Q:How many pounds per mound
by|Mar 25, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Ortho Fire Ant Killer Mound Treatment is a mound treatment. Apply 2/3 cup of product over each mound and surrounding 3 foot diameter. We do not have additional information regarding number of mounds treated per bag. For best results, apply in cool weather (65F-80F) or in the early morning or late evening when it is cool and the ants are the most active. To maximize product performance, drench the mound with 2 gallons of water after applying. Control will be optimized by combining a broadcast application that will control foraging workers and newly-mated fly-in queens with mound treatments. Treat the entire lawn area to prevent re-infestation of fire ants in neighboring areas.

A:  Around 90 degees ants go deeper into the ground, ideally put Ortho ant killer out between 60 and 90degrees. This product I've used for years and it's great and a great price!

          by|Aug 15, 2022

A:  For best results apply Ortho Fire Ant Killer Mound Treatment when temperatures are between 65° and 80°F while it is cool and the ants are most active.

I used this product in conjunction with expensive 12 ounce Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer (the white smelly powder stuff). Per the directions, I first applied the white powder to the mound, then I applied these Ortho 3 lbs Fire Ant Killer Mound Treatment granules as directed, then I watered the two poisons in to penetrate the mound as directed. The result is a higher kill rate result than when either of these products by themselves, and I did treat all of my property as directed. It does kill all of that mound location, but new mounds do appear, I do know that it is a myth that "if you kill the queen you kill the colony", the truth is that ants cannot eat a solids they can only digest liquids. When you dig into an ant mound you will see larva creatures living down in the mound. It is the job of these larva ants to digest the solid foods brought in by the workers and they convert it into a liquid that feeds the whole colony. So if you kill all of the larva ants, the entire colony starves to death (that is how ant bait poisons work, the problem with baits is that if it rains the poison coating washes off leaving only the food, plus the danger to pets). What I don't know is whether the eggs that I see in the mounds survive this poison and then hatch and form new mounds. Regardless, though this is not a one-time cure for fire ants, but my above described procedure gave me the best results that I have ever been able to get.

It does what it says, period.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ortho Fire Ant Killer Mound Treatment does exactly what it says. I was very carefully to follow the directions. I made sure I didn't apply a single grain on the mound. The ants vacated within the allotted time. In 5 mounds I found only one ant. I liked the way the directions explained in detail how much & where to apply the product.
