About This Product

The 5 Point Sensible Solution Standard: Control. Efficiency. Flexibility. Comfort. Value. In keeping with these values, Ramsond proudly introduces the GWi Series Super-Efficiency Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner, with INVERTER technology. These ACs are specially engineered to be high-yield and to cut power use, slashing up to 30% compared to standard rotary style mini splits. How. Normal rotary ACs shut off the compressor when not in use. That burns power getting back up to speed to cool or heat. Our inverter compressors simply ramp up or down rotation frequency using computer-controlled electromagnetic switching. Big words, but what does it mean. Ramsond GWi ACs use less power starting up, reaching optimal comfort faster and cheaper. That's more money for you every month while keeping cool. Just like our classic GW Series, these mini splits can be setup almost anywhere with no need for ductwork. By design, mini splits can be used in the area (or zone) installed in without affecting other spaces. (Our units can be programmed to do it themselves using automatic timer startup/shutoff, too.) Also called zone systems, mini splits cool/heat only the zone in which they're placed. When desired they can be turned on, then just turned off when done. That flexibility means energy savings compared to central climate control. Ramsond ACs also have HEAT PUMPS standard - not only cooling during hot summers, they produce supplemental heat in fall and winter.

Highlights

  • Mini splits have 2 main components: an outdoor unit (condenser), and indoor unit (evaporator), the indoor unit is attached onto an included metal bracket hung on an interior wall, like picture frame, a hole is cut through the wall to pass the included insulated copper line set and wiring through, this connects the 2 main units together, the outdoor is wired to the breaker, sending the indoor power, operation is controlled by the included wireless remote - simply set the desired temperature and the ac will run

          Easy install
This is very diy don't be fooled by the reviews if a 28 year old mechanic can do it anyone can don't forget buy the adapter for your 410 gauges it's a 5/16 to 1/4 adapter I vacuumed mine for about an hour bit over kill but well worth the peace of mind heats and cools great be sure to run at least 12 gauge wire don't use 14g and only use 10g for 220v systems I put mine on its own breaker as well might be a bit harder since this was a new add on room to the house but shouldn't be much more harder.

This unit is working great to heat our 200 sq ft room. I've tested the cooling and looking forward to it in the summer. I found the directions easy to follow and both the indoor and outdoor units were relatively easy to install. I mounted the outdoor unit on the "L" brackets which are attached to the house. Because the outdoor unit is attached to the house we notice when it's running and shuts off. The indoor unit is basically silent and looks good. Attaching the pipes and electrical is pretty straight forward. I found the use of a tube bending tool very helpful when making turns with the pipes, maybe necessary.

I installed the unit myself. I followed the directions to install the unit, it was fairly easy to do. I installed it in one day, then called in hvac professional to check it over and everything was good to go. Then unit works way better than expected, it is very quite you don't even realize that it is running.

The unit is OK, nothing special. The DIY label is misleading though since you will still need to have or purchase a vacuum pump and vacuum the lines. To make matters worse the original flares on the copper lines were atrocious and pulled air the moment I started to pull a vacuum.

Not so "DIY" after all...Don't bother
Bought this unit specifically because it said DIY. Silly me, I thought that would mean that all necessary connections were included. Once I procured the additional electrical hardware necessary for outdoor connections, I figured it was just install and go. Not so. Air would move but no conditioning would occur. We did have an error code though. After nearly 2 months of phone and email troubleshooting with the manufacturer, including circuit board replacement (twice because the wrong part was shipped) and metering connection points, the manufacturer tells me there may not be enough coolant in the system. Local HVAC contractors wanted between $400-800 just to come troubleshoot the system. A brand new "DIY" system was going to require hundreds of additional dollars in expense, just to figure out what's wanted working. That was enough. We removed the entire system and returned it to HD. Thank goodness we put it on the HD credit card. I can't recommend this Ramsond unit, but I do recommend using the HD card because you can return items up to 1 year after purchase.

2 week wait, arrived dented/damaged, poor install instructions (bought DIY ready unit), had to finally call heating & air company and be told how to release the valve for it to get cold (they could have not helped and charged us service call). Home Depot employees have no understanding of install.

Would not Recommend. The unit was finally operable after a nightmare of bad customer service. To begin with, HD does not stock this product, they order it on demand from the manufacturer and UPS delivers. I had to return the first unit immediately to HD when I removed from the box and found a severely damaged side, kinda looked like it got hit by the UPS truck! Honestly, for the price of this appliance, they appear to cheap out overall on secure packaging, because even the second unit had an ever-so-slight warp to the outdoor unit casing. The DIY installation actually went fairly smoothly, but that is where the problem the success stopped and you are left at the mercy of an HVAC tech and the manufacturer providing a well built product. Advice: do not plan this until you find an HVAC company willing to work on it! (Talk to tech or service manager). Wasted a week, receptionist scheduled appt even though I asked for service staff to verify they truly service these, only to be told by tech that the girl on phone was wrong. I did find a great small company who charged the unit at fair price, however it quit working shortly after. They came back and thoroughly checked to determine the equipment had a defective part - the outdoor circuit board. You will not get warranty parts from manufacturer without a service tech report! I had one, but the customer service still was poor, hard to get in contact with the only tech support person, had to hound them relentlessly. When finally I spoke with him, had to answer same stupid questions repeatedly. The sent a new circuit board finally. When installing, removed the board to find one wire disconnected underneath the board (unaccessible except by removing the board which the manufacturer was last and only person to touch that wire). It works great now, but hope for better luck than I had!

Was a little leery about installing myself, but actually wasn't too bad at all, it took me about 4 hours in total to install. To my satisfaction the unit is very quiet especially being I installed it in my bedroom. Definitely Recommend
