Q:How heavy is it?

Answer This Question

A:  Website says 7.5lbs. It's not too heavy. The metal part is the one that has the most weight. Handle is light. I let the shovel fall without much effort to get into the soil. Saved my back.

      Lifetime Shovel!
I needed a shovel for digging a French drain trench and this one gets the job done! It easily weighs 7.5 lbs+! This thing is a beast. From the top of the handle, to the tip of the blade, it is heavy duty. I wouldn't use it for rock-busting (like another reviewer), but it is the perfect tool for the work I needed done. Not to mention: **Lifetime Warranty**. That's a company that stands behind their product. The AMES Companies, Inc. (look them up).

          American made. Heavy is good
This is the heaviest irrigation shovel I've seen. It's nice. Solid shank. 12 gauge steel. The steel handle vibrates but it does not bother me. A solid American made shovel.

            Amazing quality!
First off let me say that the shovel looks nothing like the picture. However, the quality is amazing. The weight is perfect. The best shovel for digging by far.

              Slightly disappointed
This is a decent product, but I am slightly disappointed. I already have an older razor back caprock shovel and I loved it! Unfortunately the quality of the new shovel is not as good as the old one. The handle is the same but the blade is not. The old blade was made in Ireland and the blade on the new shovel is made in India. The ground where I live is very rocky and I have used the old shovel to bust up several rocks through the years digging post holes. The old blade still shows no signs of wear and I have been very impressed with it. This is why I decided to get another one just like it when the need for a second shovel came up. Unfortunately I don’t like it as much. The steel on the new blade is obviously softer than the old one. I have used it once and after busting only one rock with it the blade already has small dings in the end of it. This is still a good shovel compared to most, but I wish that it had the same quality blade as the old shovel. Also the new blade has more angle to it than the old one. I don't know maybe some people would like this, but my personal preference, I liked the angle of the old one better.
