Your zip code is planting zone 10. Limelight hydrangeas are planing zones 3 through 9.

Can it be grown in zone 9b

Asked by Tutuluo August 15, 2020

Answer

Hello Tutuluo, Thank you for reaching out to us. Our Limelight Hydrangea will be hardy in zones 3-9, with a partial to full sunlight requirement of 4-6+ hours a day. In Southern climates we recommend providing partial sunlight 4+ hours a day, to protect your shrub from the intense afternoon sun. I hope this helps! If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 734-654-7485 or helpdesk@provenwinnersdirect.com. Kind Regards, Tabatha

WHEN IS GOOD TIME TO PLANT THEM INTO THE GROUND

Asked by LINA February 5, 2020

You can plant them in the fall or in the spring. If you plant them in the fall make sure it's 6 weeks before your first frost date (you can check the Farmer's Almanac for the frost dates in your area). That will give them time to root in before winter. If you plant them in Spring, again make sure it's after the last frost date. If you buy them at your local Home Depot or garden center they are usually available at the right time to plant in your area. I planted all my hydrangeas in the spring. That way they would have 5 months to establish before winter BUT if you plant then you have to make sure to water them throughout the summer as they need water to get established. After the first year you don't have to worry about watering as much. My Limelights are over 3 years old and I only water during a drought and they do fine.

i love this plant but i live in zone 10 will it do well

Hi Linda, Limelight Hydrangea is hardy in zones 3-9, so it may not get cold enough in the winter in zone 10 for it to go dormant properly. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact us at helpdesk@provenwinnersdirect.com or (734) 654-7485. Best regards, Amanda

You don't need to prune them or remove the dead blooms. You can prune them a little in the fall or in the spring, whichever you desire but it really isn't necessary. I don't prune mine at all and I leave the dead blooms on all winter. Once springs comes and the plant leafs out, you won't notice the old blooms and by summer new blooms develop. I just leave mine alone and I get tons of blooms.

How long will it take hydrangea limelight to grow to mature size?

I only have Limelight and Quickfire Hydrangeas on my property and the Limelights took about 3 years to reach mature size. Mine are over 6 feet tall and are extremely easy to grow. I used to prune them shorter but now I don't prune them at all and I never remove the dead flowers from the year before. You don't have to. You'll still get a ton of blooms. They are very hardy. Even before the 3 year mark you'll have a substantial shrub. If you want you can prune them down a little but basically they are designed to not require pruning or deadheading. They are the most carefree plant on my property. I pretty much neglect them and they do great.

I Love this plant
I'm in Zone 9b. California. Recommended to me by my then ex-landscaper. Yes, you can even break-up with your landscaper. No hard feelings! Ordered 10 plants. Did not want colored hydrangeas, huge heads, nor floppy ones. It was a casual planting. Wasn't really sure I wanted to go in this direction, so I could pull them out, if I didn't like them. Plants arrived very well packaged and in perfect health. No broken stems. Planted in spring and here, in late summer, they have all thrived and doubled, at least, in size. Easily established. Beautiful blooms covering the bushes. Planted them in clay soil in full, hot, sun, but took care to amend the soil, mulch, feed and water consistently. Basically, followed the directions. Haha. So happy, I'm buying more. I may even bring back my landscaper. I did plant taller bushes behind them to give them a little shade in time, but they have yet to give them any shade, so they had to make it on their own this year. No problem. I won't prune until next year. I did not take the pictures to show growth, actually, but had them anyway. Doesn't really show how pretty they are.

I received rwo, 1 gallon LimeLight Hydrangea in record time, securely packed and extremely healthy. They have been in the ground three weeks and they look like they are happy in their new home. I live in Zpne 5 and hope they winter over well. I love Proven WInners and trust anything I get from them. I also found their customer service to be exemplary. They have answered every question I have. Home Depot has a strong customer service department as well.

Limelight Hydrangea
This is my first hydrangea. It hasn't bloomed yet, but the shrub is doing well and getting a little taller and wider each week. I live in zone 10 where summers are often foggy, windy and damp with scattered days of sunshine. It shipped timely and arrive securely packaged. I got this plant during a sale so I did get a great value as well.

Healthy plant delivered to a doorstep!
The Limelight ColorChoice Hydrangea - 1 gal. Hardy Shrub arrived extremely well packaged directly from a a greenhouse. The box arrived at my doorstep in tact with the plant well protected. The plant unpacked easily and was healthy upon arrival. I immediately transplanted the plant from it's container and have been monitoring it's health for the past few weeks. The plant has yet to bloom but is still in excellent health. The plant foliage and branches are about 12 to 14 inches around.
