About This Product

Once the powerful fragrance of its abundant large white flowers is seen and enjoyed for the first, even the most avid gardeners are sold on planting an Otto Lueken Cherry Laurel. The delicious aroma of these linear blossoms is strongly reminiscent of both almonds and maraschino cherries. Shiny, lustrous evergreen leaves continuously add life and color to planting locations, especially in gray winter months. The leaves strongly reflect sunlight and literally brighten up landscapes by redirecting light like a mirror. Otto Lueken is especially suited to neighbor other flowers since its foliage sends extra light to brighten their color. While typical Cherry Laurels can grow quite large, Otto Lueken is a dwarfing cultivar that only reaches up to 4 ft. H. This shrub grows much more in width than height as it can reach up to an 8 ft. spread. This tendency to spread while remaining low is what has led to popularity as a hedge plant, requiring very little maintenance. This Cherry Laurel reaches up to 4 ft. in height, 8 ft. Wand lives best in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 9. Please note that Cherry Laurels are poisonous if ingested and please take care if planting in a yard around small children. With its abundance of highly fragrant and massive white blossoms, shiny evergreen leaves, as well as dwarfing qualities, Otto Lueken can be used to fill innumerable roles in a landscape beyond hedging.

Q:What is the bloom time? Does it have a long bloom season?

    Answer This Question

A:  Mine bloom around June, but I forget how long the blooms last. What I do know is that the blooms on my 3 don't last more than a few weeks. However, mine are only 2 years old.

Q:Is it deer resistant can it take some shade

      Answer This Question

A:  It is NOT deer-resistant. Deer love it along with a side-serving of hosta. It can take some shade; more in super hot areas. Keep it watered.

A:  Anecdotally, many gardeners have reported success in using cherry laurel bushes as a deer deterrent. They claim that their cherry laurel plants have remained untouched while nearby plants have been heavily damaged by deer browsing.

Plants arrived in good condition in mid-April. I put them in the ground a couple days later and they are now thriving. Since I live in Washington with above average rainfall, they're rooted rather quickly.

          Foundation plants for landscaping project.
I ordered 4 Cherry Laurel Otto Luken shrubs on-line to replace 4 Boxwood shrubs that were leggy and lifeless. I was familiar with Cherry Laurels having used them previously in my Mother’s garden and know how hardy they are. They arrived dry and a bit tattered but otherwise healthy. I planted them right away and they are doing well with new growth. They are small (one gallon) but grow quickly so they’ll soon fit in with the rest of my established landscape.

Looks like it's time to return!
Looks like it's time to return! I probably should have done it right away. Plant was surprisingly small and had yellow leaves, but I gave it a chance. Actually, new growth started but lower leaves keep turning yellow with brown spots. It's just bad and a very unfulfilled promise.

              smallest plant ever
I purchased two if these plants at $27.86 EACH and they are smaller than 8” tall. Way over priced for this super small plant. See pix and rhe box is at my foot, is 15” long and 10” wide and it delivered 2 planta in this box

                very sad sickly plants
Ugh. Well packaged, but the saddest diseased plants are now sitting on my porch. Definitely not worth $27 per plant.

The shrub arrived with many yellow leaves. The best I can tell is it was in a shipping container for 5 or 6 days. The shrub is very small and not worth the money compared to what I could spend at the local Home Depot. The shrub was not available locally. It did not smell like almonds as advertised. It wasn't fragrant at all.

                  shocked
I received my plant, and it looks like a caterpillar chewed the leaves away. then I looked clearly, and it was warm. plus the leaves some were yellowed i took them out. I am shocked. plus delivery late, too. I hope it grows when my husband plants it let's see. I will update.

                    Unhealthy - diseased
Extremely dissatisfied! The trees are small, unhealthy, and have dead leaves.

                      Shot Hole Disease
All of the four Otto Luyken laurels sent to me were filled with holes, so I did some research and see they have Shot Hole Disease. They're very sickly plants, so we'll see if I can get them healthy. Not cool Online Orchards.

This container was more like a pint than a gallon. The plant is healthy, but mighty small. It’s about the size of my hand. There is a hand trowel in the photo for scale.
