Strong decks bring beauty and entertaining space to your outdoor living area
Building a safe, strong deck starts with the proper connectors and fasteners
Installing corrosion-resistant connectors and fasteners helps extend the life of your deck
Strong-Drive® SDWH Timber-Hex HDG screw delivers high-strength, wood-to-wood connectivity, such as deck ledger applications
Don’t take chances with guardrail connections. DTT2Z deck tension ties fasten guardrails to deck framing.
Install DTT1Z as a tension tie to meet building codes and eliminate the need to access to the floor joists inside the home
LSCZ adjustable stair-stringer connector offers a concealed connection between the stair stringer and the carrying header or rim board
Provides bearing and uplift resistance
Ideal for preventing lateral movement of joists
The only screw approved with Simpson Strong-Tie connectors
LCEZ end post caps provide a post-to-beam connection in new or retrofit deck applications
Features a 1 in. standoff to resist wood decay
Deck-Drive DWP stainless-steel fasteners are recommended for higher-exposure environments or applications
The ABU66Z has the Z-MAX finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection and can be used with treated wood in many applications. Please see the Corrosion information at the following link to determine the recommend finish based on the treated wood being used and the environment where it is being installed: https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion. Thank you!
Have you installed ABU66Z with a square washer that was supplied with the base and round washer that was supplied with Grip-Rite anchor bolt? If so, that may be the problem. Do not use the round washer - just the square thick washer and nut. Regards.
Is the post supported at the top? If so, the post base is probably adequate. If the post is free standing, definitely not.
The ABU66Z anchors to the concrete with a 5/8" diameter anchor; it is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the anchor bolt type, length and embedment. There isn't enough information provided, but please feel free to call our Engineering Support Department (800-999-5099) with further details and while we cannot specify, they can direct you to anchorage options. Thank you!
Yes, these are designed for use w/ 1/2" anchor bolts. Be very precise on how much bolt protrudes so you don't have to trim them - thickness of bracket, washer, lock washer, nut & a thread or two. Built a cabin resting on 6x6's notched to hold double 2x6 carrying beams. Rock solid!
I didn't use nails, I used 1/2 inch bolts, 13 thread and nuts. I drilled through those two holes in the Simpson Strong-Tie (1/2 inch) and secured it with two bolts.
Actually both...the base portion of the ABU66Z is 12 gauge and the strap portion is 10 gauge. Thank you!
Yes would be my answer... I drilled a hole with a hammer drill, put in some cement specific epoxy in the hole, dropped a stainless steel bolt in, and allowed to cure. Waited for the following weekend to put up a huge pergola, and it’s been solid ever since... I hope that helps
No, but it can be installed using bolts, see Simpson Specifications
The ABU66Z has not been evaluated with the Outdoor Accents washer and screw. We can only support the installation of the ABU66Z with the specified fasteners (a quantity of 12 - 16d common nails OR 2 - 1/2" diameter machine bolts to the post; 5/8" diameter anchor to the concrete). Thank you!
