Since this question is over a year old, I doubt willr322 is still waiting for an answer... however, I wouldn't use these for this application. Since they are above the plane of the back of the shelf, they would stand the shelf off the wall by a just noticeable amount, and make it sit at an angle against the wall. Search 'keyhole hanger' and use one of those. If you do not have a router to make a small recess for these, look into buying an appropriate size Forstner bit. It will do the trick nicely, for a fraction of the cost of a router
