Questions & Answers

Is the description correct in regards to square footage? Would it take 4 of these kits to complete a standard 2 car garage?

Asked by: Brian
About 80 sq ft per kit is more accurate

I have a floor 30'x 40' can one box be enough?

Asked by: Billy
The coverage stated on the box is fantasy. It took 8 boxes to do our 2-car garage, and it turned out looking terrible from air bubbles and comet tails appearing while the product cured.

What is all included in the kit? and how many kits do I need for 25x25 garage?

Asked by: Tannerdelorey
Critic acid etching concentrate, metallic flake power, mesh roller (don't use it - it sheds and clumps up in the epoxy), and 1 pouch of polycuramine. Expect to use twice as many boxes as stated for square area coverage - the product is very transparent and if you don't lay it on thick enough or use two coats you can see right through it.

can application be at diffrent times? one side of garage one week, other side of garge following week?

Asked by: doc
I did it this way. I stopped at the expansion joints. Put blue tape down both times to keep it from crossing over and doubling up. Only the expansion joint itself ended up with 2 coats. Looks fine.

70 oz. Gunmetal Metallic Garage Floor Kit (Case of 2) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 196.

Rustoleum GunmetalMetal Floor Kit gave my 20 year old two car garage concrete floor a showroom finish. You can use this product to update the look of your garage floor, and it is an easy job , but time consuming. The first thing is to clean the floor throughly, a separate jug of cleaner is needed. Then mix the polycuramine coating and spread the coating which is a high gloss shimmering coating ready to drive on in 24 hours. Note: if you have large cracks or holes I would repair before coating application. The floor can be slippery, but a slip resistant coating is available.

Had horrible bubbles all over the next morning. Sanded the entire floor to get the bubbles out got replacement bags from rustoluem. It took 6 bags to redo the entire floor. Looks amazing after 2 coats. Still no exact explanation as to why all the bubbles, the concrete was not wet or hot or to new. Overall happy with 2 coats and they did send me 6 more bags for free.

I first began by renting a floor grinder with diamond blades to get my garage floor to bare concrete. I then applied the rustoleum moisture stop. After the floor dried I then had to use 8 boxes of the rocksolid metallic in order to cover my 2 car garage. It did look very good after I had completed which was good news initially. The floor scratches very easy and the scratches are easily visible even after cleaning. I also had 2 occasions where I dropped a screw driver and the nozzle for my hose and the floor chipped. Overall it was a waste of money and time since the look does not last and the floor is not durable so if you are looking for a garage floor coating where you will actually use your garage I would not recommend.

