Drop Head broke before it cleared a 2 inch shower drain p trap. Had to crawl under house and cut p trap out and install a new one. Then we ran the snake again. As soon as we hit blockage in a 2 inch line the cable broke about six inches from the snake head. We again had to cut away old pipe and recover the broken snake. These cables have a 2 year warranty and unfortunately Milwaukee seems to be lagging in the request to warrant the snake cable which is 3/8 inch x 75 foot. So we not only lost time and money on the job, but looks like we will be out another $250 for a new cable and drop head. The machine itself is powerful and quiet. Easy to load and unload off truck. We didn’t get the power head auto feed as it was lost in transit and Home Depot was good about restoring our money to our card. So we were old school hand feeding the snake. Over 30 years experience plumbing and have never broken a cable. Maybe Home Depot will send us a new cable and talk with Milwaukee for us. We use nothing but Milwaukee battery driven tools and love them. Table saws, compound mitre saws, sawmills, and others.

        Broke twice on first job
Ordered and received the M18 Drum machine with 3/8 x 75 foot of cable. Very first job was a shower drain. The drop head broke at roll pin before we were able to get through the 2 inch p-trap. This is not where the clog was located. We had to go underneath the home and cut the 2 inch trap out to recover the drop head attachment. We then noticed while underneath the home that further downstream incorrect fittings were installed, so we cut them out and installed long radius elbows and 2 inch combies. Back to snaking. The machine runs great. Very quiet and powerful. Our powerhead drive has not arrived yet, so we were hand feeding the cable. We were able to get to the clog in the 2 inch lateral off the 3 inch main. About 20 feet from shower drain. The machine barley torqued and the brand new cable snapped about 8 inches back from attachment. Once again we had to crawl underneath and remove a section of waste line to remove the broken 3/8 cable. Wow. So now our new machine is useless until we get another cable. If you look at the break closely you can see interior rust on the break. The shiny part is the fresh break. Cable was bad from factory. I have over 30 years experience and have never broken a snake cable. Wonder if Milwaukee will back the two year warranty they advertise for their cables. Mark

Works well for larger diameter pipes but is a challenge to use on smaller 1 ½” pipes
I was hoping to clear out our kitchen sink drain which is original to our home that was built in the 1940s. The drainpipes are a combination of 1 ½” galvanized and cast-iron fittings and I replaced the section from the sink to the wall with ABS pipe recently and was hoping to snake the section in the wall and beneath the slab. Unfortunately, the 3/8” cable was just too inflexible to get into the 90-degree wall fitting (even after removing the horizontal sink drainpipe connected to the wall fitting) and I resorted to our manual drain snake with a ¼” cable which had better flexibility. The second issue I ran into was that the 1 /2” drop head bulb auger actually broke inside a straight section of 1 ½” pipe. I was feeding the auger into the air vent pipe for the kitchen sink and felt it bind. When I pulled the cable out, the auger had broken at the knuckle joint. Fortunately, it is stuck in the air vent pipe and not in the drain section otherwise it would likely trap debris and cause blockages. As a result of the above issues, I ended up using an enzyme-based liquid to free up the black grease sludge and improve the draining of our kitchen sink instead. The drain drum kit comes with a rechargeable M18 4 Amp hour 18-volt battery which seemed plenty powerful enough to get the cable rotating without too much resistance from whatever is inside the drainpipe. The direction of rotation is set using a switch beside the battery and the cable rotation is switched on/off using a waterproof foot switch. Assembly is very quick and only requires you to insert the axle for the transport wheels and clip with wheels into place using the supplied circlips. The 3/8” 75’ long cable is pre-installed and the cable is treated to prevent corrosion. I was able to carry the drum kit onto the roof of our home quite easily so that I could snake the air vent pipe, but it is pretty heavy at around 60 lbs. There are four tools supplied including a drop head bulb auger, a funnel head, a spade bit and a C cutter which will all fit in 1 ½” diameter pipes. The tools are easily interchanged using a beveled pin key. Also included is a carabiner that helps keep all the tools and the pin key in one place so you don’t lose them. It is quite intuitive which is a good thing since there was no instruction booklet included in the carton. You can get an auto feed accessory for the cable and if you are going to use this kit regularly, I would recommend this. I ran into an issue when I was reversing the cable out of the drain and the spade bit snagged. Before I knew it, the cable was starting to twist and managed to snag one of my gloved fingers which was pretty painful. When you take your foot off the switch, the drum still has momentum and doesn’t stop immediately. The auto feed is available from Home Depot and is Milwaukee part number 47-53-2816. The tools come with a 5-year warranty, the battery with a 3-year warranty and the drum kit with a 2-year warranty.

Perfect combination of power and weight.
As many of you know clogged drains are never fun to deal with. I manage the facility's of a company that has a few locations and clogged drains are happen more than they should. We have always just rented one until now as last time we have a clogged drain is was at night and could not get one till the next day. I realized it was time to just give the Milwaukee cordless drum machine and try. I was totally impressed with the build quality and simplicity for the auger. Just install the wheels and charge the battery and your ready. As the auger comes it's manually feed you can purchase and auto feeder but unless you use it a ton the manual style is perfect. The auger being cordless will make the jobs much faster and cleaner by not having to drag the cord to and outlet. The power seems on par of the plug in style but the Milwaukee is much lighter. Next time I have a clogged drain I'm ready to get the job done faster and cleaner . Milwaukee makes some of the most innovative cordless tools and and never disappoint on quality.

