Q:if we place this near an open dock door, will employees be able to sit in front of it without getting wet?
by|Jun 18, 2018

Answer This Question

A:  Yes. The water is adjustable and I found that if you just turn it up enough so the media is just damp it works best. It doesn't blow water out the front. It relies on evaporation to cool the air.

by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes. there is a water flow control valve on the side and when water droplets start to fly off you have to lower the water flow so the water wont get sucked off the cooling media. you want just enough water flowing to keep the media damp and not soaking wet. it is explained in detail in the owners book on the adjustment process

    by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes. Portacool Evaporative Coolers do not mist or spray out any water when used appropriately. Typically if water is leaking out or spilling out the water adjustment valve is up too high. Usually, turning this down, will fix this type of issue.

Q:Will this cooler work in humid climates?
            by|Feb 25, 2017

            Answer This Question

A:  Yes, it will lower the temperature by 10 - 15 degrees during the humid conditions in Florida. Each unit is equipped with a water flow control valve to adjust the amount of water flowing across the evaporative media. In humid conditions, less water is needed. In dry, arid conditions such as Arizona; more water is needed.

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  No this is an evaporation cooler aka swap cooler. if the humidity gets over 50-60 % they will not cool as well as they do in a dry climate. the lower the relative humidity the better they work

              by|May 5, 2023

                A:  Yes

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  I would discourage you from using this unit in a humid climate. We recently purchased two of these units for our warehouse building in Colorado where isn't humid at all. While these units pump out a decent amount of cool air, it comes at the expense of quite a heavy amount of humidity being released at the same time. The amount of humidity that two of these units generated was so thick that we only put water in one of these units at a time and only run the fan on the second unit. Even doing this, there is still a fair amount of humidity that can be felt in our 20,000 warehouse building.

                    Awesome cooler.
I bought this bad boy about a month ago and I use it everyday! I love it, my neighbors come over to stand in front of it and they love it. I have a very large garage and it really helps me work out in the garage all day long.

                      Cheaply made valves
I am on my second float valve, can’t keep the nut tight which can cause the float valve to rotate and not shut off, which then cause water to go all over the place. No reverse pump on this to pump water out.. so you have to Siphon your water out.

Wish I would have bought it sooner . Works amazing . However it does leak from underneath the tank from somewhere .. not a huge deal in our ship but kind of a waste of water and messy !

                          Great and not so great
Purchase 2 Cyclone 160 coolers from Home Depot. The first one works flawlessly and does what it's supposed to do in spades. The 2nd however arrived new in box with the water inlet jam nut broken and the pump not positioned correctly. It also had one of the brackets secured to the bottom of the pan with a fastener that hadn't been sealed properly so we still had problems with the resulting leak when we filled it manually. There is also an issue in the way the water tank is designed. Draining the tank completely is impossible due to it's compartmentalized design making the weekly cleaning more difficult than it needs to be. We have to use a wet/dry vac to remove the water in order to clean the compartments. This is poor design.

                            Cooled my garage
Bought this several months ago so I have had time to use and review. I live in phoenix so summer here is a good time to test. Cooled down my 1500 sf steel garage (insulated-14' walls) very well to the point where I was comfortable enough to work in there. I start it up in the morning before it had time to heat up. On the dry heat days it worked great to the point where the entire building is cooled down from one side to the other. On humid days it still cooled but the cooling effect was more localized. Again, it helps to start early so it doesn't have to fight to cool the space down.....still does well if you start later but is more efficient this way. For those who dont know, with evap coolers dont try to cool your space by keeping the unit inside and recycling the inside air like an a/c...you will only make it muggy inside. Building is 50' wide with 2 bay doors and a std entry door. I set up at the farthest bay door, with the door lowered down to the top of the unit, and open the entry door on the other end. This brings in air from outside, pressurizes the building with cooler air and pushes out the hot air thru the openings. I was surprised the pressure effect even cooled the air higher up towards the ceiling. Unit is not whisper quiet but much quieter than I expected. The cfm is adequate but seems it could use just a little more at times; however at the expense of more noise and electric usage. The only problem I have with the unit is the plastic hose nipple. This should have been brass. It is weak and I'm very careful not to snap it off when connecting my garden hose to it or wheeling it into position. It also leaks when disturbed so I have to periodically fuss with the hose to stop the drip. Water adjustment - If you turn on the pump before the fan it will spray water over the backside. It seems the pads aren't recessed enought and are on the same plane as the backside of the unit. I have played with the adjustment but here in phoenix I need full water flow so I keep the valve fully open. 2 things that help: 1.Push the cooling pads in as far as possible to keep them from touching the outside of the unit...this helps keep the dripping water from running down the outside. 2. When breaking in the pads use a garden hose to soak the pads first so they absorb the water faster. And I keep a towel handy. When buying be sure to open it up and clean it out before first usage (likely there will be some debris in there), and be sure the pump is mounted straight up and down and not cocked from shipping, otherwise no additional set up required...plug in and use. Also when the pads are out there is excellent access to the inside for maintenance. Wheels easily on my concrete floor. Happy with the purchase overall and made the garage useable in the hot summer months.

West Texas heat was no challenge for this unit. Now I’m working in comfort instead of extreme heat.
