Presently I have a cement floor with self stick vinyl planks. Do I need to still put down the vapor barrier over the vinyl flooring or will the vinyl act as a vapor barrier? I'm installing Pergo Outlast+.
Asked by: Pudge
Thank you for your interest in Pergo. Yes. A 6 mil vapor barrier is ALWAYS required over a concrete subfloor. Pergo flooring can be installed directly over ceramic tiles, vinyl, linoleum and terrazzo providing they are smooth, sound and dry. These flooring materials must be smooth and flat to within 3⁄16" in a 10' radius. You can view the Installation Essentials Guide on our na.pergo website.

Outlast+ Vintage Pewter Oak 10 mm Thick x 7-1/2 in. Wide x 47-1/4 in. Length Laminate Flooring (19.63 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 326.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as easy as they make it sound.. ... Not as easy as they make it sound.. This flooring was very difficult to get at just the right angle to snap together. Do not try to install this floor without a tapping block and hammer. We have installed the Lifeproof vinyl in our winter home in Florida and that went together much easier. For our main home, I wanted something a little more wood-like. This floor feels like plastic when you walk on it. If you use the waterproof barrier underneath, you will hear it. When you walk, the floor squishes down on the plastic and I think it rubs the attached underlayment. Speaking of the attached underlayment, the "boxes" of flooring have no bottom, just plastic wrapping. As a result, most of our pieces in the bottom of the package had some kind of damage to the underlayment. There were also many pieces where the edge was damaged. There needs to be better packaging. The floor looks nice, not sure I'd use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Laminate, Easy To Install, GORGEOUS Overall we're very happy with the way the floors turned out. I will add some tips below: 1. Use the proper tools (tapping block, fine tooth saws, moisture barrier) without them you'll damage the planks and end up paying more in the end. 2. Don't be cheap. Make the cut you need and move on. I made the mistake of trying to optimize material usage and wasted hours. 3. Get appropriate thickness baseboards. Pergo recommends a 3/8 boarder, which varies depending on how straight your walls are - finish the floors, find your max gap, and but baseboards accordingly. 4. Have fun with it, get your spouse involved. With 2 people, one making cuts and the other laying, it goes MUCH faster. 5. Order more material than you need. The additional trip to the store isn't bad, but waiting 48 hours for acclimation can kill a weekend project. 6. When sealing the edges and baseboards, be liberal with the caulk. Using the gap filler helps a lot, but ensure your seal all sides of the laminate. 7. Have fun!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage It bubbled the first time my 12 pound dog peed on the floor when I was at work. I bought the 24 hour outlast pergo because it said it could handle a spill and accidents up to 24 hours. Well that simply is not true. I left for work at 7:30 AM and came back at 3:00 p.m. The Dog had had an accident and immediately I noticed the floor had bubbled up where he went. The next day the same thing happened at a different spot and it bubbled again. I am so mad right now. I just put the floor in less than a week ago. I paid someone almost $500 to help me install it and it took a four days of work and three miter saw blades to boot. This stuff dulled the blades quickly. It was a pain to put together but I made sure each piece was put in perfectly. Once we finished I thought wow this is a great looking floor. Well I should have followed my rule to never buy laminate because this stuff cannot handle anywhere near 24 hours. So basically it is garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my floors! We purchased approximately 1000sq ft and used Home Depot’s installation services. The crew was great. We had engineered hardwood floors and tile prior to our Pergo. The color and texture are perfect with two kids in the house. It really hides dust and small crumbs - so you aren’t constantly worried about mopping. It is very tough, we’ve moved furniture across it multiple times w no scratching. Highly recommend!

The first is that the tabs that click the boards into place are weak. They break easily. I had to through out a handful of boards due to the tabs being damaged will I was installing them. Second if you need a smaller piece once you cut it you lose that a looking tab which makes the rest of the board very limited in use. This created a lot of waste on top of the problems At $10 a board that adds up to a lot of wasted money. You really need to plan out your flooring ahead of time to overcome these problems. With experience you can work at cutting back on this waste, however like my I am sure a lot of Home Depot people are DIY'ers which makes the learning curve costly for this flooring.
