A:  Hello! If you are seeding with cool season grasses, like tall fescue or ryegrass, and your daytime temperatures are (or will be soon) between 65 to 75 degrees and no lower than 50 degrees at night, you start seeding.

          Don't buy
Absolutely waste of my time and my money it has no body to it. It falls apart in your hands. The slightest bit of wind blows it away even if you secure it with stakes. It pulls out away from it and ends up in your neighbor's yard.
            Do not buy
Just purchased this a few days ago. Within two days they all rolled up and ripped. Not worth the money whatsoever. I even take staked them down

                Don’t waste your money
This product is an absolute waste of money. At the slightest breeze it rolls up on top of itself. I spent nearly $1k to cover our back yard, consistently watered over new grass seed hoping the weight of the water would weigh it down enough to keep it from rolling up, but every morning I wake up to see it rolled up in spots. Also extremely overpriced for what it is. I’ve had it less than a week and this is what it looks like.

                  save your money
This is probably the worst product that I ever bought in my many years of shopping at Home Depot and doing yard work. it's a complete waste of your money. It won't help grow your new grass seed, even when watered faithfully. Six weeks later it's stuck to the ground and blowing around the yard after I finally ran the mower over to try to get rid of it. It's totally a worthless product. Stick to hay / straw to cover you new grass seed.

                    Worked for me
It’s been about 2 weeks and lots of heavy rain. Although some of the grass is growing underneath. Well see what happens.

Avoid patchy growth: Read this first.
Just did a reseeding project on a 16’ x 3-4’ patch. First time, so I did a lot of research on videos and websites, from Scott’s to YouTube lawn care guys to try to find a consensus on how to “do it right.” When using this seed mat, this proved to be a mistake. Started first week of September, did appropriate ground prep, and put down Scott’s Lawnstarter soil. Put Scott’s sun and shade seed, and applied starter fertilizer. So far, so good. My error was adding the thin layer of Lawnstarter soil 1/8” on top of seed. Maybe it was the light raking. I dunno. I later found people wishing they hadn’t done this since it is too easy to add a little too much soil and bury the seeds, and just too hard to consistently keep a light layer. Ditto for peat moss. At any rate, looks like you can get a patchy growth based on areas with too much coverage. Seems obvious to me now, but this mat means you *don’t need any further layer*! If I could do it again, I would spread the seed evenly over the entire soil, then maybe lightly walk on soil (or use a roller?) to gently press seed into soil. Then spread the starter fertilizer next as per directions. Then apply the mat directly on to soil. You do need to initially use a shower hose to ensure the entire mat has been soaked enough to secure it so soil. Then twice a day watering maybe just 10-15m to keep soil moist for at least first few weeks. It’s pretty cool to see the growth pop through, but disappointing to see those bare patches and know exactly why. I’m pretty sure that extra layer business it to keeps seed secure and not eaten by birds, but the mat will already do this. (Personally I don’t buy the “mat choking out new grass” theory. I’d be willing to bet those folks may also have thrown an extra layer or raked in a way that left the seed distribution really erratic. Like me). Here’s some weekly time lapse pics up to my first cut this weekend. Hope this helps somebody.

                        Never degraded.
Liked at first because seed under mat sprouted but then it became dense and choked out everything including weeds. The seed I planted outside the mat grew.
