  • FOAMULAR 150 and 250 are available in various thicknesses and R-values, the difference is the compressive strength. FOAMULAR 150 has a compressive strength of 15 psi and FOAMULAR 250 is 25 psi
  • FOAMULAR is not rated for STC (sound transmission) and does not have any soundproofing properties. Owens Corning fiberglass batts and rolls are great options for acoustic applications.
  • When using FOAMULAR or any low perm insulation, always verify the moisture vapor flow and dew point characteristics of the wall system.  Please check your local building codes for vapor retarder/barrier information.
  • If being used in an interior construction application, painting the FOAMULAR is not recommended as FOAMULAR cannot be left exposed and will need to be covered by a 15 minute thermal barrier such as drywall.
  • If being used for crafts, acrylic or latex based paints can be used with FOAMULAR products.
  • If you’re looking to insulate your garage door, Owens Corning Garage Door Insulation Kit is an easy, fast and affordable way to keep your garage warm in winter and cool in the summer.

  • FOAMULAR is available in two edge configurations:
  • Square Edge – designed to fit flush next to adjoining boards
  • Scored Square Edge - comes with 3 factory scores, so that you can take a 4’ sheet, break it in two and have two, 2’ wide sheets (middle score), or you can break it into three 16” wide pieces by snapping at the left and right score.

Can I bend this product to fit a curve with reducing the integrity? Or would it need to be cut?

Asked by Cid April 29, 2021

Answers

The 2 inch thick boards are fairly rigid and are not very bendable. If the curve is very slight, you might be able to get away with it otherwise you'll probably need to cut it.

Hello Tracy, Owens Corning Foamular products are combustible an cannot be left exposed. The Foamular would need to be covered by a 15 minute thermal barrier such as 1/2" drywall. Thank you for your inquiry!

Can this product be used to cover foundation and be in ground contact?

It can be used below grade but the foundation walls themselves must provide the waterproofing.

can I use 2 inch foam board to insulate the underneath of afloor in a damp crawl space?

Asked by Wildfire April 9, 2021
2
Answers

Hello Wildfire, Foamular will not solve a moisture issue in a crawlspace. The crawlspace should have a 10 mil poly covering the entire floor with any seams overlapped and sealed as well as sealing the poly to the perimeter walls. If this is already in place or there is still a moisture issue call in a contractor/expert to deal with the moisture issue. If a floor is to be added over the poly with Foamular below it then the Foamular must be completely covered by a thermal barrier. ¾” osb is typically accepted as a thermal barrier. Thank you for your inquiry!

Which 2” insulation board is the most rigid?

Asked by James March 19, 2021
1
Answer

Hello James, The most rigid Foamular board that Owens Corning sells at Home Depot is the 2” F-250. Please note that all Foamular boards can flex with wind pressure, so we suggest framing the window opening with the same framing used for the wall and attaching the Foamular to that framing. Thank you for your inquiry!

Can it be applied to sides of aluminum barn walk

I would think if you use a good adhesive (liquid nail or something like that) it would stick to the aluminum, but that is a guess only. I'd do a quick GOOGLE search and see if anyone else has tried that. Thank you!

I have used this insulation on several projects
This 2 inch foam insulation has been used on several projects in the last 10 years. Last year I built a 6 ft by 9 ft temporary RV to use on a job, now I use it as a storage shed. This year I am building a 5 ft by 12 ft trailer and I'm using it again because it worded so well. Sadly the price has increased by about 33% from $32 to around $39 but still worth it to me.

I've used this product for several applications. In this case I have a room under our front porch, which is mostly underground; I want to turn it into a wine cellar. Doing this will help control the temperature enough to store wire, I hope. It won't be anything fancy, but I figured using this rigid insulation will not take up as much space & I don't need to build any kind of stud wall to install it. I am gluing it to the walls with a construction adhesive specifically for foam insulation. It does need to be clamped in place in order to the glue to hold the foam as I intended. To cut the product I simply score it with a utility knife on both sides & snap it like dry wall. I routed out a channel for wiring, which worked well.

After researching the net for insulation not only for a crawl space and a basement I felt this would be the best product for the application. This was easy cutting this Formular 150 R-10 2" insulation in any dimension via a Olfa knife, circular saw and or a table saw. I completed most of my cuts prior to installation and installation was much easier and time efficient. I have already completed the installation 11/23/18 on the crawl space (encapsulated the crawl) and have already observed a savings in heating costs by 18% and the floors are much warmer by 8 degrees. I no longer smell the dank crawl space and the interior environment of the house has improved 100%. I am not encapsulating the basement; however, I will use this on all of the walls and fascia boards to effectively do the same as the crawl. I have calculated the return on investment at approximately 18 to 24 months. I would highly recommend this product and it definitely met my expectations.

I am re-insulating my attic by adding R-30 un-faced rolls perpendicular to the ceiling joists. I used the 2" foam to build an attic stairway insulated cover. I built a frame with hinges to attach it too - if I ever build another one, I may just glue the foam together w/o the frame to see if it will work by itself.

I'm so happy to see thicker versions of this product at my Home Depot! I use this stuff to air seal walls and ceiling spots. Cut to size and then seal in w/ my Great Stuff PRO gun. On brick walls I fill the void between brick and studs with ROXUL safe n sound and then seal the stud void w/ foam. This gives me a fire block, fills the void eliminating a home for bugs/critters, makes wall air/water tight. Also if you expose studs go ahead and treat them w/ borate to kill any termites that try to nibble on your framing..just paint the bottom 2-3ft w/ it. This 2 inch variant of the Foamular translates to less cutting for me. It takes 3 inches to fill a 2x4 stud wall, I wish they sold the 3" thickness then I'd only have to cut one time. This does does dull utility knives quickly just a heads up buy an extra pack of blades. Attached picture shows this product along with the other foam that has a radiant barrier. I use 2 layers of foamular along w/ the radiant barrier version in most areas.
