Questions & Answers

I plugged it into an extension cord that's plugged into an outlet. Then connected it to my lawnmower battery but none of the LED lights are on. What could be wrong?
ByOct 19, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The use of an extension cord is not recommended. If you must use an extension cord, follow these guidelines: • Pins on plug of extension cord must be the same number, size, and shape as those of plug on charger. • Ensure that the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. • Wire size must be large enough for the AC ampere rating of charger, as specified: Length of cord (feet) 25 50 100 150 AWG* size of cord 18 18 18 16 If the charger will not turn on when using an extension cord, first plug the charger into the outlet without the extension cord. If it works without the extension cord, check the power cord and extension cord for a loosely fitting plug. If the charger didn’t work even when plugged directly into the outlet without an extension cord, check to see if the outlet you are using is operating correctly. Look for an open fuse or circuit breaker supplying the AC outlet. If you are unable to correct the problem with these troubleshooting steps, please contact Schumacher customer service at 1-800-621-5485.

        Answer This Question

This charger can be used to recharge your Cub Cadet xt1 battery. Connect the charger correctly to the battery; you don’t have to choose the battery type. The LED CHARGING (yellow/ orange) should be lit, indicating that the charger is charging. When the battery is charged, the CHARGED/MAINTAINING (green) LED is lit.

So excited to have this under my workbench!
I've been looking for a small to medium size battery charger to keep at my cabin for quite a long time. I think this one fits the bill perfectly! It is more advanced than an old analog type battery charger. it recognizes polarity, 6 or 12 V, and automatically adjust the amperage. My favorite feature is the last one listed on the box. If you battery is fully charged, it will monitor the battery and add charge when necessary. Woo hoo. Can't wait!

A great balance of size, portability, and power
After getting caught with dead batteries multiple times in cars and lawn mowers I wanted to have something on hand next time to be able to charge them up to get them replaced. This unit is small enough to be portable and not take up a ton of space for something you might only use periodically. The controls are simple and intuitive. The leads make this unit easy to use. This is a great tool to add to my garage and worked well on my wife’s car to get it going again.

                  Fantastic battery charger and maintainer!
Obtained the Schumacher Electric Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt 2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection about 3 weeks ago. Packaging included a clip-style pigtail and an eye-terminal pigtail. I utilize the charger to maintain the charge level on the battery for my 1985.5 Nissan D21 SE-V6 4X4 King Cab pickup. As a collector vehicle it is only driven occasionally and as such, I need the charger to maintain the charge level of the battery. Work great!! Unit is very light weight.

                  GOOD SIZE AND LIGHT WEIGHT
The 8 Amp charger is light weight and semi- compact. It's fit and finish is good and is packed with some good safety features from reverse clamp indication, micro processor controlled for all season charging and automatic voltage detection for charging both 12 volt and 6 volt batteries found on older tractors and some equipment. Due to my lawnmowers age and occassional battery draw I needed a charger that could charge battery that is completely dead during spring/ summer months as well as able to maintain battery during late fall and winter months. This charger from Schumacher electric is small and light weight making it easy to move around and fits on side step of riding mower while connected to battery.

                  Good Charger
No frills about the charger except that it gets the job done. It doesn't have bells and whistles except to charge the battery. It switches automatically to the battery type being charged and goes into maintain mode when the battery is charged. Also has reverse hook-up protection. The charger is a lower price than a lot of other chargers which have options like testing the alternator and so forth. I can do that the old fashion way and save money in the process.

                  Yeah
I really needed this. My old one is getting a bit frayed on the wires that go one the battery posts. I was going to have to fix or replace them. Now I have a new one that does all the batteries (motorcycle and auto) automatically no switching the type battery to one or the other. And am so happy to find it at a great price. Nice and light too if that matters to you.

                  8A battery charger
Charger is fully automatic with a soft start. It is made of metal instead of plastic and is fully grounded. Charger will not work if terminal clamps are reversed. 24/7 all season charging, monitoring and maintaining charge on battery. This charger is good for motorcycles, jet skis, riding lawnmowers and four wheelers. It is lightweight and has a handle to carry it around.

                  Good basic battery charger
The Schumacher Electric Schumacher Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt 8-Amp/2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection is a good basic battery charger capable of handling both 6 volt and 12 volt batteries. When used to charge and maintain standard auto/truck or RV batteries it does a good job. It has detector to tell you if you placed clips on the wrong terminals. I was very disappointed that it lacked the ability to connect a pigtail connection for ease of charging the battery on my quad without having to partially disassemble the seat/tank to access the battery. If this unit had that feature I would give it 5 stars

                  Easy to Use
This charger is automatic which is good and bad. It sets the voltage and the amperage so you don’t make a mistake, BUT it doesn’t allow to to adjust these. That means you can’t do a quick charge by increasing the amperage. As such, I charged two cars where the battery was in good shape (easily started the car), it took four hours for the charger indicator light to turn green (signaling it was fully charged). On the second vehicle the volts measured 12.54 before charging. Four hours later it measured 12.57. My guess is because it automatically measures what to do, it chose to slowly trickle in electricity. Still it is simple to use and for some might be the right choice.

                  Great for maintaining your battery
I have a wheeled Schumacher SC1364 charger that can jump start a car/SUV. The only problem is it’s very big, weighs around 30 pounds and it isn’t practical for maintaining my car battery. Since my current Schumacher charger is easy to use and works without issue, I decided to get another Schumacher product for maintaining my battery. The SPR1627 charger/maintainer is small and weighs about 2 pounds. It is easy to use and fully automatic. I had to pull on the battery clamps cable to separate more of the combined wire so I could attach the negative clamp to an engine part while hooking up the positive clamp to the battery terminal. After that, I just plugged in the unit, and it started to charge right away. The front panel has three indicator lights with no buttons to press. The charger will not operate if clamps are reversed. The unit comes with a second option for connecting your charger to your battery. Schumacher has included a ring connectors cable that can be attached to the battery terminals for quickly attaching the charger. The charging time is slow since this is only a 2-Amp charger. If your battery is so drained that the starter just clicks, be prepared to charge the battery overnight. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this charger. For the price, I don’t think you can go wrong with this charger/maintainer. I did notice this particular product was not listed on the Schumacher website so I am guessing it is a Home Depot exclusive product.
