Q:If I need to hook this up to a generator, what wattage should the generator be?

          Answer This Question

A:  The running amps of the pump is 8.1. In rush can be up to 5 times the running amps when using an alternate power source. Because of the large inrush Wattage that is required, we do not recommend running pumps on generators.

          by|Feb 14, 2023

A:  I have this pump up north at my home I also have a Firman generator at the same home. It runs on propane or gasoline, the output of the generator is higher on gasoline but then you have to run the gasoline out of the carburetor every time you use it so I’ve only used it on propane. The generator is large enough to run the fridge, furnace, a handful of lights and 2 sump pumps. It’s a 8500 watt generator I have at my home for back up power, my tenants have used it 2 or 3 times with no issues. The heat stayed on, no pipes froze no food went bad and no water in the basement. In the spec sheet for the for the pump you will find a pump start up wattage for the pump. What ever size generator you decide to get you need to add up what you are putting on the generator before you purchase it to make sure you don’t overload the generator and end up with no power at all. I would find out what you want to run on the generator, then go on Firman’s web sight and locate a generator that’s inline with your total wattage being used. I believe they advise going a little larger on the wattage for motor spikes on start up’s. Their web sight is very informative. Good luck Joe

              Answer This Question

A:  No this pump has duel suction so there is no need for a weep hole. That information is in the video with the product.

A:  No, this pump has a dual suction design that allows any trapped air to escape thru the side ports of the intake screen.

                  Failed after three months
I'd been very happy with this pump as it's quiet and quite powerful. Unfortunately, it failed miserably during its first major stress test. We had lots of water flowing into our basement after a recent storm and the float switch stopped working, causing our basement to flood. The float lifts but seems to get stuck just short of where it triggers the pump. I'm able to manually engage it and it will work for a while but it eventually gets stuck again. Also, the power cord is too short.

1 year later- failed = flood
Should have learned the 1st time when pump went bad less than 2 years of purchase. However, needed a pump quick so ran to Depot for Another Rigid ( Shame on me) This 2nd pump lasted a year!! I don’t get how a submersible pump rusts out!? Stopped working & flooded basement! Thank god I planned accordingly when finishing basement and raised floor to prevent damage to finished side. Sump 80% of time is dry, baffled on quality! Unfortunately I would be using Rigid pumps anymore, after tons of research ended up with a Zoeller

                      Sump pump for noobs!
Super easy to install. Our builder didnt clean the sump pit out and there was 2 inches of dirt and rocks and building materials which were sucked up in our old pump. Very easy install unscrew the old one cleaned out the pit installed and filled as per instructions and pump removed about 25 gallons of water in less than 5 seconds. Super quite as well.

Easy-Peasy and super quiet for this size pump. I'm pumping the water under 10ft to the outside and this 1/2 HP unit more than handles that. Direct swap for pre-existing Ridgid Pump that started short-cycling unfortunately but was over 5 years old and worked well during that time (there was a bad check valve inline which may have prematurely worn the pump out). The new install took no time. when using rubber couplers between PVC pipes of 1.5 inch and a check valve placed several feet about the pump. I recommend using a 1.5in. NPT to barbed outlet for the pump ~see pic~ (Couldn't find these at the store so went elsewhere for that part)

                      Worked for one week
Purchased this pump to replace my working pump that was making noises. Installed on 12/7/21. Wow was it quiet. So quiet I worried. I checked on it for a week. Well 12/17 it wasn’t working while gone and flooded basement. Ran and got another brand.

                        Great pump
Just replaced our builders Rigid 1/3 hp sump pump from 1990 that was still in operation. New Rigid 1/2 hp pump works great, quiet and easy to install. The old pump speaks volumes for the quality of the Rigid brand.

Connected to old system easy, after I bought a part that for the $300.00 I paid for the pump should have come with it... There was no instructions of how to adjust the float level, so it wouldn't leave 6 inches of water in the hole, but it seems to be a strong pump...

                            terrible design
I have the earlier version of this sump pump. There are three 1/8 inch bolts that hold the pump together and to the base. Duh this item is made to pump water and the base is always covered in water since the float cuts the pump off when the base is still submerged. The bolts are not stainless steel and they rusted to the point that when I lifted the pump it fell apart and all the oil leaked out. Only owned the pump for a little more than 3 years, just enough time for the warranty to expire. Not going to bother to try to rebuild it as the parts and aggravation are not worth it. Beware of this poorly designed product.

This pump is so quiet you have to look at the float position to see if it is on. Installation was EZ.

easy install and actually a fun project
This install was a fun little project. Previous pump started getting stuck on and cleaning it out didn't fix the issue. I thought I could reuse the PVC out of the old one, but it was stuck on pretty good, so I bought new PVC and cured it together no problem then just screwed it into the new pump. Dropped it down and made sure it was level, reconnected all the pipes then it was plug and play game on. This thing is twice as big as my previous one but HALF AS LOUD (aka this is quieter), so that's nice. Seems to be good to go now, on autopilot. (Before installing the new pump I cleaned out the pit of as much sediment as possible.)
