A:  Hi Will! Our ONE-KEY TICK Tool and Equipment Tracker (48-21-2000) is an equipment tracker that is powered by our ONE-KEY app. This is all part of our comprehensive system for construction inventory management. You can learn more about ONE-KEY here - https://onekey.milwaukeetool.com/

A:  I don’t think the device itself records anything. Rather the location is gathered by what app reads the device nearby. So if “Joe” has the One-Key app on his phone and the tick walks by “Joe” three the app on “Joe’s” phone can report to the internet its location and that it saw the tick. I think this is how it works…

              Last seen 1969... wait what
I bought a dozen plus of these when they came out. I was so excited they might change the market, especially if they could partner up with other bluetooth trackers to help accuracy and network size. So far none of them have worked correctly, in the app it claims my table saw was last seen off the coast of Africa.. roughly 47 years before the Milwaukee tick hit shelves. Not sure if I recieved a bad batch or how i could have messed up set up. But I don't know they're even worth updating the batteries as they go bad. I hadn't set high standards for these, i knew they could be a joke, but they've never pinged a correct location or time even once.

                love Milwaukee but.....
The tick is super easy to set up and you can make it work on almost anything. however the app does not perform as it says it will. I have to manually refresh the location of the item I am testing (my Milwaukee lunch cooler) otherwise the locations are not updated at all. also I was not able to get the tick to locate at all using another phone with the log In information. unfortunately the Milwaukee tick is not a good fit for my equipment tracking needs.

                  Location Updates
My TICK locations only update every few days. For example, one of my vehicles was in the driveway 2 days ago. I know for a fact it is about 75 miles away from here and even with refreshing the location, logging out and back in, deleting the app, and reinstalling, and anything else i can think of does not work. It just says, “Last seen December 24th” it is now December 27th...

                    Tool and equipment LOCATOR
The Milwaukee One Key Tick might be better described as a locator rather than a tracker. I can understand the intent is to track your stuff but this device doesn't actually show the tracking such as the route of your Milwaukee "TICKED" item, it just shows last location that picked up by an app enabled device. Another misunderstanding is the GPS used to locate. The Milwaukee Tick Tool doesn't use GPS, only Bluetooth. The GPS is used in combination with the Milwaukee One-Key app to show the last location on Google map. The location is determined by the last communication with a Bluetooth One-Key enabled device. Other than those misunderstandings, the Milwaukee Tick tool is a great way to locate your stuff. I installed a Tick Tool on a set of keys for equipment that has shared operators. Also installed a Tick Tool on a multi-meter that is sometimes in the truck or sometimes in the toolbox in the shop. I don't use the Milwaukee Tick Tool necessarily to thwart against theft, rather just to find stuff that gets misplaced. That part Milwaukee Tick Tool does well. The App is OK. User friendly enough to get around. Worked well with my Android phone. Although I'm not crazy about the password algorithm for Milwaukee account setup. Other thoughts on use for Milwaukee Tick Tool: - school or work backpacks - someone that often looses their keys - bicycle at campus parking - the dog that occasionally escapes (just a thought - never tried) - stuff your kids borrow

The good, the bad and the ugly
It is very important to know how these work before deciding to integrate them in to your asset management workflow. Each tag has Bluetooth, just Bluetooth. The tag communicates with your cell phone, and your cell phone calculates the tags location before uploading that data to the cloud. As well as communicating with your cell phone, it also communicates with any other cell phone that has the Milwaukee smartphone app installed - the idea being the tags location will be detected and uploaded to the cloud even if you are not close by. Your smartphone app will look for other users tags and report their location too (don't worry, users can only see their own tags location). An ideal workflow would be using these on a larger job site where many of your staff have the app installed, giving a 360 coverage of the whole area. If your device goes missing, then unless you or someone else with the application installed is not within 100 feet of it you will not find out where it is. You can always find its last reported location, however old that is. In my opinion these tags are purely for tracking and offer little protection against theft. The tags are easy to remove, and even if you epoxy them in place, the top cover twists off to replace the battery. Removing the top cover by simply twisting it and then popping out the battery will render the tracker inoperable. If you misplace tools then this is the tracker for you, it is not going to allow you to track their location once they have been removed from within 100ft of your smartphone or any other smartphone running the app. As they are so easy to disable (remove the battery) I affixed mine in not so obvious locations - under the seat of my zero turn mower; in the engine bay of the skid steer, under the hood of the RAM and Tundra pickups.

                    Really works!
I have to say the only downside to this product I've found is the name (ew ticks), aside from that, it actually works better than I expected it to. I put trackers in a few of my different Milwaukee tool cases, and the OneKey app tracks the locations of the tools that you coincide each tick device with complete with a GPS map to pinpoint the location which you can also swap to a satellite view. Pretty impressive tech! The devices themselves seem pretty dang sturdy, which is definitely a plus.

                    Just don't
I like Milwaukee tools for their good quality, unfortunately this item is not one of them. The Tick itself looks sturdy and may be decent quality, BUT the One-Key app that goes with it is a catastrophe! I installed the app on my Moto G4 with Android 6, so far so good. Then I had to create an account but the app told me all my email addresses were already registered!? On my laptop I was finally able to create an account and then log in on my phone. Activating the Tick in the app is a bit complicated as you have to select "other brand" instead of Milwaukee. The location shown on google maps is more than 2 blocks off from the real location, what good is that? You'll never find it that way. I have the Tick on the desk in my office, where I walk in and out a hundred times a day, but the app says "device last seen" and shows when I activated it, so it doesn't even update the location at all. Last but not least: My phone battery lasts usually about two days, but after I installed the One-Key app the battery was sucked dry after just 5 hours. App uninstalled!

                    Not Too Useful
After receiving the Tick, I downloaded the app, but couldn't get the app to work. I finally restarted my smartphone and the app began to work. I input my inventory, which amounted to the Tick device, and it showed that my "tool" was on my street. So far, so good. However, I began to notice that the app would only update once a day. I sent the Tick (tool) across town to see if I would be alerted, or if the app would track the device. No alert, no tracking. It is still somewhere on my street, apparently. In addition, the "Nearby Devices" feature on the app has never detected the Tick. It seems to be searching, but never finding. I am using an iPhone 6s with the latest update, iOS 10.2.1. I'd like for this thing to work, but it is only semi-accurate once a day, and doesn't pinpoint where the device is located.
