Product Overview

More homes and businesses in the U.S. are protected by a GAF roof than by any other product. We are the leading roofing manufacturer in North America.

Nothing protects quite like a roof.

Nothing protects quite like a roof. That's why millions of Americans live, work, and play under quality products from North America's largest roofing manufacturer - GAF.

Always have a balanced ventilation system. The amount of exhaust ventilation should always be equal the amount of intake ventilation.

How much Ventilation do I need?

Include 1 sq. ft. of attic ventilation, evenly split between intake and exhaust, for every 300 sq. ft. of attic floor space.

Choosing the right attic ventilation for your home is very important. GAF offers a great selection of Master Flow and Cobra products.

What type of Ventilation do I need?

Review the ventilation options below to determine the best fit for your home application.

Available in both roof mount and gable mount, power attic vents exhaust the greatest volume of hot and/or humid air from the attic.

High efficiency Electric, Solar or Hybrid

Quickly removes large volumes of heat and moisture from your attic.

Cooler external air enters through vents lower on the eaves or soffits that “pushes” the hot/moist attic air out of the vents higher on the roof.

No electricity required

Allows excess heat and moisture to escape your attic without the need for electric hook-up.

Wind Turbines utilize the wind to pull heat and moisture from your attic and acts as a static exhaust vent when wind is still.

Wind-powered, smooth, and quiet operation

Utilizes the wind to pull heat and moisture from attic; acts as a static exhaust vent when wind is still.

Located at the lowest part of the roof, intake vents are a critical part of the attic ventilation system, allowing fresh air to flow into the attic

The most overlooked and critical part of attic ventilation

Allows cooler, fresh air to enter the attic at/near the soffits driving heat and moisture out higher exhaust vents.

Your home offers warning signs when your attic isn’t properly ventilated. You may recognize some of these signs in your own home.

5 Warning Signs

Here are some poor attic ventilation warning signs that you may recognize:

A possible cause of higher cooling costs could be insufficient attic ventilation, requiring the cooling system to run excessively.

1. Increased energy costs

Excess attic heat can cause your cooling system to work harder, raising your energy costs.

If you see that your shingles are dry or breaking, that could mean you have inadequate attic ventilation or you may need a new roof

2. Curling/cracking shingles

Inadequate ventilation can cause your roof shingles to curl and crack.

Moisture in the attic can become trapped and condense on rafters and insulation if not insulated properly. This can potentially increase energy costs

3. Roof decking moisture

Excess attic moisture can drip into attic insulation reducing effectiveness, even damaging ceilings below.

Stains or mold growth inside your home may be caused by inadequate attic ventilation. Excessive moisture in the attic allows mold and mildew to thrive

4. Attic mold/mildew

Excessive moisture can cause dangerous mold and mildew causing additional concerns.

Ice damming can cause water to enter the attic and house if you don’t have an adequate shingle underlayment or if the flashing has deteriorated.

5. Winter ice dams

Ice dams can cause expensive leaks and damage in attics, as well as living spaces.

The GAF Master Flow roof-mounted Wi-Fi Power Attic Vent allows you to control your attic vent from your couch. Is the fan speed variabley controlled?

Asked by Will August 8, 2018

This can be controlled by your smart phone by controlling the temperature.

Does this attic fan need to be grounded?

Asked by DC February 10, 2019

Asked by KingGarlicI July 31, 2018

The first connection should be with wifi. Check and update versions and then you can connect Bluetooth. The connections both wifi and Bluetooth will be bas d on signal strength of your network but I can control mine from downstairs or upstairs. The techs are great if you have questions or help setting up or identifying device.

As of September 2018, two (or more) were available at the Newbury Park (Los Angeles area) California Home Depot.

Does the fan have a humidistat so it can be used in the winter

Asked by Jima January 17, 2019

I guess yes.

How much wiring if any is on the motor?

Asked by danl July 22, 2018

There's about 12-14" of armored connecting the motor with the controller box. The controller box has a short (6") pigtail of stranded wire, and a punched-out hole for connecting hardware. There's a green ground screw that's only accessible if you open the controller box. Inside the controller box, there's a screw terminal connector for the hot and return wires; I removed the pigtail and installed 12-gauge solid wire into the screw terminals with no difficulty.

What is the Model Number of Humidistat/Thermostat? Is it a separate manually controllable unit......

