Covered up bright red deck
We wanted to cover up an existing red deck painted by previous owners. We tried stripping it but it’s was not coming off. This paint in the color butternut covered it well enough. So far hasn’t peeled or flaked in the hot sun of south Florida

    A Comprehensive Review
After receiving some outrageous quotes and a very stretched contractor base, I decided to do the whole thing myself - approx 1400 sqft of 20-year old occasionally-watersealed deck. - Did the project over the course of a month (April/May) around perfect weather conditions. - Prep was Powerwashed, Stripped, Powerwashed, Cleaned, Powerwashed, and actually hit with a wire brush then vacuumed. - Painted the entire deck with a 4" brush then topped with a coarse roller. Painted all vertical services (and some rough spots) with a brush. It was absolutely backbreaking work. It came out absolutely beautiful..... and after a full Summer it still looks brand-new. Most importantly - and TBD - I hope that it lasts the 10 years advertised. Feel free to ask any questions....

Looks great. I hope it lasts. Sprayed, brushed and rolled nicely.
I purchased Olympic Maximum solid stain in the Rustic Cedar color. To me, it's a light terra cotta color. I am in CT. My deck faces 100% due south and is exposed to full, 100% south, unrelenting sun. No shade. N relief from the sun's rays. My deck is 16 years old. I have a small upper deck and wheelchair ramps to a small lower deck. I never treated my deck with anything from the time it was built...I know, VERY bad. Last year in fall, I did apply a simple 2 coats of Olympic semi transparent stain in Cedar Natural Tone to the upper deck. (That's what you'll see in the photos) but realized my deck needed a lot more intervention, so made plans to tackle it this year. In the photos you can see the deck boards under the railing have some of the new solid stain on them...couldn't help it. This was the year I knew I was going to have to rescue my deck before it was too far gone. I power washed all the old decking. Then I removed and rebuilt all the rotted railings, then replaced any seriously rotting deck boards. I started by using an airless sprayer and spraying the entire structure as much as was possible, then I hand pained other areas as necessary. I went back with a large roller and rolled a second coat on all the flat surfaces, then gave a second coat with a brush to the railings. It was a LOT of work. It is now August 1st, I started this project in the beginning of April. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this product holds up and my labors were not all in vain. The product is thick and smooth and it covered very nicely. I bought 2 five gallon buckets. I have approximately 2.5 gallons remaining. I have not gone over the upper deck's semi-transparent stain that I put on last fall. I'm afraid this product might not stick, so I'm not going to apply it this year. It doesn't t look too bad because at least it's protected and in the same 'cedar' color family. If this 54 y/o lady can do it, you can too! PS: No...you're eyes aren't deceiving you, there is one part of my railing where you might have noted the wood waved and warped terribly. I think it's 'interesting' so it's gonna stay. : )

10 years??? Lucky If get 1 full year use!!
I had another deck product on deck when I bought house previously that worked great. Wanted a new color so went with is product... Spent hundreds in materials, to do everything "according to directions".. My back deck is barely walked on. This product destroyed it. Black mold everywhere that I've never had, peeling and cracking that is inviting moisture to be trapped between it and the wood. Horrible. I could have bought a new deck!...

            Disappointed
Purchased two gallons of timberline just under 3 years ago. Looked great, now all the lumber is splitting and or rotting.

                Very Disappointed
I personally spoke with the local PPG Rep and followed his advice strictly! Built a brand new deck, let it weather for one year, cleaned the deck with Olympic Deck Cleaner, bought a pole sander and sanded the entire (16'x40') deck by hand, oh...and purchased a wood moisture meter to be sure the moisture content was below 10%. Applied two coats - 6 hrs apart and the very next year, the stain started to peel off. I spend a lot of time and money and this product produced very poor results.
