Questions & Answers

Are you kidding me?? $127.00 AND you have to put it together yourself? To do an average yard will cost thousands - you could hire someone to build you a fence for less.

Answer This Question

Not much less and will not look as good nor will the material be at or above the same quality. I had quotes before doing it myself and my fence is so better than my neighbors new fence after just 6 months. Cost difference of $560 on the project and he’ll have to replace sooner. Definitely worth the investment!

could two be used to make a swing gate

    Answer This Question

Shaw, If you want to make a 6ft high x 12ft wide gate, I don't see why these panels couldn't be used. The panels are assembled by you when delivered. They can be modified most easily across the width . Height is harder to modify because of the rabitted channels built into the panel edges and the framework surrounding them. I made the 6ft width into 5 ft wide, but it was bit of a pain to center and match everything vertically. Used as swing gate panels I assume you know that you will have to retro fit all the necessary supports and cross pieces that will be needed to construct a working gate. But are they usable for that...yep.

You would need an Everbuilt anti sag gate kit to hold up the bottom... these panels come in a box and look great, but need support on both sides. Home Depot sell the kit. I bought the actual gates, they sagged as well. I used this kit to fix the issue.

        Answer This Question

I cut mine smaller.... each panel comes in a box... when they were delivered to my house, I thought it was the wrong stuff... the instructions are good... you need to be good with a saw....there is a lot of assembly required.. as long as you know your dimensions first, you can cut the horizontal pieces to fit the inside tongue and groove. Then screw it all together. I would never buy the matching gate... it sags after a year... I had to buy corner cables to help with support and keep tension do the gate would not drag on ground.

No, I wouldn't cut it. Order correct size. Or make your own panel.

Keep in mind that these panels come in kit form (pieces of pre-cut lumber) that the customer assembles into the actual panel. With basic carpentry skills, it is not difficult to modify and assemble the kits into different widths and heights of the panels.

Unless something has changed I think the answer is no. We got creative and unscrewed the ends to cut equal amounts off then put it back together for the same reason. It worked. Good luck!

read my review. you have to set your posts exactly 6 ft apart. that is, the panel will 72 inches wide if it fits together correctly. get PT 4x4 8ft posts and set them 2ft in the ground with concrete.

Sorry, but the method and hardware to attach the fence panels to the fence posts depends on the design of the finished fence. The design of your finished fence and the style of the posts you plan to use can call for different hardware and different methods of attaching the panels. Home Depot cannot hope to think of all of the different designs.

Possible: Yes; Recommended: No. You could attempt to assemble a modified by using either 10 ft. or 12 ft. 2x4's for the horizontal framing pieces. However, unless the modifications were properly engineered, the panel could begin to slowly pull apart and collapse. In addition, the weight of the modified panel would make it very difficult to handle. You could hire a fence contractor to engineer and assemble the modified panels and then assemble the completed panels into the fence, but that could increase the cost of the completed fence substantially.

I put 4x4 posts into the ground and attach to those. Kits will not allow you to attach in a way that you have a double panel, unless you just screw them together. I would worry about flex at that point.

The cool thing about these panels are they are sent in a box and you have to assemble them completely. You can cut the vertical pieces to achieve your height and the horizontal to get your width. You need to be good with a saw, and be able to screw the parts together.

These fence panel kits are only sold in the 6 ft. x 6 ft. size listed. However, since the panels are sold in kit form (the panel comes as pre cut lumber that the purchaser is required to assemble) it would not be that difficult to cut the vertical boards to assemble the panels in 4 ft. and 6 ft. heights.

I bought several sections to use to make an outdoor shower on Cape Cod. It has been up for over a year and everything remained straight and true. In assembling it, I used a few more screws than were provided, and also a bit of construction adhesive.

Think that depends on how well you attach it to your post. Still adding to ours but 10’ posts sunk down 40”. We used (3) 4” screws to mate panel to post and so far no issues. Coming up on 1 year anniversary of install. Slight separation between T&G slats but nothing major.