I have always wanted to treat my garage floor and finally got around to doing it. While this takes a lot of effort, the results are worth it in my opinion. First, you need to remove everything that sits on your garage floor. Next sweep/vacuum the floor. I found that a vacuum works best here as it gets up a lot of the dust particles. Then use a cleaner/de-greaser (such as Rust-Oleum 301243 Cleaner and Degreaser, 1 gallon. This is sold separately from the kit) to scrub the most dirty/greasy spots on the floor, using a brush attached to an extension pole (or on your hands and knees if desired). I used 2 gallons for cleaning my 2-car garage floor. Then hose it down completely (I used a pressure washer), ensuring that all the cleaner and dirt is gone. Then wait for the floor to dry. This can take a while depending on how humid it is outside (I happened to do my garage floor over a 3 day weekend right when it started raining out for 2 days straight). I recommend at this point taking a putty knife and scraping any area that has protrusions or bits of concrete sticking up. Now vacuum the entire floor again. Next you are ready to "etch" the floor. The kit provides you with an etching solution (powder) that you mix with 2 gallons of water and scrub using the same scrub brush as before. I recommend a plastic scrub brush. My floor took 4 packets (8 gallons) to completely etch. Once you have finished etching, you need to spray the floor off completely (I used a garden hose for this). Again, wait for the floor to completely dry. Finally, you are ready to apply the paint. The instructions are pretty clear, but basically you shake the two-part bag and then roll one part (A) into the other part (B) and it breaks the seal that was separating the two parts. You must then shake the package to completely mix to the two parts for about 2-3 minutes. You then cut a corner open and pour the thick material into a paint bucket. You can slowly fold the package towards the cut while pointing it into the bucket. Keep folding it over itself until you reach the cut corner. Then you can twist the package "tube" to get the final amount into the bucket. I found this to be the best method of getting nearly all of the thick mixture out of the thick plastic bag. Now pour in the coloring tint and stir the tint into the mixture for about 2 minutes using the provided stirring stick (you can also use a paddle on a drill but that is just one more thing you have to clean). You are now ready to paint. Start by painting the border/edges of your floor using a 3" brush (I recommend wearing knee protectors for this part). Then pour about 5' long x 4" wide swaths of the paint about a foot away from the border and using a roller and the provided roller cover, paint the floor in sections. Completely cover one section before moving on to the next. I used 4 packages (4 kits) to paint my floor. I then put large fans outside my garage to help dry the floor faster. I shut my garage doors over night and the next morning the floor was dry enough to walk on with no stickiness whatsoever. However, I noticed a number of spots that I had not covered quite as well as the rest of the floor, so I used a 5th package of the mixture and repainted over those spots. The end result worked out nicely (see photo). You should wait at least 1.5 to 2 days of low humid weather before you drive your car onto the garage floor. You are not going to be able to clean out the bucket, roller cover, or paintbrush so expect to discard those items when finished. Note that each kit contains a stirring stick and a roller cover, and I found that one roller cover was good for at least two kits worth of painting. I started with 6 kits so I have one left over that I can use in the future should any spots need touching up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rust- oleum Rock Solid Because its Metallic,if you have a 2 car garage you have to use double of that product. That means 4 boxes, witch it's very pricey. Then you have to use chips ,because it's gonna show everything on your floor if you leave it plain , and I been waiting forever for this paint . They don't have them in the store , and Home Depot order for me .Took almost 3 weeks .Do I recommended this product only if you handyman and have patience. I forgot toads that after painting, sprinkle with chips you have to paint again with clear coating. Go back in time, I wish to hire somebody for $2600 to do this for me .Counting the time , money , work and mess , my opinion I would hire somebody to do that

Applied it to the floor of a basement remodel job. The floor prep was the most time consuming as I chose to take a hand grinder vs renting an upright from HD. Next time I will rent as my time is worth more. Three of us did the whole job ~300sqft in about an hour with 2 mixing up the product and 1 applying it. We used a squeegee to help spread it out BEFORE using the roller......DO THIS!!

I found that the material is a lot harder to move around with a roller than the video showed. You really have to work the product for a while to cover the floor. Also, while they say each package will cover 100-125 sq. ft. I got less coverage than that. I started with 7 boxes to cover approx. 800 sq. feet and had to run in the middle of the process to get 3 additional boxes to finish the job. I wasn't putting it on very thick either. Over all I do like the finished look right now, but for the price of each package, a little more floor coating would've been nice. I also think using a squeegee to move the epoxy around may have been easier than the roller.

Concrete floor paint I am using this product on a somewhat damaged and patched garage floor which I have to grind off and patch, and all damages have been caused by MN winter salt. The concrete is VERY wavy, uneven, and in some places, as rough as sandpaper with exposed rocks. I have to move things, prep the floor, do the finish and let it dry, then move things back in sections. When I got first section application result with the first section I liked it and so am allowing it to continue throughout the garage. This kit has covered ALL the imperfections BEAUTIFULLY! I've found out that it's easy to use and the results have been awesome! This finish is AMAZING! I followed the directions carefully and did what I could to make the floor as smooth as possible before starting the process. The surface came out looking like the surface of a brand new, highly glossed, copper pot polished marbled bowling ball and it's actually quite pretty! I definitely recommend!
