Very Smooth Track Saw and Great for Making Precise Cuts
I have always wanted a cordless track saw and decided to obtain the new Milwaukee M18 Fuel Track Saw Kit with PackOut Box. First thing I did was obtain a Track for the Saw, and calibrate it to avoid any wobble. My first cut was cropping off a door bottom, and the saw never slowed down under load. The cut is very smooth and accurate, with no frayed edges. It's perfect for use when very precise cuts are needed. The dust collection system worked much better than I expected, especially when coupled with a vacuum and hose. I really like the score cutand depth adjustment features, and there are lots of adjustment knobs that are intuitive to use. The customized PackOut Box has foam cutouts and is great for storage of the saw and accessories. The saw performs flawlessly and should hold up well for both DIY and Professional Use.

Really liking the Track Saw. Battery lasted for about 2 days with regular use. Adjusting the saw to match the track was quick and simple. Dust collection with the bag is alright, would be much better with a dust extractor.

      Pricey but great
I have debated back and forth between a table saw and a track saw for my home diy tool set up for a while. Ultimately, for me I want/need both, but the bulk of storing and cleaning a quality table saw in my two car garage (with cars parked in it) just wasn't going to work. Some day, when I have a separate shop or have a 3 car garage I will get that table saw, but for now a track saw will have to do! After much research and debate I went with the track saw that fits part of the batteries I already have and from a brand that I know and trust. I have tools from HD made by the bright green brand and the orange brand to go along with my Milwaukee tools. Ideally I would switch to all one brand, but as a seeds reviewer I have been lucky enough to try multiple and Milwaukee is always top notch! This track saw is well made and has good features for at home/diy. I am very impressed with the ease of setup and use. I was able to get it dialed in straight by following the instructions. I cut the rubber edge piece easily and cut my first couple of plywood sheets with virtually 0 tear out using the provided blade. The depth is easy to set and helps you stay safe. My one complaint (as with all track saws) is that I wish it came with tracks and clamps to hold the track in place. As is, I had to get tracks separately and they are PRICEY. The storage the saw comes in is definitely high quality, but is overly bulky for what is needed. I have decided to store a couple of my other milwaukee tools with the saw so they take up less space, but this does make the box very heavy. They could have shrunk the box in height by a few inches as is and if they modified the inside configuration slightly couldve saved another inch. Overall this is a great machine for diy and at home use with good features and tons of power. Will it cut 10 sheets of 3/4 ply into 3 inch strips on one battery? NO, but that is not the purpose. It will make multiple high quality cuts, including through thick hard wood. It will work great for most purposes outside of a major furniture shop. Is it pricey? Yes, but I still recommend it because the quality is great!

      Perfect Table Saw Alternative
As someone who’s heard horror stories and seen first had how quickly table saws can go wrong, looking into a track saw was a top priority. When I heard about track saws and how they are essentially a safer and more portable table saw, I was all about it! Since this was the tool only kit, I went ahead and picked up the Milwaukee 55" track saw rail for the absolute perfect pairing. The 55" track is of decent length and covers 90% of the projects I would use the saw for. If I wanted to expand the track length, there are kits available that will allow you to connect more than one track together to achieve your desired length. Installing the blade was slightly more involved than your regular circular saw, but once you understand the process it becomes quite easy. This is one of those tools where you really need to sit down and read the manual to appreciate the complexity and utility that this tool offers. The instructions are thorough and cover every subject in detail. The saw features a multitude of adjustments. You can adjust your blade speed from 2500 to 5600 rpm. Bevel cut range of 0 to 45 degrees with the ability to override to -1 to 48 degrees. With a 22.5-degree bevel stop which can be engaged/disengaged and an adjustable cutting depth gauge with a max cutting depth of 2-1/4”. The saw can be used with or without a track, however using the track saw provided fast and accurate cuts with minimal effort. Attaching the saw to the track rail was as simple as lining it up with the recessed track and dropping it into place on the rail. Adjustment knobs to secure the saw to the track are located on the saw, as well as an anti-tip feature to help prevent the saw from popping off the track when doing bevel cuts. I did serval test cuts with the bevel maxed out and didn’t feel like the saw was going to tilt, though I would highly recommend making sure the track is clamped down appropriately when doing bevel cuts to prevent any tilt overs. Another neat feature of the track saw is the ability to make precision plunge cuts. The saw features markers etched on the edge of the unit which indicate the location and the length of the plunge cut relative to the depth set for the blade. There is a handy chart located in the instructions which provides the information, though it would have been neat to have a quick reference guide etched on the unit by the plunge markers. Cutting wood was quick, simple, and accurate. Most impressive was how clean the cuts were. There is also a scoring “mode” to reduce splintering of the wood. The front sights are easy to see and use to line up your cuts, however I found the rear sights a bit difficult to see as the vacuum port essentially blocks the view to it. As far as dust collection goes, you have two options, one is to use the included dust bag which worked well, or you have the option to attach any shop vac into the dust outlet without the need of any proprietary adapters. Honestly one of the things that surprised me the most, other than how smooth and effortlessly the saw cut, was how quiet the unit as whole was when operating. I do wish the track saw would have at least come with a storage bag of sorts for storage when not in use. Anyone who doesn’t have a track saw in their collection of tools is really doing themselves a disservice. I have finally been able to tackle serval of my projects that have been on the back burner as I didn’t want to deal with a table saw, as well as now having the option to quickly and easily take the saw to off site projects for on the go work.

