Hello! For use in a windy area, we would recommend filling your planter with water (Essentially utilizing the self watering system) and/or using a thin layer of a heavier filler such as pea gravel.

Hi Margaret, Yes, you can absolutely use the Fairfield 20x20 planter, or any Mayne planter without using the reservoir feature. Simply drill a couple of drainage holes in the bottom of the planter and you're all set. Just keep in mind that once drainage holes are drilled in the bottom of the planters, the water reservoir and self-watering feature will be permanently removed.