Good power and a long cable
I live in an older house with galvanized drain pipes that like to catch debris and clog regularly. After paying several times for a plumber to come out and clear the drain I figured it was time to just do it my self. Not having to find an outlet and run an extension cord gets you started and cleaned up faster. This is a hand feed drum with an optional attachment for power feed which after using I think I am going to get the power feed head. The attachments will deal with most types of clogs from hair and grease to smaller roots. If you house is older like mine being able to solve a plumbing issue that always seems to happen on Sunday evening without paying for an off hours callout will quickly pay for the tool.

            Helpful tool.Maintenance could be easier.
I’ve used this thing to clear a few drains. The only things that sets this tool apart from say a drill powered auger are the battery powered motor turns the cable in forward or reverse using a belt (instead of a cordless drill), you can use a very long cable (like the 3/8” 75’ cable included for 1.5”-3” drains), and even swap drums and cables (it can handle up to 100’ of 3/8” cable or 75’ of 1/2” cable). Since it’s really heavy (~65 lbs), the wheels, which you have to attach to the axel using the included “c” clips, along with the collapsible handle make it easier to move about and even up and down stairs. The collapsible handle also makes it easier to store and fit into the back of the truck/van. I’ve used this for a few jobs so far and it’s easy to use. The motor doesn’t bog down but after a few deep clogs there was some loss of power when the included 4Ah battery got to one bar (I didn't start with a full charge... my bad). Luckily I had more batteries. There’s onboard storage for the foot pedal, but for some reason the pedal and cord fall off the holster frequently. Perhaps I’m not placing it and wrapping the cord properly. The foot pedal is helpful in that it allows use of both hands when feeding or pulling the cable. When the pedal is released, the drum stops spinning very quickly, which is important to avoid snapping off the cable, damaging the pipe, or injuring yourself. One of my Milwaukee cut proof gloves (I didn’t have my leather gloves) got snagged on the spinning cable and started wrapping my fingers around the cable. Had the drum not stopped quick enough when I released the pedal my fingers would have been crushed. My fault for not remembering my leather gloves, but I’m very thankful for how quickly the break engages. There’s a helpful plug on the drum to drain residual liquids or stick in a garden hose to wash it; however, there’s no quick way to open the drum for wiping or drying it out. You have to pull out 75’ of cable, remove the drum with an 11/16” wrench and 5/16” allen key, and remove ten M5 screws. Too bad it’s not as easy as the Milwaukee backpack sectional to pop open. It seems like an oversight since you should drain and dry the inside of the drum after every job. At a minimum, be sure to clean the cable when finished. And while the cable is “corrosion resistant,” it’s important to keep it oiled to prevent rust in the long term. Also, I was a bit surprised this thing is a manual feed like my drill powered auger. Seventy five feet of cable is a lot to manually feed/pull (100’ is worse) although the automatic feed cable drive assembly is available for purchase separately. Bummer! The kit includes one 4.0 Ah battery (Being cordless is nice!), a standard charger (Why not a Rapid charger?) and 4 cable head attachments that get stored on an included key ring you can put around the handle. I would have appreciated some onboard storage for the attachments instead of a jangling key ring, but it’s nothing an old drill bit case and some industrial strength Velcro can’t solve. Overall this is a decent tool; however, if you don’t need long cables or need to unclog a drain in a tight space, there are more compact solutions to consider.

            Fantastic!
Great smaller drain cleaning machine! This machine has the power to do the job. I had it out of the box and set up in less than 10 min. One of the best things is that this runs off M18 batteries and if you have Milwaukee tools you likely have M18 batteries. It comes with all the heads necessary to get it done and moving it around with the wheels is so easy too. Does a great job on 1 1/2 inch to 4 inch drain lines Comes with 3/8 inch cable , funnel head, drop head, 1 1/2 in spade bit and 1 1/2 in C cutter for roots. Battery and charger also included. Best used in floor drains, bathtubs and showers and kitchen and bathroom sinks. Great Warranty too!

            I do love this tool!
This Milwaukee M18 Cordless Drain Cleaning Drum Machine Kit is a superb tool. Being cordless means no need to haul an extension cord; one less thing to bother with. The handle folds down out of the way for storage. The included wheels must be installed but everything else is completely ready for work. The handle and wheels m,ake moving it easy. The handle unfolds and folds easily without tools. It locks securely in place. The foot pedal control has a storage place on the back of the machine. The M18 battery locks into its slot from the front side. Mine came with a 4.0 AH M18 battery as well as a charger that does both the M12 and m18 batteries. The front panel has the on-off switch with right or left hand rotation selected with the slide switch. Best of all it works and works well.

            An awesome drain cleaning machine
The Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 3/8 in. x 75 ft. Cable Cordless Drain Cleaning Drum Machine Kit is awesome. It weighs in at 65 pounds, uses any Milwaukee M18 18-volt Lithium-Ion battery, and essentially can be used anywhere. It includes wheels for easy mobility. The 75 feet long drain cable can service from 1 1/2 inches to 4 inches diameter drain lines. It comes with a charger and a 4 Ah 18-volt battery but any Milwaukee M18 battery from any Milwaukee product will work on this unit. This unit also includes 4 cable ends to be used while unplugging the drains: Medium Funnel Head, Medium Drop Head, 1 1/2 inch Spade Bit, and 1 1/2 inch C-Cutter. The Electric Foot Pedal is on a removeable 6 feet long cord so you can place it wherever it’s convenient for the job. There is a forward/reverse control switch on the front of the unit and a tensioner control on the backside of the unit. The handle locks in place when moving the unit and it will fold down and locks for storage. The unit comes fully assembled except for the wheels. Installing the wheels was a quick and easy job. The Drum Machine works very well on drains. I fully recommend it. Made in China.
