      Q:If i combine a 55” track with a 39” track (94” total), can i cut a 96” sheet with precision? Or do i need two 55” tracks?

      Answer This Question

A:  (2) 55" tracks are better because the saw needs to be on the track and supported before it starts the cut . If you are looking for the best cut the 118" one is the best although it is slightly expensive and a lot harder to move around. (2) 55" tracks take time to line up correctly to get a super accurate cut.

      by|Feb 21, 2022

A:  For a clean cut you’d want it to go all the way through with a track that would hang over both edges.

        by|Feb 20, 2022

A:  Thank you for your question on the 194368-5 guide rail. We recommend using the 118" or 2 55" rails.

A:  I am amazed at how great these tracks work, there is minimal slop when joining the two together

            by|Feb 22, 2022

              A:  Either combination should work.

              by|Feb 20, 2022

A:  You would need 2 55” tracks because you need the extra length to keep to track saw on the track for the whole cut

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes, you can move the rail across the wood and cross cut a 8' piece of plywood. To cut the full length you will need another 55" rail and connect them with two connectors.

                  by|Nov 4, 2020

A:  It might be possible to stop & move the rail & saw but it would be real fussy & defeat the accuracy of quality tracksaw. If you are using a Makita track saw the guide rail should extend 3 to 4 inches beyond the beginning & end of plywood sheet. The saw baseplate underside channel has 2 raised rectangular bosses that ride on the side of raised rail of the guide rail. Those bosses are set back 1-3/4" in front & 2-7/8 " in back. Once one boss is beyond the track end the saw will have a millimeter side to side play with the blade still cutting wood resulting in unsquare cuts. If you buy 2 rails get 2 sets of connectors. Each set consists of 2 pieces. They sell double packs (4 pieces) which are cheaper than buying 2 single packs of 2 pieces. One set goes on top & one goes underneath resulting in a rigid connection though it takes a while to learn to use the fiddly parts.

A:  It depends on how true you want your cut. You can ‘move’ the rail, however I recommend a jig for the rail to “follow along’’ as you move your rail to complete the cut. Connecting two rails is a better solution - though, in my opinion some ‘slop’ is still noticeable, with too much set-up time lining up the guide rails using the connector kit. The best solution (though expensive) is buying the 118in rail, it’s true throughout your cut, without the ‘slop’ noticed between the connected rails.

A:  The Makita tracks have very good high friction backing strips that keep the track from slipping without requiring any clamping, so for eight foot cuts, two 55” tracks will work much better.

                    by|Nov 11, 2020

A:  Yes, use a straight backer board or straightedge clamped down that extends the length of the board being cut and you can reposition your makita rail along it as you cut. I have done this many times since you will never find the 118 rail ever again.

                    by|May 18, 2022

A:  You could, but it would be more accurate to invest in a 118” rail let alone a lot less agrivation.

A:  Yes they do. I have both and have made many cuts with mixed brand rail sections. Get the Beterly straight line connector to make the connection fast and accurate.

A:  Thank you for your question. Makita does not recommend using accessories or attachments other than those specifically made for the tool being used. Please refer to your instruction manual for other compatibility questions.

A:  I don't know, so I Googled it and found an article in Popular Woodworking. They reviewed the Makita SP6000, the Festool TS55 and the DeWalt DWS520 and concluded that the Festool and Makita tracks were so close that you could link them together. And they said that the Festool rides on a Makita track. There's more and I recommend you look up the article.

The guide works perfectly for my need. There is a splinter guard which prevents tearout. I was not aware of until I used it. Even without clamps this will sit pretty still on your workpiece due to the strips on the bottom of which provide traction and stabilizes it. I used this with the cordless Makita tracksaw

I hate to leave a less-than-5 star review on this, but the fact is, those who are buying this are probably using it to connect to another rail, and Makita is not holding tolerances on this very well at all. This because a huge problem when you mate it with another rail, because when you set your saw gibs to be tight on one rail and the rails aren't the same dimension (even by 0.2mm), that means it will be noticeably loose or so tight you can't move the saw to the other. They either need to fix their quality control, or sell rails as a pair that are the same size, because as of now, you can't buy a second rail and expect it to fit; you need to buy 3 or 4 and keep the two closest fitting ones, and return the ones that don't work together.

I was concerned the 55” rail would be damaged in the shipping process, but I received in the rail from Home Depot HD) without damage. When I arrived home from HD, I placed the rail on a piece of pine 1” x 4” and setup the rail and Makita 40 volt plunge saw as provided in the instruction manual. A small portion of the rail rubber edge was cut away in the process of the first cut. Examinning the cut revealed a very smooth and an accurate cut. I am very happy with both the 55” Makita rail and the Makita 6-1/2” 40 Volt plunge saw. This combination make for the smoothest and most accurate cuts I have ever seen. Far superior to the Craftsman table saw I use to have.