We have had the fence for approx 1 year and the size has not changed and there has not been any warpage. The cedar is an excellent fence material. The instructions and quality of the cuts, size accuracy are all very good and well done. However, It is not a heavy duty fence and I think the would is approx 1/4" thick. . Great privacy fence

I love how this fence looks. We sealed it and it maintains the cedar color. But it's incredibly flimsy. Our next door neighbors bumped the fence with a board and the panels popped out. Twice. Also as the fence warps the panels can fall apart, which happen to another one of our panels. If a child tried to punch through the wood, i'm pretty sure they could do it. It's like balsa wood. But like it said, it looks good at least.

Dont buy this product unless you love frustration, have ample wood working tools and time to correct factory errors. Company president does, in fact, provide his personal Cell # on the instruction sheet, but offers nothing more than apologies for the errors and lack of attention to detail for his product. I asked that a properly constructed kit be shipped in exchange for the second kit I have not yet attempted to construct and he stated that was not possible. I fully expect to find the same issues with it as I found with the first, photos attached. I have read reviews from a year ago which appear to correspond to the same issue I have had, thus, there seems no honest effort to perfect the product. Video says 20 minutes to complete....took me several hours to fix factory-created issues. At minimum, the president owns me a bar of soap to wash out my mouth after uttering myriad expletives when assembling this pile of poorly produced parts.

just finished putting up the seventh panel in my 12 panel privacy fence. I put the first five panels up as described in the video and began to realize that pre-assembling the panels is a bad idea. Here is why - the product is poorly designed and uses very poor quality and flimsy wood. Most of the solid pieces are warped to some extent, some are very warped. The panels are also cheaply assembled and often have come apart during shipping. All of this can result in a less than square panel which is not stable or strong at all even after adding additional fasteners and support. I am already committed to this product so will finish the fence anyway even given the problems. Here is what I suggest: 1. find a better more sturdy and better engineered product. 2. If you decide that you want to use this one, then set the posts first. Then, install a treated stud horizontally as a base support. 3. Build the panels from bottom to top in reverse order to the suggestions of the video. 4. Be aware that you will have to make modifications to each panel. Don't attempt it without a table saw and a chop saw and a radial arm saw. Have plenty of extra 2x4s and 2x2's readily available. 5. On 4x4 posts, you will have room to flush fit extra 2x4 horizontal supports and I suggest that you use them. So far, it looks great and with the extra materials and effort, I think it will last a long time. If you are casual weekend warrior with limited wood working skills and lack the proper equipment, I suggest you pass on this.

Signature Development’s fast and friendly customer support cannot be beat! I picked up the kit on a Friday and started the assembly the following Monday. One of the panels had an un-repairable crack. A quick phone call and a text message (with a photo of the panel)to the president, Eric Knudsen, is all it took. I received the replacement panel on Saturday and it was excellent. I read the reviews prior to purchasing the kit and agree that the instructions could use a little improvement. However, when combined with the video, the kit is easy to assemble. The only comment I have about the video is that mortises and tendons should be called by their names. I work with wood and had to watch the video a couple of times to understand what the presenter was saying. Otherwise the video WAS VERY HELPFULL.

I have just ordered another one after installing two on my property at different locations (opposite ends of a deck) for a privacy screen. I decided to extend one end and since they look the same from both sides my HOA is fine with it. I do wish it came in 8 foot lengths. Although it is not real strong as these fence panels go so maybe not. They need a solid in concrete 4X4 so I advise not to use the concrete blocks with the bracket to hold 4x4 even if you plan to sink it below ground. I think the whole thing would blow over without much wind. Just my opinion. I placed one over a retaining wall and as an FYI I set it on top of a six foot 4x4 because I had one left over from another project. I am going to do the same for the third one because even though it is 'only' six feet the posts alone through the soft wood would be best set on top of a level surface. My landscape isn't exactly level and sitting on dirt might eventually rot the bottom panel. So tweak your install and it would get a Good Plus. I will probably stain it at some point.
