Q:Can these replace an old skeleton key mortise lock and doorknob? What do I need to measure to see if it will work?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi - Most skeleton mortise locks were used for interior doors that typically have a different setup than the exterior doors. Be sure to measure the cavity in the door to make sure the internal mechanism can be inserted into the door, the measurements of this are 3-5/8 in. x 5-1/2 in. x 1 in. Thanks!

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Sunny - these models are different depending on the model lock they are replacing. Models ML01/MR01 the knobs are connected to the faceplate and there are no screws on the exterior side of the faceplate/door. Models ML01N/MR01N have a spindle that runs through the door and connects the knobs from both sides (separate from faceplate) and has 4 screws on the exterior of the door. The models with "L" are for Left handed door installation, and models with "R" for right-hand door installations. Thanks!

Q:On the mortise lock itself, what is the distance between the centers of the square door handle hole, and the hold for the lock cylinder? I'm hoping to use this lock with my antique plate, which has a 3.25 inch measurement between centers.

Q:Can you enter without a key or is the key always required to open the door from the outside?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Bob - there is a toggle switch/button on the side trim of the lock that withholds the latching mechanism so you are able to enter without a key. Be safe to toggle back to always locked when not in use. Thanks!

The lock set was easy to install. I had no issues opening and closing with the key. I purchased at a decent price compared to other sites.

          Permanent attached knobs covering screws
Terrible design. Ordered online. Flimsy feel. The knobs are permanently attached but the assembly screws are behind the knob. A knob blocking access to screws is not unusual, but typically the knob can be removed to access the screws. I went to the manufacturer’s site to verify. Package lacks instructions for reversing, but I found others had shared online. With this design you’re forced to finger turn each screw and attempt to tighten with a screwdriver at 45 degree angle. Would not recommend.
