Product Overview

  • Reinforces 90-degree connections; stronger than nails or screws
  • Removes the guesswork for making perfectly square connections
  • Perfect for new projects or repairs
Not only do angles make joints stronger, they also provide more consistent, straight corners. Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of angles in various sizes and thicknesses to handle light-duty jobs or projects where a structural connection is needed. Some can be bent (skewed) to match the project. For outdoor projects or those where moisture is present, use our ZMAX zinc-coated connectors, which provide extra resistance against corrosion (look for a "Z" at the end of the model number).
  • Versatile connector for various 90° connections and home repair projects
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening alone
  • Help ensure joints are consistently straight and strong
  • The A35’s exclusive bend slot allows accurate bends to attach wood in a variety of configurations
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • Galvanized (G90) for extra corrosion resistance
  • Install with 8d x 1-1/2 in. nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

Would a 4" table vice and hand pressure be enough to bend the metal as shown in the HD product image? If not, what would be required to do so?

These don't match the photo. They are missing a bend where they attach to the sill plate. Is that something I have to do when installing? Bend them? Seems silly.
Asked by: Janet
You make that bend with duck bill clamp pliers, or hammer. packaging is easy when not bent and each installation would be different . aLeft hand bend or right hand bend. adjust to what you need by bending them on site.

I'm using these to secure garage ceiling joists to the rim joist. Is there a particular reason why I should use nails and not screws? Thanks.
Asked by: eelneck
The A35 is rated with either 8dx1 1/2" nails or the SD9112 structural connector screw. In some loading conditions the nail capacity is higher and in others the screw capacity is higher; please see our website for details. It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify for the fastener based on the specific application and demand load to be resisted. Thank you!

Can you use A35 on top of wall attach to eave block and slightly bend to fit perfect

Inspector is deniying because of the bend. But this is a common practice.
Asked by: Ahc6969
Though it may be common practice, we can only support installations of our products as they were designed/rated. Altered installations would need to be evaluated/approved by the Engineer of Record. Thank you!

Structural engineer called for this A35 to connect 4x4 rim joist to a 4x8 beam for a balcony. Extremely strong when used with the correct screw. In our case, the 1/4"x 3" simpson sds screws were used and it passed inspection on the spot.

I had some stairs to the basement where the stringers were not properly attached to the wall or the header. I used this framing angle to reinforce the treads, risers and stringers. They were plenty heavy duty enough. Anything more would have been overkill. Now my stairs don't bounce!

The bendable ends make it work for a variety of applications. It takes 12 screws per angle - seems to be a bit too much. Besides, it is recommended to use Simpson Strong Tie #9 x 1-1/2 hex screws. However those snap even though the box says Made in USA (I had 7 broken for a box of 100 even with a hand- not a power tool). The holes in the angle are small - there is no way to screw a new screw into the same hole with a broken one. You have to take all 11 out or drill an extra hole next to the plugged one.
