Questions & Answers

are the flags marking the containment area & are they buried or above ground?

Asked by: pete
You put the flags out as a reminder and visual learning tool for the dogs. They soon learn where the boundary is. They are above ground.

Asked by: Benson
8 is the farthest setting and it covers a 1/2 acre radius.

how do you decide where to install the transmitor? does it only do a circular area?

Asked by: lori
Place the transmitter near an outlet along a window or outside wall of the house or building that you want to be the 'center' of the area the dog can roam. Turn it and the collar 'on' and go outside. Walk around to find the boundaries as the collar will beep when you've reached the distance the dog can roam. If it doesn't beep soon enough for the area you want limited; either turn down the dial on the transmitter or relocate the transmitter away from the boundary you want to establish as in moving the 'center' of the area the dog can roam. Regarding your circular question; yes, it is circular except for areas obstructed by metal buildings or objects like a metal trailer. Walking around holding your collar will alert you to those situations.

The neighbors have a buried dog fence, so that may have been providing interference. Really wish it would have worked, but had to return it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best decision I normally wouldn't take time to write a review, but I felt like this product really needed one. We have two dogs, one is a beautiful Pitbull about 100 pounds and the other is a Jappion (Japanese Chin/ Papillon mix). We live in the country on 3 acres and we let our dogs roam free. But they started roaming too far, chasing people that were jogging, ect. We wanted to get a wired pet system, but since we live in woods we knew it would be hard to bury the wire. So after reading review we decided to try this wireless one. First off when it came I watched a PetSafe video to see how to train. The set up was VERY easy and took under an hour. You just put the system in the best location in the house and walk around your yard holding the collar at your pets height and when you hear the warning beep you stop and place a flag. (then repeat every 8 to 10 feet.) I trained the dogs one at a time.. bringing them on a leash towards the flag and when it beeped pulling him back a few feet towards the house. I continued with a few flags the first day. (By the way they recommend starting on just the warning beep with no static correction, but my dogs had no results, so I did it on level 2.) After the first 2 days of training I started thinking, "great this is going to be different long long process". Well I was wrong. The third day I walked the pups around the perimeter and felt like they still weren't getting it. So I cut some hair off the little dogs neck and made sure the collar was on tight. I brought him towards the flag in the driveway (were he likes to run out and chase people at)... I heard the beep and bam my pup did a little whine (I felt bad) and walked back towards the house. That is ALL it took. One good shock. It has been over a month now and he never goes outside the perimeter! I mean he is stubborn as heck and will bark and chase anything but no matter who walks by, he just barks and stays in the yard!! I cannot believe how good this works! He loves being outside and now I can leave him your go in and out without the worry of him getting good hit by a car or chasing the deer. My big dog has had the same reaction. He though started trying to run to our cars when we pulled in and ignore the beep and correction. So I turned it up to level 3...he went to run to the car and got a bigger shock and immediately went back in property. I turned it back down to level 2. All it took for him was one big correction and now he doesn't even try to leave the boundaries. I know it might sound like little mean but... A- I shocked myself on level 2 when I first got it to see and it wasn't bad at all... B- Him getting hit by a car, or hurt by the coyotes in our woods would be much worse. One correction is all it took and now both our pups are safe and so happy because they can run and play. I wish I bought this YEARS ago!! And if in the future we want to make the area bigger we will just buy another reliever and expand it. ****BTW: yesterday we had given our pup a bath and forgot to put his collar back on. My husband let him outside and he still stayed in the boundaries.. I was shocked!

I had my doubts about this working for my stubborn dog but it did, a little too well, now he is afraid to leave the boundary zone, I have to carry him out to the car:) It's nice that he has the freedom to roam around the house in the yard and not worry about him running off to cause mischief at the neighbors house's. The only complains I have is that it's hard to hear the beeps when the collar is on the dog and the boundary zone somehow shifted a little from when we set it up, which was confusing when training my dog where the zone was, but it doesn't matter because he doesn't go anywhere close to the flags.

Very easy to use and my dog learned quickly where he could and could not go. It lasted for 5 years then we switched to a different system that we only used because it was given to us for free. The new system was not consistent with where my dog could roam. When my dog ended up in the street I found I could pick up the pet safe system from Home Dept. that day. It works just like my old one and my dog stays safely in our yard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fence We love this fence for our dog. We can take it with us when visiting family so our dog can roam outside wherever. Our dog learned how the fence works within 1 day of use and he has worked well with it for 2 years since. We recommended it to family who also purchased. This fence keeps our dog safe and has been a life changer for us. Thanks for this product. Keep up the good work!

Probably wouldn't have gotten it if I'd realized that it has to be keep inside out of the cold/rain/etc. This limits the area that the dogs can run. Also the cost of the extra collars was just as expensive as the system. Costed me a total of $600 to cover for 3 dogs.

But when major distractions have come around, like other dogs or deer, our dogs have gone through it. We turned the collars up and they still went through when distractions were present. Don't skip the training steps.

He has tried once since we got the system and has not tried again. I love that I can use it to keep him off the couches by narrowing the restricted area. It's transportable so I can bring it with us to our camper.
