Answer This Question
A:Â Hello John!
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. In looking through the information for the fence pickets, we are seeing the available heights are 4ft, 6ft, and 8ft. For 5ft exactly, we would recommend partnering with your local Home Depot store to see if they can be special ordered.
We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

Answer This Question
Q:I read in a Q/A blog that the pickets will shrink as they dry. Specifically, they will shrink about 1/4" in width. This would translate to about 3.2" over the length (72") of the pickets!
Wouldn't this necessitate to dry them before mounting them?

Answer This Question
A:Â Allowing the wood to dry is always recommended, however it would take approximately 90 days in warm weather for them to completely dry out. Most people do not want to wait that long to erect their fence.

I would buy these again. I purchased a full unit (416 pcs.) of these fence boards and had them delivered. This is green lumber and it does shrink slightly. But be sure and compensate by butting the boards together to minimize the gaps between them once they dry or, by letting them dry before using. After they were nailed-up and dried out, the boards measured an average of 5-1/4". Approximately 10 of the boards were unusable due to excessive warping or other major defects. This is also not unusual. However, the 5% discount for purchasing a full unit more than compensated for the culls. And I would rather have a small amount of rejects than pick through 400+ boards at the store. Creates an attractive fence.

A very good fence picket. I use these for building planters and they are very easy to work. After squaring them up the 5/8 in. thickness makes it much easier to bevel the edges for a 6 sided hexagon planter, 8 sided polygon planter & 16 sided Hexadecagon planter. I use these for a lot of projects for my landscaping where I do not want the wood to rot. I find that a bit of sanding or running them through a thickness planner will give you very nice results on the finished project. If you are using these for a fence picket you will want to make sure you have them screwed in solid as they do tend to warp once they dry out completely.

Good piece of lumber. However, it looks stained in your online ad, when it is just raw wood.
