The Cheapest Solution
I purchased this 1/2 in. cork underlayment to go on the wall in my office/music studio. The other Studio quality solutions would have looked much better but ranged in price from $600-$1000 and this entire package of cork ran me $200 plus the cost of the bucket of adhesive to place the cork on the wall. I have a new house in Alabama and here they do not insulate the "Inside walls" just the outside ones. Well let's just say if somebody is snoring in the room next to my studio I can hear it 100%. I placed the cork on the wall and the door that faced the inside of the house so as not to disturb my Wife when playing music or my guitar. I also put some behind the washer/dryer room that is next to my office. All I can say is that "It Works" It doesn't black out 100% of the sound but it does more than wall insulation would ever do. Now if I had this house built I would have put the sound barrier they sell in the music stores online to block out even more sound. I still have my sound diffusers on the wall so every little bit counts.

The extra thickness is significant. I laid it loose over concrete leveling compound over plywood floors that was from around 1978 and put laminate flooring in on top. Directions weren't clear 100% but on second main room I called and was told I could open plastic wrappers that the sheets were packed in the days before installation. The panels shrank probably 1/16th to 1/8th in each dimension leaving cracks between sheets in the smaller room i put them dow as i unwrapped them. I doubt that tiny air space will have any effect on noise reduction as it is the small air pockets isolated from each other that is the real principle of noise reduction i believe

    Excellent for our needs
The only problem I have because how expensive it is is that they force you to buy a whole new box which was over 300 dollars. We only used 3 sheets out of the box and are stuck with the rest. In this day and age when our governments are taxing us to death we can’t afford to have expensive paperweights. They should sell them in boxes of 5 so as this does not happen.
