Not much less and will not look as good nor will the material be at or above the same quality. I had quotes before doing it myself and my fence is so better than my neighbors new fence after just 6 months. Cost difference of $560 on the project and he’ll have to replace sooner. Definitely worth the investment!
Shaw, If you want to make a 6ft high x 12ft wide gate, I don't see why these panels couldn't be used. The panels are assembled by you when delivered. They can be modified most easily across the width . Height is harder to modify because of the rabitted channels built into the panel edges and the framework surrounding them. I made the 6ft width into 5 ft wide, but it was bit of a pain to center and match everything vertically. Used as swing gate panels I assume you know that you will have to retro fit all the necessary supports and cross pieces that will be needed to construct a working gate. But are they usable for that...yep.
Yes
You would need an Everbuilt anti sag gate kit to hold up the bottom... these panels come in a box and look great, but need support on both sides. Home Depot sell the kit. I bought the actual gates, they sagged as well. I used this kit to fix the issue.
I cut mine smaller.... each panel comes in a box... when they were delivered to my house, I thought it was the wrong stuff... the instructions are good... you need to be good with a saw....there is a lot of assembly required.. as long as you know your dimensions first, you can cut the horizontal pieces to fit the inside tongue and groove. Then screw it all together. I would never buy the matching gate... it sags after a year... I had to buy corner cables to help with support and keep tension do the gate would not drag on ground.
No, I wouldn't cut it. Order correct size. Or make your own panel.
These are not modifiable panels.
Keep in mind that these panels come in kit form (pieces of pre-cut lumber) that the customer assembles into the actual panel. With basic carpentry skills, it is not difficult to modify and assemble the kits into different widths and heights of the panels.
Unless something has changed I think the answer is no. We got creative and unscrewed the ends to cut equal amounts off then put it back together for the same reason. It worked. Good luck!
read my review. you have to set your posts exactly 6 ft apart. that is, the panel will 72 inches wide if it fits together correctly. get PT 4x4 8ft posts and set them 2ft in the ground with concrete.
Sorry, but the method and hardware to attach the fence panels to the fence posts depends on the design of the finished fence. The design of your finished fence and the style of the posts you plan to use can call for different hardware and different methods of attaching the panels. Home Depot cannot hope to think of all of the different designs.
Possible: Yes; Recommended: No. You could attempt to assemble a modified by using either 10 ft. or 12 ft. 2x4's for the horizontal framing pieces. However, unless the modifications were properly engineered, the panel could begin to slowly pull apart and collapse. In addition, the weight of the modified panel would make it very difficult to handle. You could hire a fence contractor to engineer and assemble the modified panels and then assemble the completed panels into the fence, but that could increase the cost of the completed fence substantially.
Yes, it is possible to connect two panels together.
Yes. They are made to connect. But note this fence requires more labor then traditional panel fence
I put 4x4 posts into the ground and attach to those. Kits will not allow you to attach in a way that you have a double panel, unless you just screw them together. I would worry about flex at that point.
The cool thing about these panels are they are sent in a box and you have to assemble them completely. You can cut the vertical pieces to achieve your height and the horizontal to get your width. You need to be good with a saw, and be able to screw the parts together.
These fence panel kits are only sold in the 6 ft. x 6 ft. size listed. However, since the panels are sold in kit form (the panel comes as pre cut lumber that the purchaser is required to assemble) it would not be that difficult to cut the vertical boards to assemble the panels in 4 ft. and 6 ft. heights.
I bought several sections to use to make an outdoor shower on Cape Cod. It has been up for over a year and everything remained straight and true. In assembling it, I used a few more screws than were provided, and also a bit of construction adhesive.
Think that depends on how well you attach it to your post. Still adding to ours but 10’ posts sunk down 40”. We used (3) 4” screws to mate panel to post and so far no issues. Coming up on 1 year anniversary of install. Slight separation between T&G slats but nothing major.
We only used one panel but it has weathered well and seems to be exactly as installed after two summers and winters. Good luck!
I hope not... the fence has been installed for almost 8 months now through the snow and cold and has not warped or shrunk.... it has faded though.
We have had the fence for approx 1 year and the size has not changed and there has not been any warpage. The cedar is an excellent fence material. The instructions and quality of the cuts, size accuracy are all very good and well done. However, It is not a heavy duty fence and I think the would is approx 1/4" thick. . Great privacy fence
I had the fence installed last spring and I have not experienced any abnormal shrinking or bending. To date we are pleased!