Asked by Tyger August 10, 2018

I don't see anything you can use to manually set the thermostat/humidistat. There is a small box wired to the motor. The control box contains some wiring and circuitry, and likely the thermostat/humidistat. However, you can't manually adjust the settings and are required to use the mobile app for setting those.

Asked by Lbates April 8, 2020

No it is not, this fan has a single speed one direction motor. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please call Technical Services at 800-211-9612.

When will blue tooth be available ??

Asked by Jnch June 17, 2018

I bought one of these recently and Bluetooth works great. You have to connect via Wi-Fi the first time so that the firmware can be updated. After that though you can select either option to connect.

Worth every penny
This is an update to my previous review of the GAF Vent WiFi Fan I still recommend it. I had a misunderstanding though. The 3 operating modes, 1.temperature controlled 2. Timer controlled 3. Simple on/off . Each of these settings DO STAY on even if the Android device is disconnected. ( meaning the fan DOES stay on, even if a Android device control indicates it is not connected, and active. Or if you change the WiFi and BlueTooth setting to another app on your device. I mistakenly stated in my previous review that it dropped the device control, and the fan shut off when changing apps, or Wifi/BlueTooth settings, that was not correct. So, here is the point, the fan does stay on the last control setting, (working/not working) even though it does not indicate the device is actively available, untill you open the app, restablish WiFi/BlurTooth connection and THEN you can change settings, ie. turn it on/off. So, in conclusion, my attic temperature has dropped from 130+ degrees to only a few degrees above ambient day time temperatures. And when the sun goes down, it is as cool inside as it can be. The AC copes very well now, very comfortable at night. I get full sun all day. If you use this product, you will not be disappointed, I'm not smart, and got it to work with a little patience.

After reading other reviews here, do this. I cut a extension cord to connect the unit to power BEFORE installing this fan. Be patient, this fan is not "plug and play" it takes a little time to get going, but, with practice and thought, it does work as advertised! Use common sense, avoid unsafe situations if you try the following. 1. First I installed the GAF app on my Android devices, tablet and phone, from Google Play Store, just search "GAF" it's the first one listed. 2. Starting with one device at a time, turn on BOTH wifi AND bluetooth 3. With power supplyed the fan, wait for the fans micro processor to start 4. The GAFVent_241118 will show up as an 'available' connection.(note: The GAF connection will only function by itself. If multiple wifi connections or live wifi apps are on, the GAF will not work.) 5. Also turn the phone or tablet's BlueTooth. 6. The first prompt will be to up date firm ware. It is necessary to do this first. 7. The prompt for either a WiFi or BlueTooth connection will be visible, depending on either option you choose. 8. Play around with all the app connection and control features, you will get it, I did, and I'm not smart! But, do it before you install it in the roof, because you won't know if any thing is happening. Of course be carefull, the blades are exposed somewhat if it comes on. There are more nuisances which are too detailed to put here. But, if I worked for GAF, they would be. ATTENTION GAF, you have a really good product here, really serious ack of information to use it. GET a VIDEO for installation for us, you will sell very well, and get rid of these bad reviews!

Moves a lot of air. The product was delivered crushed on the top. I tried to smooth it out as much as I could but the fan is still out of balance and I can feel the shaking on the floor below.

The fans are loud. I went from the Junk US Sunlight Solar/DC ones which were quiet, but failed in only 18 months of use. I installed these and they are noisier. Hoping they are a little more reliable. The APP needs work. Does not remember when you name the device (I installed 4 of these) and always a pain to connect vis Bluetooth or WiFi. When the APP does work, its nice that you can turn on and off. I stopped the auto mode because they are just too loud. Sounds like the washer on a high spin cycle.....

The app and wifi is terrible
It only allows direct connection from your phone using the default password. Can you say security risk? I'm very disappointed they need to just open source the thing and let the Home automation community build a better solution. Also the fan vibrates pretty bad and needs dampeners and tweaking/balancing to make it even tolerable.

RUN, do not walk away from this device because.....

.....the premium we pay for the "app" is useless/worthless, unless you have the appetite to continually re-connect to the fan. Once it's up in your attic and you find out the app doesn't work intuitively, AT ALL, it's too late. The app needs a ton of upgrades and attention from the manufacturer who must think, obviously, that they're the only game in town. And guess what? Right now, they are. Stay away. Not worth the aggravation.
