What is largest size turkey you can fry?

Asked by: Hockeyman
With most turkey fryer rigs, 15 lbs is the absolute max and requires 3.5 to 4 gallons of oil. I don't advise trying to fry anything over 13 lbs. I've been frying turkeys for about 20 years and I try to stick to 12-13 lbs. With that said, you should always refer to the Manual and instructions that comes with your fryer and/or pot. They may have different specs, or recommend different weight limits or oil quantity. Buy I have yet to find a fryer that can properly do a 20 lb turkey, like grandma used to spend all day roasting in the oven. That's why I always cook 2 <smile>.
