, I would have liked if they included a divider piece between the two sides to keep them from touching each other. It has not been a problem yet but, if a piece of debris gets in there I am afraid of the two tracks grinding on each other.

How did I not have this before? If the cost to get set up with a track saw is keeping you from pulling the trigger, stop hesitating.

This and the adapter turned my thin kerf Makita 6.5" circular saw into a very accurate panel saw. Used for clean grooves in oak through nails and glue. Rails sticks to the wood and does not move!

I got two of these to allow connecting them for longer cuts. Together with the connectors, they gave me a straight square cut.