A Game Changer--Best New Tool in my Shop
This is a game changing tool for me. I have a large 240V cabinet table saw, but no room for table extensions. That means that it is really iffy to align the edge of a large sheet of plywood with the fence without a couple of helpers. Crosscutting is a no-no even with helpers. I've been using homemade wooden circular saw guides to break down the 4'x 8' sheets into manageable smaller pieces that I then run through the saw for size and square. The other thing I do on my table saw is cut 2x6 pine at a 45 degree angle for French Cleats for hanging heavy items. Cutting down or cross-cutting large sheets of plywood and making crazy French Cleats are all significantly easier and safer using a proper track saw. What you need to know is the Milwaukee 2831-20 (Tool Only) is THE proper track saw for the serious DIY. The Milwaukee addresses all the pain points without compromise, except one, Blue Tooth Vacuum Auto Start Syncing. The Milwaukee is a premium track saw--it has the power, the features and ease of use of much more expensive European Saws without the eye watering price. The entry and mid-level saws are not up to the same game. I wanted to see what would happen if I cut a 4'x 8' sheet of 3/4" plywood without clamping the track. (The Milwaukee is compatible with other tracks--do your research. The anti-tip feature is exclusive to Milwaukee track.) Mind you I've been using circular saws and wooden saw guides for years. My son taking the photos witnessed my amazement at how smoothly and effortlessly I was able to slice that 3/4" solid ply sheet. I had two fingertips lightly on the front handle. I got a flashlight and my wife out to do a feel test on the cut edge. It was unusually smooth with no tear out on the edges and absolutely shocked me. Milwaukee designed the Riving Knife to raise up or down with the blade. You do NOT need to remove the Riving Knife to make a plunge cut as other saws do. When hooked up to a vacuum the Milwaukee is almost dust free. Enough that you could work indoors with this saw. Changing the blade is easy. The saw comes with a 40 tooth Milwaukee blade that is not the standard "throw away" blade. (I had purchased an aftermarket blade that I won't be needing anytime soon.) The Hex Tool is stored securely onboard in the handle and there is no need to take any panels out to swap out the blade. The Shoe and Body Panels are Magnesium. The Cut Depth Scale has a side for With Track and a side for Without Track. Very easy to read and use the Thumb Slider Button to set the depth. The Bevel Cut Scale is easy to read and use. There are 0-22.5-45 stops/détentes and an override for -1 to 48 degrees. There is a Scoring Cut Stop for laminates. The saw has a Variable Speed Dial. I believe this is a the "just right" tool for the serious DIY. I would hold off buying one of the cheaper saws and spend the extra $100 to get this saw. I already had 6.0 Amp Hour M18 Lithium-ion no-memory batteries from other Milwaukee M18 tools. I did my research and bought non-Milwaukee tracks and track clamps. The Milwaukee Tracks have the exclusive Anti-Tip feature. The Milwaukee 6 1/2" thin kerf saw blades specifically designed for this saw are winners, though the 20mm arbor isn't unusual and there are aftermarket blades. Though I have to say, the 40 tooth Milwaukee blade surprised me at how easily and smoothly it cut. Wow! 5 Stars for the best new tool I've had in my shop in years.

      Professional tool
I got the M18 Fuel Plunge Track Saw / Bare Tool, so I also purchased the Milwaukee 31” track since I rarely break down large sheet goods I did not need longer tracks. I got this saw primarily for making plunge cuts – my luck using a circular saw for plunge cuts has always been iffy, but the saw along with the 31” track makes this easy – the track edge along with the tick marks on the side of saw base makes it easy to locate the saw for plunge cuts. With the depth stop controlling the plunge cut – the cuts are clean and controllable. I had no problem cutting through ½” plywood & ¾” OSB. The dust bag did a great job of keeping the dust under control. Although this has a 6 step speed control dial, I just left it set on the fastest setting. This is my first track saw – poking around got me through the basics, but you really need to read the manual to understand the fine points you would otherwise miss like the score cut switch and a splinter guard which replaces the clear window – something nice to know but I did not need for plunge cuts. The base is very impressive, not the usual flat plate, with the eggcrate design, there is no chance of flexing. One part of the base plate design not explained are the channels at the front and back with threaded hole (for a lock knob?) – looks like it could accommodate rip fences.

Amazing track saw, worth the wait
The “lock-off” button makes it easy to install the included blade. The scoring cut stop feature is very cool. When set it makes a 1.5mm deep scoring cut to help achieve a splinter-free cut. I didn’t know it could do this until I flipped through the manual trying to figure out what all the buttons are for. The battery placement is convenient and has good balance without being in the way. Seems to be as powerful as a corded saw. The depth gauge is easy to use once you know the 2 hash marks is what to use when the saw is being used with a track and the single mark is what to use when the saw is not being used with a track. Good precious right out of the box and has a bunch of micro adjustment options. The saw is very quiet and smooth to operate. The only feature that seems to be missing is wireless vacuum control. Comes with a 5-year tool warranty.

      Worth every penny
The features on this saw are incredible. I LOVE the scoring feature for delicate veneered plywood! The bevel tipping tab is genius, the dust collection even with the splinter guard is impeccable, the brake and noise level are perfect, but most of all, cross cutting plywood with zero tear out is a dream come true. This just made my life so much easier!! Photo attached is of a crosscut piece of 3/4 birch l. Zero tear out baby

        Impressed
I had another genetic track saw, but found that it left horrible tear out on plywood and had far too much play even after tightening down. This one on the other hand leaves perfect edges on my cabinet grade plywood, and has no play after very easy adjustments. I do recommend the high output batteries for this though. Mine was on the charger when I wanted to rip an edge off of a 2” slab, and the regular 5ah battery overheated after about 2’. High output powered right through after it charged up though. Absolutely fantastic tool!

          Improper packaging
Saw is fine, but the 7 silca gel pouches in the box is placed in a plastic zip lock bag. How are they going to absorb moisture when they are in a sealed bag? They are sure not candys for treats.
