Can this be used manually as well like other electric ratchets

I had the same question after seeing references to not using the tool too tighten and not use it at all unless you are running the tool off the battery. Tightening should not be done since you need to torque things to the proper spec anyway. Breaking loose though? So I asked Ryobi for clarification from their support portal and received this response. "Thank you for choosing RYOBI. I am sorry you are having a hard time understanding how you use your Ratchet. To be clear, you are asking if the can be used to break the bolt lose before running the ratchet. The answer is no. Unless you are engaging the battery power and pulling the trigger to break the bolt lose you should not use this tool to manually loosen anything. If you cannot loosen the bolt by running the ratchet alone you will need some other tool to loosen the bolt. An Impact wrench may work better in this case. Please let me know if you have further questions." This is pretty inconvenient since every other electric ratchet advises to not break the bolt by running the ratchet and instead use the ratchet manually to break it, then run the ratchet. What Ryobi is advising above is not good for the motor so it's quite baffling overall.

Where is the 1/4" drive version of this one? Thought it would be out already?

use an adapter, for 1/4" you will need the clearance anyway.

Yes just like a manual ratchet.

does this have any impact torque?

No. As with all cordless ratchets, all torque must be applied manually. Their sole purpose is to speed the installation, not for torque.

Will there be a 1/2 in. Version of this tool?

These are useless with 1/2 being their limited torque.

Love the large paddle switch and rotating head , I only wish that the battery reciever also rotated like the old blue ryobi grinder and 3/8 right angle drill. But none the less the power and ease of use of this product makes it my go to for my socket set when doing automotive repairs.

I am a heavy duty engine tech and I have been using this ratchet for the better part of two months now. I wanted to get a feel for the product before leaving a review. This ratchet has saved me time and my hearing. I had a loud air ratchet before I would neglect to use which cost me efficiency. I have been wishing I could get my hands on an affordable ratchet that can save me the time I lost. This ratchet is not the easiest to manuever into tight quarters like some competitors can. Squeezing into frame rails and behind engine blocks is still achievable with extensions, the object you want to have in your toolbox most to use this tool properly is a 3/8 chrome wobble socket. It gets you everywhere you need to be. There is an obvious loss of torque when using wobbles and extensions with this tool. A 6" extension causes this tool to have difficulty breaking 18ft/lb loose with it's programming. There is a technique I have found, operate this tool like a saw by starting to turn on the unit and then shove it into the bolt. It will break it loose and bypass the previous programming.Don't torque on this thing, it feels like a rubber mallet when pushing on it. Also, if you use this tool at 100% throttle on anything that has a breakaway torque less than 20ft/lb like a u-clamp, hose clamp, or the like it will snap the pinched object in two. Then you have to explain to your boss that you need a new component!! He doesn't like it when you break things... so be wary! =)Do buy a 3/8 wobble or even a wobble set! Always torque with this beasty, it can hit the 35ft/lb but I've found until the clutch brake in this guy starts to wear off, you don't get the full cosmic power this tool possesses. So run this beasty like it wants to, spin that head every chance you can get! It does make things easier when the throttle is not held down by gravity as you are under a vehicle.. Ryobi engineers - Make the throttle lock a depressed feature... it is way too easy to accidentally lock when you're trying to run the bolt down. Also, please set a 10 second timer on the lighting much like the 1/2" impact I have. Thanks, waiting for round 2 of this guy, prototype tester please?TL;DR:Buy this tool if you have no ratchet in your inventory but get a wobble, Don't use on clamps of any type. Always torque after using. The flashlight needs an update on programming and you will always accidentally lock the throttle, especially when it's held against your palms.

They did it again, "RYOBI's, 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 3/8 in. 4-Position Ratchet" with up to 35 ft./lbs. of torque and 230 RPMs to drive and remove fasteners. "4-position head makes fitting into tight spaces a breeze at any angle. Regardless of what angle you position the ratchet, your workspace will be lit by one of the two LED's on the front of the ratchet." So that's all the quick details one could read buying, but importance to point out the strengths of the tool and flexibles' We ran a bench test with a 1/2 and 9/16 socket driving and removing nuts on a bolts from semi corroded 30 year old finger hinges. Removing them by hand off the poles will needed a to use our 18 inch ratchet and of course work it, The Ryobi has the size for the leverage but only need to pull the trigger and lets it do the work - breeze, Time saver and lets you do more without killing your self. I also fastened a nut fully seated with a fresh battery, used a old torque wrench and it took just above 35 ft./lb. for the nut to move, so we got every bit the 35 ft./lb. it's rated for. The lights (LED) are a notable feature, bright and one can see what there doing, they be great down under the car or under the sink for that matter.

