Questions & Answers

Do you have to use a primer before applying the paint?

Asked by: Shan2006
I did not apply a primer to my cabinets. I did however clean them really good and then I used a gentle sandpaper before applying the paint. If you are painting kitchen cabinets make sure you get any grease residue off before painting as it will not adhere properly. I applied two coats and they turned out amazing!

My cabinets were dark walnut. It has been 5 months since I painted them and they are still beautiful! No bleeding or signs of the darker color showing thru at all. I would use it again.

2 qt. Titanium Infusion (White) Cabinet Paint Kit is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cabinet Paint, did the job After reading several reviews, we decided to try our luck with the paint. We have 25 year old oak cabinets that we could not afford to replace, but they definitely needed to be freshened up. The process took much longer than I thought, but I also took off every door and all the hardware. We wiped down the cabinets first. They also took more paint than we thought. We ended up ordering another paint kit and used the entire amount. All in all, it was a lengthy process but glad we did it. I also tried finding new hinges but couldn't seem to match the holes of our current ones, so we saved a lot of money by just spray painting our existing hinges. They look very nice. I did buy new pulls for each cabinet and it has given them an updated look for a fraction of the price of buying new ones.

We couldn't be happier! We did paint 3 coats, but only used one kit. We are going to use on the bathroom cabinets also. This is saving us from buying new.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage, way over priced! Get a gallon of regular wall paint it's way cheaper and looks better, wasted my money on this paint and covered it with the paint I was using on my walls then clear coated it with Rust-Oleum Gloss clear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cabinet Paint! The Titanium Infusion Cabinet Paint kit has everything you need to transform your cabinets. It contains 2 quarts of paint, 2 rollers, a 2 inch brush and two stirrers. The instructions say to lightly sand and de-gloss cabinets first and wipe them down with Windex or alcohol, to remove any greasy residue, in order for paint to adhere. It is essential for cabinets and rollers to be completely clean and dust free because even things you can't see in the air or on the roller will show up on the painted surface. Since my cabinets are oak veneer, I decided to prime them first for better coverage. It is designed to be applied in two thin coasts, and dries quickly. I actuallyued 3 or 4 coats, since I painted white over really old cabinets. The result is an even finish with a soft sheen. Another great feature of this paint is the easy water clean up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and cheap way to re-do a kitchen The roller created air bubbles so I painted it all with the brush supplied. It looks great, it was just very time consuming. It is a really inexpensive way to redo your whole kitchen (under $100 for the kit, any extra's you need like tape, sanding paper, and I got a third can of paint off Amazon in case I needed it, which I did not). You also do not have to remove to remove the cabinet doors which I loved. Kitchen was oak colored before.

In reality I only needed on kit, but I used primer. This is not a one day project if you want to make it look professional. I took all my doors off and drawers out. Wiped them down thoroughly with TSP/water mix. Let them dry, sanded every single one. using 220 on orbital sander then used tack cloth. On the cabinets I scrubbed and used sanding blocks. Day 2 started with the primer. I primered the inside portion of the doors and hanging cabinets 2x. All Doors and drawers 3 x, sanding and looking for imperfections then again primer. Primering was at least 2-3 days because I let it fully dry. ( Also have to be at the office) After all that I finally was able to use the product. Couple things to note, the brush included just throw in the trash. I used a 2" quality brush about $17, well worth it. Did not use the roller except on huge cabinet section. There are no brush marks. I did 2 coats of cabinet paint on shell and inside of doors. 3 coats on outside. Letting completely dry between. I just had new counter tops and sink/faucet installed yesterday. I couldn't be happier! Counter-top installer and plumber both way impressed thinking I hired a professional. I still need to add top coat (for durability- have grandkids) and I bought new drawer pulls and knobs that have to be installed. Getting there.. but love it! BTW the bids I received to paint cabinets averaged $3300. I did the painting for under 350, of course counter-top and faucet not included. =) Why 4 stars? Brush in kit was craptastic and if I wouldn't have used primer I would have needed a lot more cabinet paint.

Better than another brand I’d used in past. 2qt didn’t do my small kitchen though. Have old, cheep brown imitation wood cabinets. I got a good oil based primer to put down first. Doing both outside and inside doors. Still needed 2 coats of paint. Didn’t have enough. Finished the outside and about 1/3 of inside. Got a paint to match to complete the inside. Have 1/4 can left for touch ups etc on outside.
