Best idea ever!
I followed the directions and only needed one box to paint the sides of our basement pillar (two coats on each). We’ve had no issues with it aside from wall not being completely smooth so marker does get stuck in those spots but that was our bad for not handling the kidding/sanding better. Truly love this and would use again and again. Not sure what went wrong for those saying it doesn’t work..when you touch surface it should feel smooth and in photo you can see it’s shiny in the light.

    Waaaay Over Priced
Followed the instructions to a “T”. Even primed with Zinser 123, put on FOUR coats. You can still see the original material underneath. It looks awful. I would have done a 5th coat, but the directions said to use within one hour of mixing. Not impressed - would not recommend.

      Wow this stuff is terrible
I followed the directions, painted the wall. Next day I made a small smiley face with a dry-erase marker. I used a dry eraser.... and NOTHING happened... I mean NOTHING. It didn't smear, didn't fad away a bit... N-O-T-H-I-N-G. So, I used that white board spray. This kind of 'helped', but I had to use the eraser like a mad man.... and now there's a big ugly smudge on the wall.... absolute GARBADE.

Something is amiss here! Rust-Oleum Specialty Dry Erase Kit is a smooth, hard finish that creates a unique writable-erasable surface. As detailed on the label, allow the Dry Erase surface to cure for 3 days before applying any markings. A second coat can be applied to the surface, allow that to cure for 3 days and the Dry Erase will work perfectly.

Good thing nothing bad was written on it.
We prepped the wall put 4 coats on. We were so excited to have our own dry erase wall. Waited two days. Let our daughter write on in. Then spent an hour, not exaggerating cleaning off the markers. It is still not clean. Read somewhere it might be that pens are low odor but I don't remembered that being specified on the box. Any way we will not be writing on it again. Now we just have a big white square in our living room office. Disapointing

Oh no, this is not what we like to hear! Rust-Oleum Specialty Dry Erase Paint is a smooth, hard surface that creates a unique white writeable-erasable surface. Erase Paint must be allowed to fully cure before use, the instructions indicate to allow the coating to cure for 3 days before applying any markings. When applied heavily, as with 4 coats, the cure time will be longer. Give us a call at 800-481-4785 so we can hear more about your experience and work to make things right.

Some explaining is due on this. I used the product to paint a dry erase board in my office, just under 32 sq ft in size. The can is supposed to cover 50 sq ft. After using 3 cans, I got a surface that did not show any of the primer underneath. I didnt mind so much, it was still less expensive than a white board of the same size. However, one thing no one mentions is that unless your surface is as smooth as glass, the board is almost useless. Without a perfectly smooth surface, write erase pens get in the nook, crannies, dimples and other imperfections. Its takes a lot of work to remove the ink. After a lot of Windex and scrubbing, I still have ghost images of previous use (see photos). The product would have to be self leveling to overcome this issue, which probably wouldnt work well on a vertical wall. I finally covered it with a piece of white masonite.

This whiteboard paint worked as described! The tricky part was that after you mix it together, you have a limited timespan to use it, and I had to buy a second kit to put the recommended second coat on. My library circulation desk surface is smooth, white, shiny, and dry erase markers wipe right off! My post-it-note and doodlepad consumption is about to go way down! An old Formica coffee table from the faculty room is a collaboration and doodling table for my students.

I am a visual person, so, I need to draw almost everything a read for school and learning purposes (molecular biology, signaling pathways, etc.), so, I researched for many items before getting to this paint, which, BTW, was my brother's suggestions. I was hesitant, because there a lot of adhesive white boards, as well as way too expensive "pro" kits that promise a lot. Well long story short, I saw this one here, I read Katy's review and steps, and bought it. I wanted a big part of my basement's wall for this, and so I did. I used only 1 can, 3 layers and about 7x4. Man, I love this "board," if you can call it that. It's great, useful, and well, it was CHEAP! Follow Katy's instructions, and then, paint. You won't regret it. And for writing purposes I'm using EXPO markers, and they are great. NO lines or anything after use. I would recommend the EXPO white board care spray. This helps to keep your board SUPER clean. Great great choice.
