Q:I need to drill through brick with a basic 1/2” drill. I cannot buy a different drill. What but should I use for a 1/4 or 5/16” hole?
by|Dec 8, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  Hello - We do not recommend going through the brick with a standard drill/driver as if you do, it can damage the motor of your tool. We would strongly encourage you to use a hammer drill for this application. For brick, we do recommend our Carbide Hammer Drill Bits with POWER TIP™. The size you need is dependent on your application. - The Social Team

A:  I haven't purchased but this was the question I had as well; the answer is rather ridiculous! To poorly paraphrase "yes there are the bits listed and they're in the packaging with the other bits you receive with the purchase" amazing, the drilling depth?

Q:Can this be used in a regular drill driver for wood? The instructions indicate usage in impact drivers and hammer drill on high mode. This was the only 6 inch long drill bit set in the store, hence picked this up for primarily wood.

              Won't last a single hole
I just bought these tonight to drill into my patio deck (no rebar). After finally getting the 1st hole done after 20 minutes, the bit was all worn out. It should take this much effort to drill a single hole.

                Carbide Bits
Very much worth the money for these drill bits. Arrived quickly and on time just as promised. I had a steel screw that had stripped in a wood chuck and was not able to drilled by my other non-carbide drill bits. These made short work of removing the screw without damage to the chuck parts. New screws installed back in business. This chuck is over twenty years old, has seen a lot of usage. This chuck is not even made any more, wanted to keep. Definately recommend these to be purchased.

                  Fast change carbide tipped drills
These bits can be used in either a standard drill or a fast change snap-in system. The Carbide tips are large and look like they could be re-sharpened several times if needed to extend the life of the drill bits. I needed to place an anchor in some concrete so I thought i would use these to give them a difficult test. The bit quickly worked its way into the concrete and made a nice clean hole to place my anchor. These bits would make a good choice for putting in a minimalist tool bag so you could drill into most materials with one set of bits.

                  Great Bit Set!
The Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE Carbide Multi-Material Drill Bit Set (7-Piece) is a handy and versatile bit set for drilling small to medium holes in a variety of materials. They have a hex shank, so they can be used in a hammer drill chuck or an impact driver. I used the 5/32 in my 18 V hammer drill to make holes in my poured concrete basement walls for concrete screws to go into. The bit drilled quickly and easily. This set includes 1 each of the following sizes; 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2". This is a great set of bits to own!

                  Sharp. Easy To Drill.
These multi material carbide bits are 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" and 1/2" drill bits. The part of the bit that you inset to a drill can be used on nearly all drills. These are made for extra hard surfaces like brick, concrete and drywall. It says it can do all sorts of other surfaces too. These came in handy when I need to secure cable/wire into stucco that is on the exterior of our home. It was in an area where there was a stucco top coat and concrete underneath. It worked like a charm and was so easy compared to the old bits I had.

                  Tip broke on 2nd hole.
I was using the 3/16 bit to drill a pilot hole into brick. The tip broke on the second hole. An unexpected delay for my project.

                    Poor quality
Could not drill one hole. Started with the 5/32 and as soon as it broke the surface the head broke off. The same with the 3/16. 1/4 I got the center started and thought it would eat then stopped. The bits were rounded and stopped cutting. The other two as soon as I started the bits broke in an L shape. TRASH.

Large chips in the carbide on first use. I wouldn’t recommend these unless I was unlucky enough to get a bad set

Loved the drills, loved AND hated the packaging. The packaging has great graphics, pictures to show what materials, and a graph to tell how fast you can drill 'em. But, it's a bear to get into and still preserve the information you will want to preserve; I ended up using a Dremel cut-off wheel. I recently had to anchor a canopy to studs behind a stucco wall. In the past, this required a cement drill bit and then a wood bit, but I was able to do the whole job with one bit. They've also done a fine job on brick and clay pots.
