According to the manufacturer there is no way to reset the combination. We had the same problem and had to buy a "NEW" lock.

open with current combination, turn dial on bottom to set, set new combination turn dial back
The instructions are on the package. If you no longer have the package, you need to first open the lock (initial setting is 0000) then there is a coin slot on the bottom, turn that to the indicator then set the numbers you want in line with the white marks, turn the coin slot back & close the lock.
There is a slot on the back that you turn with a coin. Very easy to set your own combination but the locks didn't last long before no longer functioning.
Here is a video & Manuals to set your own combo. Manuals & Downloads: http://cdn.large.masterlock.com/masterlock/resources/documents/pdfs/1535D_Instruction_sheet.pdf Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ponCPvhWUI
Put the combination in from factory 0000, and then turn the bottom screw insert clockwise and change the combo and then rotate if back counter clockwise and your are done...takes about 5 seconds
the shackle would probably fit most zippers but not being a TSA grade lock, you run the risk of the lock or zippers being cut. Plus it is rather bulky and does not sit flat. i would suggest a different lock but this is a very youth friendly lock and easier for small ones to operate.
No, not unless you have a suitcase for an elephant... too big for this purpose.
This lock is recommended for cabinets, storage lockers, and athletic lockers. We recommend checking out our TSA-Approved luggage locks: http://www.homedepot.com/s/master%2520lock%2520tsa?NCNI-5
Sure, but it might be a little bit big on a suitcase
It has a fairly thick shaft. Much larger shaft than the luggage locks I own. Depends on the size of the opening on your luggage.
