What is a good ratio that is expressed in terms of water per volume? For the small mix jobs? “Quarts per bag” is way too vague for my practical uses.

Can I seal the concrete before applying?

Answer

I suppose you could but that would not make good use of this product. I would follow the directions on the package. If you want to add a sealer after the mortar sets and cures then it probably will not hurt.

Can this be used for chimney crown repair?

Asked by Brian November 9, 2020

Answer

Hi Brian, That is good question and hope it will be confirmed by manufacturer. My best guess is - yes. Temperature on chimney crown should be moderate and this cement should be capable handling them. However, follow up with producer (1-800-929-3030) before taking my "yes" as absolute. Hope it helps!

This product is super easy to mix and apply. I love making concrete projects for my garden but in the PNW, it rains so much that they end up taking in rain water and eventually crumble. I am hoping i have found the solution for this. Last week i coated my garden orb with this waterproofing mortar. I know this isn't the normal use for this product, but i think it can solve my soaking and crumbling for my little pinterest projects. I will come back and update my review after the fall to see if my orb is still in great shape.

This is an easy to use product that mixes well to a smooth almost putty-like texture and spreads easily and sticks well to any concrete surface. It dries to a very dense and hard surface and can be worked to a very smooth finish to make an attractive repair. The material appears very non-porous and durable on my basement steps. It should be usable for patches as well as waterproofing.

This waterproofing mortar is easy to mix and apply following the directions but the procedure was more extensive than my previous waterproofing efforts. My application was all near the floor, where the floor turns to wall and for about a foot up the wall in an area set off to stop seepage across the cellar from exposed ledge in our basement, predominantly in the spring. Over the years I have gotten adept at cleaning and re-cleaning this area before applying previous coatings. This material is different than any of the previous products I have used and while the prep work was still a chore and the procedure extended I have a good feeling about this product.

I used the mortar to fix a couple spots in our garage. The powder is very consistent and it mixes easily with water. The mortar sets fairly quickly, but I gave it at least 24 hours before driving over. We will see how long it lasts but I am pleased with the result so far and how easy it was to work with and clean up. The dry mix doesn't have any added rocks or large particles, so it allows you to create a very smooth finish.

This product arrived as a 50 bag inside a nice, solid white bucket. The bucket would have been great to mix large batches of mortar, but since I'm a female, amateur, I work too slow for this mortar's dry time; so I used a bowl to mix 1 cup of mix with approximately 1/3 cup of water. Although this made for about 50 batches, it was relaxing to work at my own pace. You'll see that I tried to patch sections of my rock wall and driveway crack a couple of years ago using a quickcrete product. That motrar crumbled like chalk and was virtually all lost within 3 years. My initial opinion is that this product seemed more solid. During the heat of the day (sunny high 70s), I did spray down my patches to slow their drying to prevent cracking. Once dry, the mortar hardened to a rock solid consistency like a cement - not chalky mortar. I'm excited that this product is waterproof. I think it should make a dramatic difference in it's longevity and will protect the integrity of my wall structure for years to come.

The 50 Pound Rapid Set Waterproofing bucket is just what the doctor ordered when you need this product to stop water. We had a series of storms back in April and identified areas that were leaking and we were able to waterproof the entire area with ease. REMEMBER that you need to wait 3-5 days before exposing the product to hydro static pressure so this is not an emergency quick fix product. What I love is that you have 30 minutes of working time and this allows you to complete the job the right way!

The waterproofing mortar arrived (in a cardboard box and sealed in a five gallon plastic container - obviously to keep the mortar dry) and since it is a fifty pound container it is still on my porch. Waiting for a few good, no rain, weather days so that I can apply it to the cinder block foundation of my front porch. I plan to use this mortar outside and inside to completely waterproof the area of my basement that is in need of some repair. This is going to be the perfect product to handle this repair.

Got this recently and have tried it once on the basement cracks so far. I do not have any water problem, so cannot say yet, if this is waterproofing it, but the quality of the mortar as such is good. Easy mix and application and dries well. would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for mortar for basement cracks etc. So far so good and will update my review if i see any thing

One section of my concrete wall was flooded recently so I wanted to water proof it. I smoothed and scraped the surface with a concrete grinding wheel using an angle grinder. The instructions said you could use a brush or 3/8" nap roller or you could trowel it on. I chose to use a margin trowel and a rectangular finishing towel. I mixed it in a wheelbarrow and did a smaller batch in a gallon bucket to a creamy consistency. It was easy to apply as you just add water and mix. This is a blend of hydraulic cement and high performance additives including a polymer and has a working time of 30 minutes. You apply one layer using a horizontal finishing motion. Then you wait 3 hours to apply the finish layer using a vertical finishing motion. It can be used inside or on exterior surfaces and is crack resistant. I used a wet sponge and trowel to smooth the final coat which when dry can be painted.
