Is Ryobi 40V Cordless Leaf Vacuum/Mulcher w/ 5Ah battery & charger good enough?
I use this cordless vacuum/mulcher to tidy up the lawn from the 10 years old red oak. It does work well but falls short of 5 stars. If Ryobi is reading this, please modify/improve this model and turn it from a good to great tool: 1. The bag is too big. It drags on the ground/lawn. From the product picture, you can see the bottom of the collector bag almost touching the ground. In practice, unless you tilt the unit up, you are dragging the bag. I stepped on the bag all the time. 2. The front hook/loop of the collector bag does not stay in place. Since the bag drags on the lawn, it dislodge the hook from the anchor all the time. I use a twisty tie to keep it in place (see picture). A one way locking anchor to keep the hook/loop in place would fix this. 3. The front (bellow?) of the suction tube (see picture) is not angled down enough. It is at about 40 degrees? I ended up tilting/picking the unit up to suck up dry leaves all the time. the top grab helps but after tilting the unit for awhile, it gets tiring on the trigger hand. If the front angle increase to 50 or even 60 degrees, it would help suction and greatly reduce the tilting problem.. 4. Emptying the bag into a lawn trash container is a challenge. If I remove the bag completely from the unit. It is an easy job but I don't know if the clip keeping the bag to vacuum can hold up to multiple clipping and unclipping from premature breaking. Emptying with the bag attached without a convenience place to hold on to the unit is not easy. It'll be great to have a handle on the top of the vacuum tube (right next to the 'VACATTACK' label?). If Ryobi decides to improve the model, I'll be happy to buy and try out the next improved version.

Not the best 40volt tool available
Purchased this VacAttack Leaf Mulcher in July for the battery use on other tools, tried it on the yard for about a week playing and picking up the leaves. It's December 23, 2022 and went out to really show my son , it did not work. Switched out to a different battery and still no go. I was really happy for the battery, but the leaf mulcher did not impress me.

                Needs improvements and modifications1st part:!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This a garden tools with great opportunities. It is composed in three parts: 1st part, the ''Vacuum-mulchers tool'', 2nd part, the ''Leaf collection bag'' and the '40 V Lithium-ion battery port and pack'. 1st part: Everything work as expected, excepted the ''Hook'' on the upper vacuumtube, it does not do the job of keeping the ''Open ended tab'' locked to the hook. this is the first flaw. it could be corrected by adding a 'Locking screw type' to the hook,to retain the open ended tab in place (It always become loose when the vacuum is pushed back and forward. Also,''Holding strap'' should be provided with the vacuumtool (There is a ''Special hole'' on the top of the handle that can be used for it,as done by other vacuum tools). The ''Switch trigger'' and the ''Variable speed dial'' should re-engineered into a 'Rotating knob'' that can be used as ''ON/Off'' switch and ''Variable speed'' switch, all in one knob (Other vacuum tools use similar rotating knob). 2nd part: The leaf collection bag material should be changed into a ''Non sticking'' material, inside the walls of the bag. The leafs and the mulched leafs are *glued* to the inside walls all around, all the time. The bag must be rebuilded with a 'Non sticking', material (Other vacuum tools has it). The ''Underneath pad'' does not move or slide efficiently, while moving the bag. ''Sliding skis'' or ''Rolling weels'' should be put under the bag. 3rd part: The ''Battery port'' should be moved up front of the vacuumtool, underneath the ''Vacuum housing assembly partition'' (Where the upper vacuum tube sit on). This way, the vacuum tool will be much more balanced (Right now there is toomuchweight tothe back of the tool, which tends to lift the vacuum tube up in the air, as it difficult to keep the tube down, while vacuuming the leafs). These improvements and modifications will make the 40 Volt Leaf Vacuum a much better tool and a powerfull competitive Vaccumm-mulcher garden tool.

                  Cheap!
I just had this delivered less than 24 hours ago and 1 of the wheels have already busted. I have not even vacuumed up 3 bags of leaves yet and the wheel busts! 200$ and less than a day old it breaks. I love all of my ryobi wood working tools. But this was my first purchase on the outdoor equipment. I have been using kobalt which has been great, but wanted to give Ryobi outdoor a try. If this is the quality- I won’t buy again. In a market full of options- I may choose another brand

                    A real suckup
Hardboard on bottom of bag and four swivel casters . Three inch size used to assist mobility. Our yard is xeriscaped and mostly rock which would have chewed up the bag bottom. The hard board that is inside the bag actually helps with emptying because the debris does not adhere to it as the dust clings to the rest of the inside of the bag. One piece of hard board is inside and another is outside the bottom of the bag. I used one reviewers idea to use a short bungee to keep the bag attached at the front; also I put on a neck strap the clip of which fits into the hole in the handle.

                      Leaf vacuum
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like the functionality of the vacuum but am concerned about the durability of the bag. I’ve only used the vacuum a couple of times but notice the bottom of the bag is already showing wear due to using it on my asphalt driveway.

                        Did the job!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have a large yard and live across the street from 31 acres, both have mature tress. Was looking for a better more climate friendly way to manage the leaves in the fall. Out of the box, the Vac/Mulcher does a great job of vacing up the leaves and mulching. Didn't have to continuously go over the same area. What I accomplished with one charge was impressive considering the layer of leaves on the lawn. Please note - I am vertically challenged so had to develop a comfortable hold while vacing, so the bag did not drag. One design improvement - the open hook for the bag does not stay on the hook. Reversing the hose hook would help ( Hook opening pointing up the hose is an option. Issue could be due to my height and no fault of the vac)

                          Pretty good
Works pretty well, the nozzle is flared and can’t get in some spaces. The front clip to hold the bag sucks, too big and always comes out putting all the weight on one part of the bag. I used a small bungee to hold it on.

                            Pretty good. Would buy again.
Quick review: Pros: No cords, powerful, good battery life and the same battery as my other Ryobi products. Cons: Heavy, awkward weight to carry around, Emptying bag is more tedious that need be.. It's much better than my electric leaf vacuum as far as convenience. Grab and go is nice. It is heavy to hold for more than a few minutes. It doesn't sit close to your body and there is no shoulder strap. So the weight really pulls on your lower back and shoulders after 10 - 15 minutes. Although I fear that the plastic wheels will wear out long before the rest of the machine, they do help carry the load. They are nice on smooth surfaces like along the curb or the patio retaining wall where the leaves like to gather. The bag, hmm, the bag. The double zipper and flap need a re-design. Just not smooth, and it takes all of 2 hands to zip and unzip. Then the bag material. Yes, I get that the bag needs to release the air, but the material texture inside the bag literally holds the leaves like Velcro. You have to reach in and manually remove the last of the leaves from the bag. Overall, I like it. Cleanups on the patio and around the edged beds and retaining walls are quick and easy. The fact that the unit came with the same 40v battery as my other products was the clincher. Making it well worth the price.