This cordless ratchet worked well for my needs, initially looking at it I was concerned about the battery getting in the way and making it hard to access areas in my work space but the rotatable head alleviated that issue. I used this to retighten a toilet seat and it worked just find. This comes with an extender and there is a home for it on the base of ths tool. I hate having an accessory without an onboard storage holder, as I usually lose it or do not have it handy when I need it, so having this was a great touch. This lost a star from me because the base of the tool makes it a little difficult to operate it, for me I have big hands and need a little more clearancs. There are 2 leds on this, so no matter the orientation of the head, the work area will have light on it, but the light goes off soon as you release the handle. I would have liked 10 second delay so I can check out the work area. To rotate the head, just pull the collar up and move the head. Has 4 detents.

This is the first of it's kind as far as I know where the head can be turned in four different positions which makes it much more capable for getting it into tight spaces without having to reposition the tool. The led light is get for dark areas and the power lever has a lock so the tool won't turn on if your box is in transport. The ratchet can be used as a manual ratchet to break lose any lugs or nuts if needed. I put the ratchet to work assembling a cart for my tractor and it worked great.

This RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 3/8 in. 4-Position Ratchet (Tool Only) is a great product. I have many of the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ tools and I am very pleased with the quality and power that they have. What I like about this product is the 4-Position Ratchet head. I have had this product about a week and have used it to remove a lawnmower blade as well as some other light projects around the house. But I could certainly use this on heavy duty fastening applications. Regardless of the project use, your work area will be lit by one of the two LED's on the front of the ratchet. The unit comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty. Please note that the Battery and charger are sold separately.

(What's this)
I have to admit that in general I am a fan of the Ryobi One+ line of tools and this 3/8" ratchet is everything that I have come to expect. It feels very solidly built with high-quality materials and workmanship. I prefer using a powered ratchet on those hard to reach bolts where the swing arc is minimal or where the bolt has lots of threads to remove. This ratchet doesn’t produce all the exhaust air normally seen from a pneumatic tool which tends to send dust and dirt directly into the eyes. The head rotates in increments of 90 degrees and locks into place with the collar spring which provides options to get into tight spaces. It has a variable speed trigger which operates very smoothly. It has two LED lights which light up the work area fairly well. The documentation list the torque rating as 35 ft-lbs. and cautions not to use the tool to manually apply extra torque to tighten a bolt/nut – a torque wrench should be used for that purpose. Overall, I am very happy with this tool and it is a nice addition to my Ryobi tools and my tool box.

Ryobi's first cordless ratchet is a winner! Comes with what you need aside from a battery, any Ryobi 18V One+ battery will work, from their 1.2AH packs to the biggest packs they make, all snap in. No assembly is required, they even toss in a 3 inch extension! The ratchet has storage for that extension in the base, and it can fit other extensions instead as well. The head is made for 3/8" sockets, all brands fit well. Variable speed paddle switch with lockout for safety. Up to 230 RPM with 35ft/lbs of torque. Perfect for working on most types of mechanical assemblies. This isn't made to be a big impact gun, but a nice handheld ratchet to speed jobs up and keep from busting your knuckles in tight spaces. So far I've used it to install my side steps on the truck and swap the mower blade, no issues at all! LOVE the four position head, you can turn it to any angle you need and still access the paddle switch. Variable speed is very handy and it will slow to a crawl for you. The head is reversible of course, just turn the switch on the back like a regular ratchet. The base is wide and it will stand upright for you, easy to grab on the job. The handle fits big hands nicely, even with gloves. Rubber grips are nice on sweaty days. Two LEDs are built into the head and shine light no matter what position you have the drive head in. Highly recommended, good job Ryobi!

Another glad to have addition to my Ryobi 18 volt One + line of tools. It will use any 18-Volt ONE+ battery. This is a tool only purchase so you will need to get a battery and charger if you don't have one. And depending on the tool you select you can get another tool that includes the battery and charger for not much more than the battery and charger alone. This tool is reversible has 4 positions and two work lights that help assure you can position the tool as needed and illuminate the area as well. There extension stores neatly above the battery in the tools base and with the extension or without it will use any 3/8 socket or tool bit without an adapter and of course other sizes with an adapter. Its light and easy to use and provides with its variable speed trigger up to 35 ft/lbs. at 230 rpms.
