Questions & Answers

Q:We applied this on our exterior stone last August. We have just noticed that it is starting to peel/chip away in an area where the rain hits the stone. Has anyone dealt with this, or found solutions to fix this?

Answer This Question

A:  I’m curious to see an answer or suggestion from Romabio. We applied this several yrs ago to our exterior brick and I have to touch up many areas each yr in areas where rain hits it. Gutter overflows, windowsills, etc so I have a decent amt of work each yr

A:  Classico Limewash® is meant to weather an patina over time. Areas that come in frequent or prolonged contact with water will show that patina faster than other areas. You can touch up the spots you feel need more coverage. After that, we recommend applying Romabio Mineral Shield to slow that process considerably. It repels water so the beauty of your finish will last longer. Go to romabio.com for more info on Mineral Shield Topcoat.

Q:Once you apply the lime wash, and then you want to distress it, what do you do. Wipe it with a rag, spray it with the water hose or what?

      Answer This Question

A:  There are many different ways to distress the product. Some may be more effective based on the look you want and how long the product has been drying. If you distress it within 30mins of applying (or once it starts to dry) it won't take much pressure so a rag or hose can work. After its dried well, you can use the same same tools it will just take a bit more pressure or elbow grease to get it off. Be sure to distress within the first 48hrs or it will be much more difficult. Go to romabio.com for videos of cloth distressing and hose distressing.

Q:Is there an expiration date on the lime wash? I have 1/2 gallon left from a previous project 4 years ago.

          Answer This Question

A:  Classico Limewash has a pretty long shelf life it it's stored properly, undiluted and sealed well to prevent air from getting inside. You'll know the paint is no longer viable if there is any discoloration or odor. Healthy lime paints have virtually no odor.

Love this product so much that I can't seem to stop using it, it's so easy to work with. I'm using it to tone down a dated and rather unattractive stone veneer. So I keep trying Romabio's various colors. Riposo beige comes out too yellow for my tastes. Avorio white is too stark. I wish Romabio offered a rosy beige. My next step will be to see if I could get something custom-mixed.

            PERFECT and safe for brick
After doing a lot of research on painting brick, I realized it probably wasnt the best option. It’s permanent, damages the brick with sealed in moisture, and loses the texture. This stuff totally transformed our house and wont allows the brick to breathe. We used sherwin williams alabaster on the siding and the avorio white is practically the same color! Check out this before and after!

Huge bang for your buck!! My fireplace went from a dark, heavy-looking red brick to a bright and stunning work of art in 4-5 hours. You can apply the limestone in a heavier manner thus giving a uniformly opaque look if you like. I instead chose to wipe some bricks/areas down to give a look of natural variance amongst the bricks. It is stunning! I wish I could upload a before/after pic to post. It looks like a $1500+ improvement (but only cost a fraction of that amount). I used the big can and have half left over (coverage: hearth to 8ft ceilings). Sooo simple to use. It took a week to arrive, so I used the extra time to brush down the dry brick w a stiff brush, then vac.

              Pictures speak for itself.
The secret was waiting 15-20 minutes before using the water hose to wash it out. Only con is the price as it took five buckets of 4.5 gallons too do my home that’s around 2k sq

                CANNOT RETOUCH
I had my entire home painted with this product. Some "staining" as the manufacturer called it came out from underneath. I was told by the manufacturer to use a primer over the spots, then touch up with the paint again. I touched up on the left and the right, and its darker. So the manufacturer told me to paint the entire area. When it was painted the second time the color is lighter. BE PREPARED TO SPEND MONEY

Hi Beto. We're sorry you're having a tough time with your brick. Brick is very absorbent and can wick moisture or retain vapor residues, such as oils or tannins. Manganese is probably the most common stain on brick because it happens at the manufacturing stage when the bricks are exposed to acid during production. Unfortunately, this outcome is tough to see on raw brick or stone and can’t be predicted before or during the application of any paint product. We do have solution in cases where this happens. Reach out to our team at info@romabio.com. RomabioHC
